  1. Deals at TRU have been amazing for several months now. People complaining about TRU prices are you forgetting: - $25 hobbit barrel escape (and then tack on $20 off 100, or $10 gift card when you spend 50?) - Baxter's revenge (and then tack on $20 off 100, or $10 gift card when you spend 50?) - Y-Wing on clearance - Palatine's arrest down to 60 - Technic sets for 20% off - FREE $60 Highway pickup when you buy a hard to find exclusive set (some as cheap as 119.99) over the holidays, And many more including the wendy's gift card 10 after 40 spend, several bogo 50's, etc. If TRU goes away, other stores wont just get all those exclusives. We LOSE a company that pays to get those exclusives. They just wont be made. How many times have you seen a set online, not quite sure how you feel about it, but when you find it in store on the shelf, you get a real feel for what the set is. perhaps they even have an awesome display that gives you the sense of scale and what you're actually getting in the box. Can you always find what you're looking for at Walmart, Target, etc? Do they often have barren shelves, messy shelves, items all over the place? You can almost always find what you're looking for at TRU. yes because their prices are higher if you're an impatient buyer, but its there. If TRU wants to try to get 500 for a death star or 530 for a Super Star Destroyer for a few months (or maybe even just weeks),,,,,,,,,,THAT"S GREAT. Take a break and don't buy from them this month, Enjoy the potential expansion of price on Death Stars so that folks won't be so freaked out when they eventually hit 600 and 700 on amazon (if they ever retire). The patient and educated buyer should WELCOME others in the same market getting higher prices for their goods ESPECIALLY if you ever want the value of your goods to increase. TRU hate is misguided, and you'll be sorry when they're gone.

  4. Sounds like a "sale" is coming up at TRU. I don't know why anyone would wish for TRU to go under. We have gotten plenty of decent deals

  6. The tools buying stupid amounts of the same set and also buying ridiculous dollars amounts at one time will ruin lego investing long before brickpicker does.

  9. There are well over 25,000 members right now and most are not heavy duty resellers, or even resellers at all. Most are just fans that want to know what their sets are worth and where to find good deals on LEGO sets. There is a ton of activity behind the scenes between members, so the Classifieds will just help expedite that. We realize that the Classifieds are not going to work for sellers that take advantage of uninformed eBay or Amazon buyers, but for many, the Classifieds will be a cost effective way to list their sets/parts to sell and trade to other members.

  10. We asked everyone to submit their final pledge by Sunday evening so all further donations can be directed to the family. Details on where to send those donations are above. Here is a quick update on the donations for the sets: We received $839.01 via Paypal after transaction fees. I am covering the transaction fees so adding that back ($25.99) plus my original pledge of $40, brings us to $905.00 (one $20 pledge is still outstanding). We purchased 4 sets that totaled $746.35. The remaining balance of $158.65 will go towards the minifigure shelf, or if that plan doesn't work out, another larger set.

  12. There's a Groupon deal right now for 36% off a ticket to Brick Fest Live LEGO Fan Festival Meadowlands Expo Center (Secaucus, NJ) on July 11-13, 2014. http://www.groupon.com/deals/brick-fest-live-lego-fan-festival There also appears to be a save an extra 20% off one local deal that expires today. Code is LOCAL20. I haven't read all the fine print, so check the site for all that.

  21. TRU is a mystery, but it is unfair to wish for a company to go under. Hey, you don't like the price then don't buy from them! Not like any of you can run a huge company, right? j/k Seriously though, we've seen some deals from TRU and we leaped on them, so don't be a hypocrite. I walked in yesterday to a store and found a decent deal on JP (MSRP!) and the cashiers were willing to stack coupons and give me the best deal, but was only able to use the 20% coupon. The point is, we need competition, otherwise, in the future we'll have to only shop at the likes of Wally World and they will run up the prices, since they will most likely outlast all others...

  24. Welcome! I too am a dad of 2 (boys) with an amazing wife. I love playing Lego with my boys and that, more than anything, it what got me into this. I love the board game idea--I'm into table-top wargames (warhammer, historical, that kind of thing) and one of these days I'm going to do up all the scenery/terrain out of Lego and use mini figs as my army. Awesome how you wife uses Lego and other toys. I'm a teacher as well (high school) and I'm in awe of the work that special ed teachers do--true saints.

  25. Maybe it's my steadily declining eyesight, but I have real trouble discerning between the light/dark browns and the black/dark gray bricks in the original manuals. Building Orthanc and Bag End drove me craaaaaazy. Give me bright Friends colors any day.

  26. Any selling forum outside of ebay and amazon is a plus, since the overhead in those venues is stupid. I miss the old days of ebay. That being said i think we get a little ahead of ourselves in terms of how big am impact we make on pricing. It is a big world out there. Just look at the cumulative all in value of all brickfolios, this represents years of buying and holding. Compare that to just one year of legos gross sales. I am not worried. I may buy 100 of a 50 dollar set on discount. Who cares it is a drop in the bucket, and our cumulative bucket is only a slightly bigger drop. More sales venues is a good thing. I am thinking ahead 3-5 years with a projection of this portfolio and how to maximize profit and minimize cost. This is a good thing. You cannot realize profits on tangible investments without a sale. I am excited to see what rolls out, thanks.

  32. Some of you read my light box article. I just recently discovered a new use for it! This is my three-legged, blind in one eye, cat named Tom. I am sure that everyone here with cats knows that if you leave a box on the floor, the cat will eventually end up inside the box. When I saw this, I grabbed the camera. My cat was very cooperative and looked up for most of the pictures. When I created my light box, I planned to photograph minifigures with it, but I guess it works pretty well with pets, too!

  40. I generally liked this wave of SW, and I prefer the vehicles and models in Episode III as opposed to Episode II. However, I wish we got more MEMORABLE moments from Revenge of the Sith, like Yoda vs. Darth Sidious, instead of "Battle of Saluecami," which was seen for barely 5 seconds in the entire film. I adore the new Jedi Interceptor, but wish we got a Red model for Obi-Wan, or maybe both for $40-50? I wish Boga was included in the Grievous Wheel Bike set, then I wouldn't mind it being $25 or $30. The only reason for purchasing the Tri-Fighter is Chancellor Palpatine. Otherwise, it's a horrible DOWNGRADE compared to 2010's 8086 Droid Tri-Fighter. I'm glad we get a better V-Wing, but like I said before, I wish we got more memorable models instead of 3 second cameo vehicles. The Utapau Troopers battle pack is my favorite, because they are just so much cooler than all other clones (except for the 501st in Episode III). My biggest disappointment is NO Commander Cody anywhere. He's pretty awesome looking, and was way underused in the Clone Wars (but don't get me started on the faults of TCW). I am not happy with the new Chewbacca, because his face doesn't really look like Chewbacca's. I do like Tarfful, and I am pleased with Gree, but his presence makes me even more mad that we didn't get Commander Cody. I don't care for Microfighters at this point, but I see there is an obvious draw for some, and a great distaste from others. The two Clone Wars sets are better because the vehicles and Clones are better. I wish we got more exclusive figures WITH the already included ones, it would help to soften the blow of the price for these sets, but with the constant changes I suppose they are exclusive anyways. :/ Overall, better than 2013's summer release, but it could have been better. It looks sad compared to the next line up though. Original trilogy, here I come!
