Well, I did my part to help; called Lego and told them it was confusing to Star Wars fans that they keep the DS in production, since the real one blew up decades ago. As a result, I trust it will be EOL shortly.5 points

I like the prospects of this set going forward. It's not the piece count or even a special minifigure. It has that "X" factor. LEGO could have easily put these two minifigures in a polybag, yet they chose to make a nice box and booklet. Very collectible.3 points

Lowers the bar for the rest of us doesn't it. I will sell something and people will be so shocked that it matches the description and was shipped fast and packaged correctly that they will think I am some ancient deity who has taken the form of a Lego reseller. Gozer the Gozarian?3 points

this winter theme (like the building modular one) is a "layup" and i have never have said lego investing is easy. seriously folks. the CAGR for each set is amazing especially during the 1st year of retirement. is this set my fav? not eve close but completests will still buy them as will any holiday , snow, carnival, etc... fan. plus they usually only have a 2-3 retail life so making money is faster than investing in other themes.2 points

Sir...you don't know jack. The Winter Village sets on average have around a 30% CAGR. That's pretty impressive. PS: Please refrain from calling other members, especially Mods, a jack off. Thanks.2 points

I'm well aware of what it means. Saying dumb things to get a rise out of people. It's also my job here to respond to things said and people that make this site more cluttered with nonsense than it needs to be. Your name seems to pop up for the latter quite a bit. Also, I won't forget it. You'd never call me a jack off to my face, I guarantee it.2 points

Good day everyone! Just 2 weeks ago, I stumbled on a pretty deal on a 10221 Super Star Destroyer set and immediately bought it. Guess it was the start of my journey from the wilderness from which I was lost to for the past 25 years! Damn corporate rat race! When I was a kid in the 80s (yes yes, I am that old), I would wait eagerly for my Dad to return home from his overseas trips as he would buy me lego sets to play with. Well, as time went by, I lost touch with Lego. I have always walked past the Lego stores and ohh and ahh at the huge Star Wars sets on display but I didn't have the financial means to get any. Fast forward to 2014, now in my mid 30s, I am starting to have a bit of disposable income to enjoy myself and why not Lego! Since I bit the bullet 2 weeks ago on the 10221 SSD, I think I have rekindled my love for Lego & Star Wars and am now on my furious collecting spree! Wife & wallet are groaning in protest now. After searching the Internet and forums, I have narrowed my potential collection to Star Wars (OT) and hopefully UCS sets, amongst other OT Star Wars sets... so currently to date, I have collected in 2 weeks: 10215: Obi-Wan Starfighter 10221: SSD 10227: B-Wing 10198: Rebel Blockade Runner 75059: Sandcrawler (Collecting this weekend) Some Microfighters Some smaller Star Wars sets And my 1st buy, the SSD is still unopened... the nightmare of building and finding a place for a 1.24m long Lego set can be quite a challenge! Finding older UCS sets is financially crippling!! And I can't wait for the new 75060 to come in!! Oh the choices! The prices of the older UCS... Dilemma dilemma! Thanks to everyone who reads this post and I hope to join in more discussions! Cheerio! PS: May I please know what is TBMF? I encounter this term quite often whilst looking at eBay etc... Thanks!1 point

That is always possible. LEGO's notation did say to look for this set in the B&M LEGO stores, not online.1 point

Go back to the beginning of this thread and read my comments. Basically I stated that it was my impression that LEGO did not want to make this set in the first place and outside pressures made them do so. I don't think this was a big money maker for them and that it was aimed at a very small target audience, so why produce a ton of sets? It just so happens they got some publicity from the set, but it probably didn't change their production plans, but any publicity is good publicity. Honestly, most resellers didn't pay attention to this set. They were busy buying Exo Suits. When LEGO changed their purchase limit to one, I knew it would be a hard set to buy and valuable on the secondary market, so I bought a bunch at $30 on eBay.1 point

You misread.....he offered to buy all of them and pseudoty offered 10.1 point

That's why pseudoty was asking. If many sellers are being asked for their entire stock of RI, then someone could be trying to corner the market. Especially with "all or nothing" kind of approach1 point

As an investor, I try to follow the rule: "Original Trilogy, or forget it." But as a dad, these new sets look interesting. I've seen some wide criticsim of this new addition to the "expanded universe" lately. Adult fans hate that Disney is going to make a "kiddie-show" out of their religion. My 6-yr-old (and I) love the six movies. We love the Lego Yoda Chronicles. We watch the animated Clone Wars, but many episodes are just boring - too much politics and chit-chat, not enough monsters and light sabre fights. So now we're seeing the 3 to 5 minute trailers for the Rebels series coming out, and we can't wait to see the show. The character Zeb is very likeable, and pounds on stormtroopers. The ship looks cool. The new astro-mech "Chopper" seems to have more personality than R2-D2. I think the show could be a big hit with kids. I was lucky enough to find a smashed-box 75053 Ghost at my Toys R Us - got it for about US$35 after coupons (my first ever real bargain). My son is going to love it. But I'm looking for another at a discount - just to have a mint "first-of-series" set to hang on to. If the show takes off, it might be worth something some day. And if they're scarce at Christmas... that's fine too.1 point

I'm pretty sure the mini VW bus was more the exception than the rule. In my experience these promotional items don't appreciate greatly over time and I find it's best to sell them while they're hot. I like to make my own discounts on exclusive sets by doing this rather than holding onto them for investment purposes. Maybe somebody else has better data to share about these promotional items as investments.1 point

Volksmagen bus is a different story, first of all its a licensed set... and its a Volksmagen bus.... However the spaceman is going to keep its value at least through xmas VOLKSMAGEN!!1 point

The Lego LotR theme has an identity problem. First, the movies are PG-13 so Lego's target audience is technically too young to even watch them. Yet, the sets are definitely designed with kid's and playability in mind. So, you have an entire theme that AFOLs should be crazy into, but it falls flat because of those design issues. Lego should have probably slapped a 16+ age label on this entire theme and designed fewer, but more complicated sets. I agree. Down the road, if someone is going to get just one LotR/Hobbit set, this one is probably it (even over Orthanc). It's well designed, has some nice building techniques, instantly recognizable, and the details cover both LotR and The Hobbit. It has a small footprint so it's easy to display.1 point

Yep, they both have the same box size, larger than their predecessors. I imagine Santa's shop will have a smaller box than 10235 and 10229. I don't mind if the WV sets are $100, but the Cottage was the only one that felt like you were getting your money's worth. Also why I have more Cottages than Markets in my inventory.1 point

Just consider this as you are getting your money's worth in travel for the package. It's like golf, not fun to go right down they fairway, check out what's in the woods and the sand traps if you're paying for the round. As for the the routing, yes, this happens way more than it should and I've seen it many times with my packages. It always makes it to its destination, eventually.1 point

The destination is whatever you put on your shipping label. The mis-direction doesn't change the destination attached to that tracking number.1 point

Sorting center error, happens quite often. It'll usually get back to where it belongs, but sometimes with a long delay that you'll have to deal with with your buyer and your selling venue. Edited to add: use the tracking update service at usps.com to get email updates of where the package is each step along the way from here on out. If the buyer contacts you about the delay, share those updates with him, it often defuses them a bit when they can see the progress and know you're taking it seriously and keeping track of it, too.1 point

From what I've learned is that many people are jealous. So if they see you sell well, even after a few days, they will report you. So you will be (temporarely) out of business. To me that is the only logic explanation on this. Or Amazon went to the same banning course as lego and just bans people randomly. And the real counterfeiters go free.1 point

Well, I'm the one who suggested this, and it's just a theory, but... the new SD is nearly identical to the first SD playset, and retails for 30% more. Ditto for the new AT-AT, and we've jumped 10% on that. The new B-Wing has a similar piece count to the first (non-UCS) B-Wing, and retails for almost 50% more, the point being that Lego likes to raise prices. However, they don't raise prices on existing sets (with the exception of AS). I do know that 10188, at the same MSRP as 10221, weighs several pounds more. It also has a better price/weight ratio (generally more useful than price/piece; otherwise sets with lots of small pieces appear to offer awesome values) than any exclusive set released in the last half decade or so except for the modular buildings. I'm willing to bet a Chima Speedorz Starter Set (someone please take me up on this; I have way too many) that the Classic Collection has a worse price/weight ratio than 10188. Winner pays shipping, of course, and reserves the right to cancel the bet altogether. Honestly, what are these things good for? They bore children and move too fast to make useful cat toys...1 point

They will either both be back, or neither will be. Or one will be back and one will not. Or both will be back briefly and then discontinued again. Or Exo will be and not RI or vice versa. There will either be one or more production runs of both, either, neither or no more runs of one or the other or both. It is likely that I will buy between 0 and 100 more of both. Prices will likely remain the same for RI, increase if supply is low, or decrease upon multiple more runs. For Exo the outlook looks the same. Mark my words, put it in the bank. My Lego manager insider told me, his wife plays bridge with the wife of a guy who works on the board of directors of some place that knows the CEO.1 point
