We certainly have some high level execs from TLG among us.......I mean how else could some of you speak with such absolute certainty about these sets. I would think having such a high profile job within TLG wouldn't afford you the time to be on these forums all day but I sure am grateful that you are.

Guys, I think your arguing is a bit pointless, in a sense that the outcome of the argument is not going to affect anything. People who believe in SSD would be happier if less of other people got them. People who don't want SSD don't have many options to get one at normal price, and for sure not going to get it at market price, since they did not bother at MSRP. If SSD shows up again, people who believe in SSD will just get more. People who don't - they'll just say "Aha! we told you!", and still not buy it. So, see - nothing really would change.

No offense intended, and I'm glad the ISD is a suitable substitute for YOU - but for me, and I think almost everyone else (latter is speculation, of course), it isn't even in the same universe. ISD is a tiny toy compared to the monster that is the SSD. The feature that the ISD is missing compared to the SSD is a big bucket of awesome. Understood that display space is always going to be an issue with a set so huge, but that's exactly what sets it apart. I can't imagine anyone truly cross-shopping these two. That is exactly what I am thinking... Where does this "oh my god, I'm not sure this set will become a winner, because it's price is too high/ takes too much space to display/ box art is crappy/ enter another strange reason here..." come from? I sadly cannot explain, but, looking into the past of other UCS and big sets, they all grew a lot after several years. Why shouldn't the new sets follow the same path (even according to the argumentation space/ price/ bla)? Many of the sets even start to grow in price even without being officially "EOL". I haven't got enough space to display and so the target group hasn't neither? Nonsens IMHO, argumentation based on nothing! The MF sells for lots of money and so do the other UCS/ modular sets already EOL. There is always a target group that has the possibilities to buy these sets (even when it is a christmas present for the beloved husband, e.***.). And even more and more BP members come up with an argumentation against sets growing in worth because they didn't already double after 2 weeks... where has the patience gone, which is an essential requirement for selling sets after a couple of years (after EOL, AND (!) NOT days and weeks, even months after EOL!). Just my 2 cents...

Chances are, if you have $700 of disposable income for a toy, you probably have enough space to display this set.......or you build it, leave it out for awhile, and take it apart. The target market for this set (which is still a huge market) is the 30+ age group with good jobs.

Excellent advice. I had sold a bunch at auction for $50-55 but listed one last week for $65 Buy it Now and it sold in 3 days.

3 GE's or one SSD? Hmmm Triple the work. One listing each will do, but shipping is where the extra time comes in. It may be easier to find buyers in the lower entry ~330 (us dollars) versus 800? Biggest baddest Star wars set compared to a well hoarded GE Modular set. To each their own, both should provide opportunities to make mad cash. I think the path to doubling your money will be faster with GE. Sell three GE's making ~155/set or sell one SSD to make $350? Choose your own path.

GE might be the better bet in the EU

From the info that I have gathered from more experienced investors here on brickpicker, chose the GE's. You'll have 3 vs. the 1 SSD.

The Palace Cinema came out last year. It has a long time before it will go EOL according to the pattern of the other modulars that Lego has released like the Fire Brigade. I expect this set to go EOL in the fall of 2017. You will have time to buy some of them before it goes EOL.

Hahah, that's a good one and I agree. I have a friend in Arizona and his house is so huge. So he has one 911 turbo and he also has another Porsche Carrera, go figure. He built 3 SSD and asked me if he can take all five of mine, if not, he said he will try to scour for one on eBay. I told him to go on eBay and clean out those who are selling at $650 so I can sell mine at a higher price. There are many people with big homes in America. It makes me feel as though those who are posting live in big cities with limited floor space. In America, we do have garages and gates properties. At least some of us do. I need to get the GE for sure. In what order of the Modulars do I need to start? GE came out in 2010 and the Pet Shop in 2011. I want to get the oldest first before it retires and then the next and so on.

I really don't understand what you're trying to say here, you can make this "argument" against any set: - Must be a LEGO fan and collector/builder - Must be a city/space/lotr/star wars/castle fan etc etc etc - Must have enough cash - Must want this particular set - Must have enough room to store/display it (thats debatable) Saying this is the reason the SSD will not do well doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Of course only a subset of all Lego buyers will like a particular set, some Lego fans don't like certain themes and love others. By this logic we should dump all of our VW T1 campers because 100% of Lego buyers aren't VW or camper fans?

Also, hate to say it, but most nerdy LEGO fans are probably nerdy Star Wars fans, and nerdy LOTR fans. There is reasoning how TLG picks their partners.

It's always the people who missed out, then come out bashing a set trying to devalue something. It just doesn't work. The SSD is a set to invest in no matter how you cut it. Comparing a readily available haunted house to this is a joke. And comparing the little star destroyer to this one is like buying a Ferrari that goes on the streets to a hot wheels Ferrari. Again, all due respect, but you're entirely off base here. You are not the target market for the SSD, nor is anyone else without the room for it. But as you say, "the point is entirely elsewhere" - the fact is there are quite a few people who DO have the space, and the cash. For the subset of that demographic who are AFOLs and/or SW IP fanatics, and there just isn't anything more impressive in terms of display than this very set. Those are the people who will pay ~$800 or whatever for these after EOL. Not you. You simply can't argue with the current ebay sales at $600 and up (when it isn't even officially retired). Or, as has been alluded to above, the success of 10179. That set is just as bulky, and I agree with naf, even MORE difficult to display than 10221. MF is more iconic, sure, but it isn't as if the SSD is unheard of. So who are the people paying thousands for 10179? Same ones who will ultimately pony up for the SSD. In short, I get it, it's not for you, and agreed, it isn't for a lot of other people in the same situation. But that makes it absolutely no less of a strong investment, because there is undeniable proof that such a market does indeed exist.

Are you kidding? Did you really compare the SSD to the new system scale Star Destroyer? One is a model aimed at adults, adults who have lots of money to spend. The other one is a kid's toy. As many, many others have said before, people dont buy UCS sets for "features," they buy them for the impressive display value, they are built and displayed as realistic models of the ships. You seem to have the same mental block that neocacher has, it's a bad investment because you don't like it. I actually think it's easier to display the SSD than the UCS Millennium Falcon, and the Falcon has no problems selling for a high price.

A lot of people talk about the new Star Wars movies and wonder if they'll they bring back the Falcon or a new Death Star or whatever, but it seems like everyone's missing a point that should be obvious: Lego and Star Wars will want to promote the hell out of the new movies, and the new ships and characters. I think we're more likely to see a whole slew of ships we've never heard of before. Avengers, Guardians, Spider-Man, Lego Movie, you name it

Most people will say this is a matter of personal taste/opinion, but believe me...this is one of the most iconical ships from the movie and a great set to display! The concept artist/designer Ralph McQuarrie who worked on the original 3 movies is absolutely AMAZING! There is no words in any language that can describe how talented this guy is and how big his visionary was! The way we know Star Wars today is all thanks to him. The new Spaceships from episode 1, 2 and 3 might be newer, made with better technology,..some 30 years later, bla bla bla ....but are no-where near the vision of the great McQuarrie. So..to say the SSD looks dull is a shock to me and disrespect to this amazing creation. I personally would have wanted it bigger, more complicated etc etc...but I know this is impossible to sell and make profit as a business case. So what we have here is already great stuff! Have you watched the movies anyway? You said it yourself you just started a month ago and already making predictions that people here (collecting and investing for years) can't make. If you don't like the SSD and you consider there is no point investing in it, then why all this rant about it? Is it us you're trying to convince or yourself?

Don't feel bad... I started collecting about 8 months ago... You can't dwell on what you missed the boat on. Regrets will kill you in this game. I thought that way about the Imperial Shuttle for awhile... Look into the future but use the past for historic patterns. Think like a farmer: "crop rotation". It would be nice to double your money on Lego but anything less is still better than the stock market! Flipping SSDs is just crazy... Aim towards smaller to medium sets (<$100) if you want quick turnover... Good luck!

Just so people get some perspective I have been hunting for a mint sealed black monarch castle, blacks seas barracuda and carri ean clipper. So far no luck on a sealed pristine copy. I am willing to pay 4 figures for the monarch castle and barracuda. None to be had. Look up the tetail prices of those sets. An investor must be able to detach their investment opportunity from their own biased limited understanding. Bugatti contibues to sell multi million dollar cars because rich folks want them, plain amd simple. Same thing goes here. True collectors in many cases that have resources ignore price for what they want, and to not think so as an investor on this side of the trade is ignorance. The highest demand sets are the biggest always have been. That is also why i am putting money on tower bridge. To each his own though. I am glad people are not as invested in this as it would seem, makes a better long term opportunity.

Yeah and the VW Beetle is awesome and a good comparison. At least where I am from and live now - VW Beetle is definitely much more beloved and still bought quite a bit. I have several friends with VW Beetles that really want the old Lego set still. While the VW Bus is awesome, these aren't still all over the road fueling interest, etc. Plus the Beetle came out in a different age and is continuing to grow in the golden age of Lego interest while not being produced anymore. But I certainly wouldn't be surprised to be wrong here. And I would be happy because I certainly have invested in a nice number of these

I think closer to $200-250 is a more reasonable expectation than $400. I know I'd probably be happy to sell at about $250. Perhaps $400 in quite a few years but I'd guess many investors would be happy to sell lower than that. Might take many years for supply to really get scarce.

I just finished sorting & building a 15 lb lot I got from Goodwill. 4441 Police Dog Van, 4440 Forest Police, 3367 Space Shuttle, 3368 Space Center, 7208 Fire Station, 7287 Police Boat, 7641 City Corner, 7498 Police Station and 12 extra minifigs. Most of the instructions were included and less than a dozen pieces were missing. I paid way more than I normally would for used Lego but it was well worth the $96.

Star Wars Clone Wars Twilight (7680) complete $60. Yes, my son loves The Clone Wars series, LEGO Clone Wars III game, and the movie. At least I got one with that hard to find little Huttlet slimeball, Rotta. Don't get me wrong, I really like "The Clone Wars" series too. I'm not a big fan of the movie storyline with Rotta though, or this ship, for that matter.

I have 42 GE,41DS, and 42 SSD if Amazon really ships them. and the most I have is 68 haunted Houses. Anybody says there is no anxiety in buying and selling Lego is wrong, if you stick with it for years it will get to you. And when I say at Least 75% of would be investors Crack sooner or later well I even get the urge to crack once in a while, and like I said if I didn't box my sets up when I get them, I would cracked on selling alot of stuff to early. Yeah the biggest setback would be a redesign of this model in hte next 5 years if a similar ship shows up in a future Star Wars Movie(Of which there will be several probably). Of course like another guy said earlier, putting $400 in Apple stock may see that hit $800 in 4 years also and I don't know if this set can hit $1000 or if there will be many buyers at that price point.

While I'm all for investing in a theme like Galaxy Squad if you can buy it at the right price, you can't compare a generic Space themed set with some unique looking Creator set that would appeal to AFOLs. The AFOLs, for the most part, are what supports the high end secondary market, so you have to figure an adult would rather spend big bucks on a cool adult oriented set, rather than some run of the mill CITY or Space set.

Well with all this talk about being an a-hole, I guess there is nothing left to do but sing the a-hole song.
