  2. I generally tend to give the best advice I possibly can. I wish I could buy every deal I come across and invest in every set/theme that catches my investment fancy, but in reality that is impossible given my limited capital (and if I had enough capital to buy everything I wanted I would probably have enough cash that I wouldn't bother with Lego investing and just be a Lego builder with my kids) and I'd rather have investors grabbing deals. I also tend to think the BP community has less of an impact on the total Lego market than we'd like to believe, so not much harm in trying to help others. Last, I still make mistakes, but fewer than when I started thanks to helpful posts, blogs and advice. I don't mind paying it forward, so to speak, in trying to offer some advice of my own.

  3. I believe that LOTR is done - the reports from various toy fairs/expos didn't have anything LOTR and four (I think) placeholders for Hobbit sets this December. That being said, just because it isn't being pushed in the catalog doesn't mean second wave (and even a couple first wave) sets won't stick around. Around me most B&M stores don't have a lot of selection, but online availability should continue for some time.

  5. God only knows what the value of this thread is. I appreciate the offer to help with something, but you just need to wait. I am quite tired of listening to everyone that knows so much about whether the price guide is good or bad. It is just a guide, we have said that more than enough. Just like any car guide out there, it is just a guide. If you go to a dealer ship, good luck saying "Hey Kelly Blue Book says my Pinto is worth this". Please, feel free to create your own price guide. I know you have beat it up too many times to count. Please share your guide with the rest of us. I personally would like to see it. I just took a look, I am able to grab the data up to 2/26. So in a few more days I should have all of Jan/Feb and will get everything caught up.

  6. You need to ask yourself "what is your edge over your competition?". If you don't know, then you don't have one and you will fail miserably.

  7. I accidentally sold my Queen Anne's Revenge. lol. I had it listed on Amazon for a pretty high price thinking no one would bite. Well they did, and I had to quickly put it together to verify all the pieces were there (it was from a giant collection I bought earlier). Super sad to see it go, it is such a gorgeous display piece. Oh well, business is business I suppose. I also sold a few minifigures over the week and a Catwoman Catcycle City Chase.

  8. Not really .. when I get $1 dollar offers on ebay for a $100 dollar item I ignore them .. if you do not get a response within a reasonable timeframe the answer is probably not what you were looking for .. move along .. dont be so petty its a free site and im sure the owners mods. are using their resources and time to address actual concerns. Be alittle more appreciative please.

  9. Just figured out that the large tan baseplate is not from a Pharoh's quest set, but rather a 7627 Indiana jones temple of the crystal skull set. That would explain the Indy figs. BP used value for that set alone is $95. This lot just keeps getting better and better. Putting all of these together should make the rest of this long cold winter more tolerable.

  12. To all BrickPicker members and guests... As my brother, Jeff, stated earlier, we are a new and rapidly improving site about Lego 'investing' and collecting. If you feel there is anything we need to change or add, please feel free to message us. It is a work in progress and new ideas are always welcome. Feel free to ask us any questions about the site or various Lego sets/values. There are over 8400 Lego sets in our database and sometimes mistakes happen. If you have any questions or opinions about various Lego sets, displays, or minifigures, let us know. We will help in any way we can. Thanks... Ed Mack

  13. There has been a lot of questions lately,"I'm looking at X set for X dollars, should I buy it?" Let me preface this by saying, I'm dumb and use to be dumber (I've been a member and buying & selling since Jan 13) I can see both sides. Guys want advise and others think you should put in more research. Most members are helpful and patient to a point. Jim Cramer says, you can make money investing in company stocks if your willing to devote the time and research. If not buy a mutual fund. There is no such thing as a Professional Lego investment advisor ( some guys may be close). Read this site, watch EBay, visit all the stores, and you can answer yours and other peoples questions in time. After a year I still make bad decisions, just less of them. Thoughts?

  15. I would recommend setting your method of receiving rewards to email. They become visible towards the end of the month, printable on the last day of the month and are all good for about 2 months. This has been my experience at least. I've done quite a bit of complaining about TRU, but once you learn how to best take advantage of the sales and coupons the rewards can be pretty good. From December 31st through February 28th I've received $250 in rewards. That's essentially free money on top of discounted sets I purchased during the holiday sales.

  18. If you still have any clearance items in your store from this round you may want to check as it looks like they are at %50 off now. I found 2 rancor pits at $37.00 some Headhunters, and some planets series 3 still on the shelf. They were not labelled as such, they were still at their tag prices of %30 off. Just give them a scan if they have not been marked down to check. Only picked up the 2 Rancor Pits, chances of finding much left are probably pretty slim now as this clearance wave seems to be clearing out. Looking forward to the next!

  20. Heh you mean the price guide isn't going to tell me exactly what my set will sell for and the profit I will make on the exact purchase price that I bought it for in the exact condition?!?!? Oh wait - I just realized its called price "guide" and not Price "will absolutely wipe your butt for you and order new toilet paper afterwards". I kid - I kid. In all seriousness, anyone who looks at the price guide and thinks its wrong and leaves - good riddens. People who don't spend enough time to think about it before criticizing it are probably not going to be the best people to have on here anyway. I mean - everyone has a different interpretation of what it should be anyways right? We have people going on all the time about what it should or shouldn't be, where the data should come from, why it says more than a retail price when its still available, etc. The fact is - it is a guide because unless you are some omnipotent being, there is no way to know it to an exact number. Also - instead of putting something down or yelling for updates, find a way to use it in its current state. I used to not fill out my Brickfolio - NOW its an inventory system for my investment sets. I keep track of them in there and I check to see what stuff is growing at about what rate. Once something starts to slow down, I pull it out of my Brickfolio and put it in my Ebay store.

  21. These are the best lots to go through. Ahead before you even get started, and then find even more to sweeten the deal.

  22. Exactly - this is a guide only. When I'm actually getting ready to sell, nothing beats ebay sold listings (I use the link from BrickPicker). I find it best to take a look at the last five or ten sealed sets (obviously I'm selling a sealed set in this scenario) and what they sold for. I also look at individual sales if I think they are too low/high and check out shipping costs. I admit I like seeing my Brickfolio % increase, but during the holidays, for example, sets were increasing in value much faster than any price guide could keep up with. I use the guide as a general update on whether sets are reaching 'sale' potential only.

  23. Lego might have had either luck, or insider information - most likely the latter: there seems to be a minecraft movie in the works. Who is producing it? Roy Lee. Who is that? Well - you have heard about the Lego Movie, did you?

  24. Looks like you copied it perfectly. Coincidently, I found this large scale version of K-9 by Steven Locke.

  31. Maxifig? Maybe a Bantha? You never know, we are already getting a Dewback, we even got a rancor last year. A Bantha would increase the demand I would say.

  32. This lot just arrived today. I have been going through it for about two hours already, and I am finding all kinds of things from sets that weren't even mentioned in the listing, in addition to what is supposed to be there. So far I have come across two Indiana jones figs, a batman fig, a TIE fighter pilot, some tan battle droids, some power miner figs, a few green army men, a dark tan raised baseplate (I am guessing from a Pharoh's quest set), and at least 20 CMFs. Also, so far it appears as if all of the important pieces from the potter sets are here. For $135, this lot should turn a tidy profit.

  36. He is a original member of the justice league. Who knows how long/if we will see him in a regular set/made again. People will want the full team and in a year or so I would bet that this figure will go for $30-$40 a pop. I know most here are going to quick flip him, but I believe this one will post strong gains if you wait.

  37. Pardon my feelings on the matter, but calling out the owner of a free site which insane amounts of time outside of a normal job are spent on the site in which no money is earned from (they do it for fun) seems to be way more rude to me. It really makes me wonder how people can be so blatantly disrespectful to the people that make things like this possible. Hell - as one of the most vocal members on the site, I get more messages than I can respond to. I miss them every once in a while. It doesn't mean I don't care and certainly doesn't mean I don't want people asking me questions. More I just forget because I am a NORMAL HUMAN BEING with a job and life just like Jeff (less so because he probably has children, etc.). So lets just think before we post asinine comments please? AGkeene - I am sure your feelings on Lego sets will be much more appreciated

  39. Yes, but it's only available as part of the Ninja Dojo set which is the largest and most expensive of them. The total set includes the Arishikage Dojo (basically a Japanese style castle), the Hard Master (Snake Eye's and Storm Shadow's teacher just in case you're not familiar with the comics--apologies if you are), v. 1 Snake Eyes, Timber, 2 grey ninja students, Destro, Baroness, and the HISS tank. It's a neat set all around. The figures are great and the HISS build is nice, though it's mostly dark blue instead of black. I keep hoping in the future they'll re-release the HISS separately in black with the HISS driver. You can check it out here: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=24336216&cp=&parentPage=search When it was first released back in the fall it was $69.99. It was also half off that for a few hours on Black Friday. TRU usually does a BOGO 50% off not too long after new Kre-O sets are released, so it could be good grab along with the TD if you want them both and can wait it out.

  43. As a SW fan and a LEGO fan, I think these are awesome. Every SW fan I've shown them too also thinks they are awesome. They sit nicely on a shelf and a little easier to display then the Planets series (which I also like), because your eye is focused on the whole thing. They just look "fun". The kids I've shown them too also think they are great. I was also impressed with the quality and detail of the build of each set. And even if you think they look too cute, you can simply remove the "pilot" of each ship and the flick guns and they are quite good looking on their own. I think they look sharp completed and on a shelf. My only gripe is they used a "Generic" X-Wing pilot instead of taking the excuse to use a named pilot that hasn't made an appearance yet. In terms of investment potential, who knows? I'd like to point out the X-Wing and Tie w/Death star Planet series are both doing just fine, if you bought them for $5-$7. Even Endor with the AT-ST is starting to make some gains. I think at least the 4 Original Series microfighters should do just fine. There is no way they sell for under $15 after retirement, so if you get them at $5 a pop, you're in great shape.

  44. I got all (via TRU BOGO) except the AAT as I hate using those when playing SW Battlefront II. They have their charm and a good conversation starter due to their uniqueness. Also, it is easier to take 5 minutes break and play around with mini MF vs SD instead of their system couterparts. Plus over the weekend I saw probably the best use of it, as a birthday cake topper. So, yay for collecting, wait and see for investing

  45. Agreed for investing. I doubt many are jumping on this set currently due to the price. Additionally, I feel it's under appreciated so far. This is the longest Lego set available (width) with the Eiffel Tower next (height). Too bad Lego didn't make the interior more minifig friendly and include all the key ESB chars from the bounty hunter scene or this would be a grand slam. Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app

  47. Just judging by the US, the Batcave has jumped to around 105$ on Amazon. The Two Face Chase is around $83. So honestly, there isn't a huge deference percentage wise. The one reason I would say stock up on Two Face too - Batcaves are still being bought and hoarded up. Two Face is seemingly gone everywhere and I feel like its retired basically already.

  48. Damn man, do you need a hug? I think the microfighters is a cool idea and I'll probably grab all of them. Different strokes, I guess.
