  3. I think people need to realize there probably won't be any sort of sale on high end STAR WARS sets during the May promo. If history gives us any indication of what types of sets will be discounted, look at the unpopular small to mid sized sets near EOL. I really hate to sound like a broken record here, but members were warned numerous times over the past several months to take advantage of the Double VIP points for large sets like the UCS SSD and R2-D2. It is quite possible that the SSD will never come back into stock on Amazon and disappear from Target and Walmart in the next week. If you truly want a SSD, now is the time to buy one, while you still can get one at MSRP.

  4. Great now we need a thread "things I saw on reddit".

  5. These prices are essentially top of the range right now, and even more in some case like 7939. You're giving him full ebay price with this, which is not a sound investment, even if they can make money over the course of the next few years. If you're taking this much on at one time, it has to be worth it to you, which means him coming down a few thousand. There is definitely money to be made here, but you entry point has be lower than 12k for you to make money in under a few years.

  8. The White House did well for me last year. I was consistantly getting $60ish for it, not bad when purchased for around $30.

  9. Looks like LEGO has joined the dark side. Jedi would never have a sale this pitiful.

  10. I hope you find something. The Walmart here had the set at retail price forever it seems like. Checked today and bingo. Lucky timing. Also picked up quite a few corporate alliance droid tanks for $13 each.

  14. The goblins and trolls talk in the books. Also, the orcs talk in LotR's (they just aren't given many lines), and the cave trolls are a different beast than the trolls in the hobbit, so I'm ok with this. It was explained to me by my high school history teacher (who was a big time star wars geek) that ancient rome was more technologically advanced than medieval europe after the empire fell, so the same could be said with the republic in star wars. With the huge clone war and the empire taking over, technological advancements stopped or took a step back while the galaxy rebuilt.

  17. I have really enjoyed these movies, even having read the Hobbit book twice. I know they have extended the original story and taken some liberties to bulk up the plot, but I have loved revisiting Middle Earth and find myself getting drawn into these movies. I can't wait for the Battle of Five Armies and only wish there were more LOTR movies on the horizon from Peter Jackson.

  23. Honestly, after looking at the picture you posted the seals look fine. I see boxes like that all the time, sometimes the tape stretches out, or they weren't applied straight at the factory that can cause them to look broken. I really wish they'd use a thicker tape, or use the punch tabs the smaller boxes use.

  28. Maybe others can learn from your experience. Think about how much time and money is wasted by constantly checking local Walmarts and Targets for these minifigures when a person could have just preordered and did something worthwhile with their time. Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker

  29. I'm waiting. I also put myself on "eternal backorder" waiting for my excavators. Too good of prices to cancel orders. I'm holding my breath, but getting a little dizzy.

Just want to say great job to Martin P, he has been doing a great job collecting pricing info. I think I approved over 4,300 Brickpoints for him a few days back. Great job!!

  38. OK, now you guys pretty much have me convinced to pick these up at retail whenever I see them. I haven't paid MSRP yet for this set, but I guess I'd better get them while I still can.

  39. My gosh! The market is getting more and more competitive! Making profit is becoming harder! What a blasphemy! Who expected this? Oh wait... As long as there is profit and entry is easy and not limited, the market will attract new players and develop new, increasingly complex practices to exploit the opportunity. Some people are panicking here like they did not know this and believed that LEGO investing would be a piece of cake forever. The LEGO investing scene has arrived to its mature phase and is showing its sign very well. Major players (TRU, emazers, etc.) are developing with a competitive fringe (small investors). Making profits requires more and more strategy and insight. Inefficient players will drop out (panickers are afraid of this?), it can not be avoided. The key to survival is adaptation. This is the essence of Ed's post. Investors have to select sets more carefully while profits will become potentially smaller with the introduction of extra uncertainty through not knowing which set TRU will not resell which results in more sets invested in bought around MSRP and with the increasing participation. So will it be harder to make profits? Certainly. What you have to do? Adapt and be efficient! Will it require more effort and time? Absolutely! In a contestable market this can be considered as a law. Who thought otherwise, believing that profits and required effort will stay the same in the long term is -sorry for the expression- plainly stupid.
