Of course I cleared the shelf! That's how I roll. I even had an employee scan one to see if there were more in back. No dice. My 6 year old daughter was with me so she helped carry them out. She was smiling from ear to ear. Probably because her birthday is coming up soon and she knows she will get one. I told her she had to act surprised...lol.2 points

Ha, you do too! My formula only picks up movements of >0 being green, the rest get red. I'll change it next time so that those with the same position get a nice yellow sideways arrow Looks like the two at the bottom are in the same spot as well.2 points

Picked up a used and complete w box and instructions Architecture Fallingwater for $50 today. Saving it to build when my dad the architect comes into town. Also stacked Kmart goodness to get a Dolphin Cruiser and two Iron Man/War Machine sets for about $55 shipped after tax.1 point

Yes, thank you! I thought I was missing one. Hopefully the last of the four digit sets retire soon so their value can go back up and stay there. 1000TH POST!!!!!!!1 point

Well, the 8009 is only worth about $40 or so, and I don't really have much invested in SW sets at the moment (a few Sail Barges, but that's about it) so whatever effect the new movies have, it won't really impact me that much. I just thought it was an interesting angle and one that I hadn't considered. Mainly, I just hope the new movies are, you know, good. Actually, that may be one of the reasons why the prequels didn't have much of a positive impact on any of the collectibles: most people thought they were garbage.1 point

Being violently ill is all part of the Taco Bell experience. With regards to the new movies, I am not so sure that they will bring a "renewed" interest in Star Wars merchandise or collectibles. They may flood the market with new toys that will be competition. Episodes 1-3 did not increase the value of my old Kenner toys from the '80's...in many ways it stopped their growth in their tracks.1 point

Thanks for the replies everyone. My instinct was to sell, sell, sell, so I'm happy to get some validation on that front. I hadn't even thought about the impact of the new Star Wars movies, so thanks for that MartinP. I think I'll pass on the Taco Bell, though. I've only actually eaten there once and I was violently ill afterwards.1 point

I have never had bad packing from yoyo. I've only purchased from them a handful of times, but I would put them at the top as far as safely shipping sets goes.1 point

completionists will buy it also, like me, anyone have a pair they want to trade, let me know1 point

Yes, this is unfortunate. Many good people are getting hurt (some are being sent msgs about having their accounts suspended). The lack of an option of disputing defects, or removing any non issues is just unfair. But this isn't about being fair, or creating a better buyer experience. It is just about lowering the number of 20% discounts on fees. They have always made you jump through hoops to maintain the TRS , but now you are also blindfolded, and your legs are tied.1 point

OK, now you guys pretty much have me convinced to pick these up at retail whenever I see them. I haven't paid MSRP yet for this set, but I guess I'd better get them while I still can.1 point

Right, and after the meal they'll be in the bathroom for the next few hours. Chance to buy more lego without them knowing. Bonus!1 point

Glad to hear of your luck. I previously mentioned a month or so ago with my Target getting restocked on that one at a dollar above retail price tag for whatever reason. Funny how they just sit there despite their secondary market worth but then again I don't think anyone even knows of the whole price matching thing at Target so it isn't surprising. Anywho, I don't know about you but if the current trend continues then the sky is the limit for that little set. Talk about betting on the winning horse.1 point

After seeing how Lego tackled The Simpsons, I guess they would make a ton of new head molds which would be amusing but rather weird seeing Mr. Mackey, Officer Barbrady, Starvin' Marvin, Mr. (or Mrs.) Garrison, and so on as an official minifigure. Then again I will admit to totally wanting a Kenny minifigure. He would go right there on my desk at home. I almost said work but no way would he be safe there from all the "Oh my god! They killed Kenny!" pranks.1 point

I could use a good dose of laxative to pass those Logs. Eh, the buy-in was probably too high really. Now had I 'invested' in them around last August or September, I would be doing considerably better at the moment. Well there's a good lesson in timing isn't it? Knowing the best time to buy or sell are both of equal value. Now I know.... and knowing is half the battle! G.I. JOE!!!!1 point

If I remember correctly it was something to do with the Desert Skiff's value being too low. I believe Grolim addressed it somewhere in the middle portion of this thread.1 point

That is a fantastic find! Even at retail it`s worth buying up every single one you can (I hope 8 was all of them).1 point

Here are a few more stats: The top set had a 46% price jump from Feb to March. Unfortunately for most they didn't have any in their portfolio. There was only 1 lucky/savvy person and that was MartinP who had 1 set. MartinP had a Tractor set as well and along with Quacs who had 3 was the only ones with those. At the other end of the scale here are the worst performing sets for the month. Only 1 unlucky soul had a solitary Architecture Studio, mr_cotta. An the results above of znjndmawn being the biggest slider down the charts was due to being the only person with Artic Batman, 46 of them for the entire portfolio.1 point

Here you go, updated for March results: Please check your entries individually and let me know of any issues: The heavy Desert Skiff strategy seems to be paying off early for the two at the top. Will it maintain the growth or at least hold off other sets that may go EOL before June? Time shall tell. The biggest mover since the Feb update in the positive direction is LegoManiacc up 38 places from 56th to 18th. On the slide side we have znjndmawn down 64 spots from 18th to 82nd.1 point

3186 Emma's horse trailer x8 at target for Christmas flips. I haven't seen these in the wild in my neck of the woods for quite awhile until it stumbled upon these tonight while looking for a riddler chase for my son's birthday (struck out on that).1 point

You know it! People should be able to quickly check their own performance by looking up their set entries. I need to process 119 different sets1 point

The 71006 is no longer an exclusive! In the UK, Smyths Toys & TRU are getting them in next month with John Lewis to follow soon after. If anyone has bought hundreds of items off eBay, the chances are that you have handled stolen property - hopefully unknowingly. I've been selling CITY sets dirt cheap and I've already been asked if the sets are nicked, I just don't bother replying to those that ask such stupid questions. As if I'm going to say "Yes!" My best haul was 67x 41999s at well under RRP as the buyer was getting divorced (or so I was told) and needed the cash within 48 hrs. I drove straight up to Birmingham the morning after (100 miles) to meet him with fresh1 point

My opinion is to sell. In the case of LEGO sets, the most appreciation takes place at EOL (or shortly after). It then levels off and might climb, but at a slower rate. I think your gut reaction was right: sell these and buy something with more potential earnings....and the VW is a good example of that. Not sure CAD prices, but in the US you could get 2 Grand Emporiums ($300), 2 VW's ($240) and 2 Sopwith Camels ($200) and might still have enough after sales tax to treat your significant other to a delicious meal of Taco Bell. Not bad for $300 CAD! Oh...don't forget selling fees. Might need to change that to 1 SC. Still terrific though!1 point

Now we have official images for the Summer 2014 Chima sets! via Brickset: I really think that the Chima theme is getting much better. Mammoths are awesome.1 point

It's also important to note that Emazers' strategy is one that requires you to tie up the largest amount of up-front capital for the longest period of time. If you've got the money and patience, it's a good strategy, but you have to remember that he's been at this for years and already has a huge amount of working capital to utilize in executing the strategy. When you have a large capital base, it's easy to buy up a lot exclusive sets and wait for them to retire. When you have a smaller capital base, it's much riskier because if you time the retirement of a set incorrectly, you end up with a substantial portion of your capital tied up in a set that is going to sit for years without making you any money (like many have done with the Death Star). If you have the money to diversity across a large number of exclusive sets, you'll be able to mitigate this risk, but when you're starting out, you have to be sure that you're timing the retirement of the sets correctly to avoid getting burned.1 point

Good tip. Was skeptical at first, but it does work. I doubt I'll bring my flashlight into a store though. :)1 point

I use a powerful LED flashlight. You move the small pieces to the bottom of the package. Hold the flashlight directly underneath the package right up against it on the front of the package. Hold the little flap of the package back on the back side. In that small space where the is no printing on the package you can see the pieces inside the package. It works. I successfully identified a whole case on the previously series of minifigs using this method. I just tried it with the Simpsons minifigs and it works also. Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker1 point

I wouldn't say that any of the people who have been doing this for a while are stupid, they were way ahead of the curve on this, afterall. And I haven't seen one person who has been doing this for years ever say that they are surprised that this is happening. All any of them has represented is more of a disappointment in what it has become. Also, none of them have stated they're done. Of course they are adapting, but it doesn't mean they can't be disappointed in the new market. They already know how to do this. I think people forget that when people started doing this 10 years ago there was no site to ask every day "what should I buy?!" or "when will xxxx retire?!" or "when should I sell this?!" They did it all on their own and they are plenty savvy. Don't mistake disappointment for unpreparedness.1 point
