Was browsing the Lego store today and had to do a double-take when I saw a Fire Brigade on the shelf. Needless to say, I grabbed it immediately and asked one of the employees how this was still there and he said someone returned it and that they apparently don't look on ebay. The box had very slight creasing, but the seals looked intact. So I found a new condition retired set for msrp, got VIP points for it, and a Mini Cooper poly bag. I'd call that a win.13 points

I understand what you're trying to say, but I don't believe you're going to get a lot of sympathy here. If you are a serious investor, then you have to play seriously. So, you have to learn how to get a hold of things. You have to learn the tricks of obtaining the product that you want. And, you don't get to cry when you miss out. What you have to learn is that there's always "something else." Didn't get to jump on this, then invest the money elsewhere. Try to get a GE or SSD before they are completely gone. Don't have time to jump on those when they randomly pop up? Then you should look for something else. There's tons of advice on this site. I live in SoCal. Do you know how hard it is for me to jump on the Target or Walmart clearance sales? They're non-existent here. But those of us in SoCal don't cry about it - we just move on to the next thing. If you're here because you're a collector only, and you're only trying to get one for yourself; I'm sorry, but you've walked in the wolf's den. You're going to get great info, but you're also going to be exposed to those that are in is for the money. So, again, you're just going to have to listen, get the info, and get in while you can. I'm not saying this to be mean, just saying this to be realistic. There are tons of ways to get in on things, if you take the time to figure it out.8 points

Hello BrickPickers... With the increased site traffic and the new Brick Classifieds forum launching soon, we have asked jaisonline and Bold-Arrow to be moderators. They have graciously accepted. Jeff is finishing up the Brick Classifieds and it looks and works great(He showed me this morning). We will be adding a few more moderators once the Brick Classifieds site and forum go live, preferably members that will be active on the Brick Classifieds and will be able to instruct others on how to use the Brick Classifieds and inform new users about the rules and regulations. More on that later... Ed Mack5 points

I'm not a real investor, I just love this site for helping me find deals for my personal collection. So I went big today amd bought a pet shop, palace cinema and Parisian restaurant. Because of this site, I applied for the TRU card a few weeks ago to take advantage of the 25% coupon and 10% Thursdays. I was just playing around and was surprised to see that the 15% off code I got with the credit card worked on the exclusive lego sets at TRU.com. So between that code, the 25% off staple gift cards and then the current 15% off twosmiles gift cards! I got these for a little over 30% off. A huge chunk of my wants in one blow!3 points

Someone like myself? What is that supposed to mean? I set up alerts it's not hard. It was available the entire day on LEGO Shop at Home. If you want to cry about it do it somewhere else. This whole site is based on opportune buying and reselling.2 points

Yes, plenty of opportunities for someone like yourself. Most people can't watch retailer sites like a hawk or schedule their lives around planned LEGO purchases.2 points

I went garage sailing for lego for the first time ever. Found none but bought a real 1972 USPS Scale to weigh my sets.2 points

Those who don't think this set will do well may not be thinking of the potential crowd that may be buying this set down the road. It is a set of 3 different professions. And would be great as a graduation present for college instead of getting the typical money or jewelry. Being a 22 year old female, who just graduated from university, I would have loved to receive this set. It is small enough that it doesn't take up a lot of space. Also, when little girls grow up to be anthropologists or chemists or astrophysicists they will be making enough money to be able to buy this set at a higher cost in x amount of years. Just my 2 cents. There are too many males here thinking Star Wars are the only good sets.2 points

Hey guys, First let me thank everyone for all the amazing deals, tips and information. This hobby is very addicting and I've learned a lot in a very short amount of time. I've been accumulating sets rapidly since the Fall of 2013. I have shelving dedicated to my collection in the basement but it's starting to spill over. My wife recently decided she wants to organize and finish the basement. I'm on board with this but it presents a huge problem. I need to consolidate my collection and my timeline to beginning selling is now accelerated. I was originally planning to hold out until Christmas of 2015 before selling anything. Most of the veterans recommend selling a few sets before getting into this too deep. I guess that time is now for me. I'm looking for some advice on selling and I have a few questions. 1) When you run out of room, what do you typically do? Stop buying altogether? Sell your losers or marginal gainers? Dump inventory at a loss? Take a break for 6 months and just build? 2) Tax advice: most of my sets were purchased in the past twelve months. I don't want to risk anything with the IRS. Should I simply contact a tax accountant to get my record keeping up to par? I have my receipts and have been tracking purchases since day one but I have no clue how to properly calculate profit or capital gains once things start to sell. 3) Shipping: I think everyone uses USPS. I probably need to buy a scale. I keep as many boxes and shipping materials as I can. Do you invest in a label maker too? 4) What should I sell? I have some sets that have already appreciated. I have other sets that I'm not too optimistic about. Here are some highlights of my collection. All set quantities (in parenthesis) are estimates. Potential Profit: Jabba's Palace (10) Constitution Train Chase (10) MHC Cannon (10) Helms Deep (2) Two Face Chase (3) Martian Manhunter (5) Darth Revan (5) Mirkwood Elf Guard Poly (20) Losers or sets I don't see appreciating any time soon: Attack of the Wargs (10) Vampyre Castle (4) Sail Barge (5) Republic Gunship (5) Millennium Falcon (4) I also have some LOTR / Hobbit that I'm not sure about: Unexpected Gathering (10) Black Gate (4) Mines Moria (2) Goblin King (1) Barrel Escape (8 ) Any obvious sets to dump at this point? I'm not emotionally tied to most of these. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm basically looking to free up some shelving space, regain some capital for the holiday season, and get some practice selling. Thanks in advance for your input!1 point

I mean thats only somewhat true. If its gone and hits 200$ you left a lot of money on the table. And if you sell now and they go way down you deal with returns, etc. Also the fact that if you continually short yourself money by selling things too early, you are not going to be able to adapt when lego becomes not the biggest investment around.1 point

Welcome! I got into Lego pretty heavily this year and started with some Monster Fighters as well--lots of great advice on this site whether you're looking to collect, invest, or both. Spending time reading through the various threads will really pay off down the road.1 point

Call me an old man but I don't understand what this means I see you use it in a lot of your posts but usually in the context of something like: Did your dog die last night? :D1 point

Welcome. I'm in *** as well. I rehab and resell sets also. It's a learning process. You will have to do it a few times to get the hang of it. The basic strategy is to buy low on eBay, complete the sets via Bricklink or Brick Owl, and resell. The main thing to look for when buying incomplete sets is to make sure the sets have all the minifigs. These can be expensive to replace. You can also look the set up on Bricklink to see if the set has any rare and expensive pieces that might be missing. You will be surprised. Some pieces are expensive to replace and it can take several orders to complete a set and the shipping cost adds up. This can be very lucrative but just be careful what you buy and make sure it's a desirable set that will sell easily. Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker1 point

Lot 1, 2nd picture: I think you may have the skull part of the 7093 Skeleton Tower. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7093-1 Also, there are a number of pieces (sail and ship's bow most prominently) from 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7029-1 You also have a wing from 8017 Vader's Tie Fighter. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=8017-1 Lot 1, 3rd picture: I'm seeing the base of 7092 Skeleton's Prison Carriage as well. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7092-1 Lot 1, last picture: There's a speeder bike that looks like the one that came from 7676 Republic Attack Gunship. Looking at the Ewok/endorse sets, it appears most of those have gray backs, not the black back of this speeder bike. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7676-1 Lot 2: I would be willing to wager you have a number of pieces from 7659 Imperial Landing Craft. It appears the windshield, a few white plates and white landing pieces are all in this lot. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7659-1 Finally, in the last picture it appears there is a dark red 5x6 hexagonal flag that is probably from 7283 Ultimate Space Battle. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7283-11 point

Tonight I built 4184 The Black Pearl for the first time. It was the cream of a bulk lot I picked up a few months ago and I left it for last. Interesting build, and what an impressive result!1 point

Can we add a badge with a hawk icon that indicates we schedule our lives around lego purchases? Alternatively, it can be a granny with a single tear rolling down her cheek.1 point

My concern with this is the lack of clear identification that it is a licensed Mini product. No sticker and no identifying anywhere on the bag that it is. The mini Camper though did and had a VW licence and logo on the bag. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker1 point

Most people buying from Target are betting on short run. if it is short run, and price spikes within 120 days return window, $5 not gonna matter. If it does not spike, or TLC floods the market, then Target will see sudden influx of returns. It's like using options to cover bet on futures, except the price of the option is $01 point

i'm now thinking the window for selling this set might be shorter than originally thought due to the long retail life and upcoming refreshes. i'm not sure of it's long term growth. why? if Batman 75th teaser posters are indicators, Wonder Woman will be refreshed soon with silver accents along with other minor details. it has been over 2 years since her minifig was introduced so she's due. i'm not sure how Superman and Lex refreshes but I can imagine the same exact 6862 Supes being in a future set before his next movie. also in the 1st poster below, we have a Green Lantern who we now know is arriving soon with Space Batman (from another poster that also showed the SDCC Batman, Zur-En-Arrh). additionally, the SDCC 1966 Batmobile was in an earlier teaser poster.. At the time each poster was introduced, items depicted were either already in-production or about to be (mass retail or limited like the SDCC items). All this is just something to think about. nothing more, nothing less. furthermore, we know minifigures usually drive set demand (especially with super heroes who seem to be refreshed more often nowadays)1 point

either you are reading my posts or we have some mental connection i just think 10214 is finally going to sunset later this yr. i'm prob wrong but do really wish people would start buying up this set like 10221 SSD and 10211 GEs so we can see how shop@home behaves. heck, i wasn't even looking to buy another 10214 today. it's a nice set just not my cup of tea. however, it was like the "force" whispered in my ear that "this was the set you are looking for"..1 point
