Building LEGO

Talk about the builds you have done. Were they fun, difficult, do you recommend it? Please share!!!

  1. Started by TheOrcKing,

Here is a question for the builders, what is your favorite part? It can range from something you find aesthetically pleasing or universally usable.

  2. Started by TheOrcKing,

It took me a whole lot of planning as well as an understanding of the full sized modular houses but I finally managed to come up with a design utilizing only the pieces included with the three Log Cabin sets I purchased. As it currently stands, it is not a true modular design. However, that can easily be remedied by placing this build across a 16x32 baseplate and inserting four 1x2 bricks with the Technic pin hole in the proper spots but of course that would have used parts not included in the original set(s) itself so they were omitted for this personal challenge of my own design. I was lucky there were just enough tiles to cover the floor and furniture of which I really…

Alrighty then. For anyone remotely curious about the mini Voltron design in the other topic, here are instructions for each section based on the original and what I came up with in LDD featuring a Bricklink XML inventory file type of listing for creating a "Wanted List" down below. Just copy the text in the code box under "Inventory list" and paste that data into Bricklink to verify. I used the site's spoiler feature to help make focusing on each area of building easier. If any image seems small try clicking on one to enlarge. Inventory list: TOTAL: 138 pieces (including 'flame sword') LEG LIONS ARM LIONS TORSO LION Ready to form …

  5. Another builders question from me. I'm curious to hear what more experienced builders and MOC'ers do when they wish to design a build. Do you start off with a sketch on paper and/or design it virtually with a CAD program? How about coming up with a list for parts; do you create a little checklist and go down the line? Do you research to see what currently available sets contain most of the parts needed, just buy what you need through Bricklink, or maybe visit the Pick-a-Brick wall at a nearby Lego Store? Whatever it may be, I'd like to hear about your methodical processes.

Hi guys, so I have been very busy recently with my builds! I have a lot to share starting with this recreation of a classic scene. IMG_20161203_151458 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr This build sits on a 12x14 base. I have tried to recreate the weather vane as faithfully to the film. IMG_20161203_135638 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr The Luke mini fig is a custom, which I dont often like using, however the printing work on this figure is outstanding and looks perfect. IMG_20161208_225410 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I am really happy with the technique to make the bridge and think it works really well. IMG_20161207_145604 by dimitrin…

So I recently acquired a used 7150 TIE Fighter & Y-Wing set, and was putting them together to figure out what pieces were missing. While I was putting together the TIE, I came across a funny looking piece... Knowing my LEGO bricks, I knew that this one had to be a mistake. I won't be sending this one back to LEGO, as it is obviously a very rare occassion, but I'm curious if this has ever happened to anyone else. My guess is that the plastic injector ran out of plastic, so the mold wasn't completely filled. Enjoy the pictures!! (Anyone notice my play with the title? EuroBricks, Error Bricks? Haha.)

  9. How do you all buy your sets to build and why? I generally gravitate towards used sets put together that are complete. Cheapest way to get them and I have no problem disassembling them and putting them back together? How about it? Make sure you say why!

  11. Let's say you wish to introduce someone to the grand world of Lego. What set would you pick as the best example to get this person going? Impressing him/her display wise can be one thing while deciding on something for them to build that keeps their interest piqued is another. Perhaps on that note this could be considered a two part question. What set makes the best display for showing off what Lego is to other people and potentially get them interested? What set would you pick out as an interesting design for someone else to build that could leave them wanting more?

  12. About 1 year ago, I posted a thread asking which set. It was a lot of fun. While only a couple of sets from the list were built, many excluded from the list were. A couple of things were learned from the last vote that should improve this poll (e.g. less selections, not allowing multiple sections, 1 set per theme) *** There is only 1 rule. One vote per person. *** Voting will close this July 31th at 11:59PM EST.

  13. I'm about to finally start planning/organizing for my Hollywood Studio Backlot. I have a list if a bunch of parts that I need to order from bricklink. My question to all of you: do you purchase new or used pieces when working on a MOC. I would love to save some money, but I dont want the pieces I use to look beat up (the pieces from my childhood are not even beat up). Do you guys rely on one condition brick, or do you purchase both new and used?

Hi there guys, so I have finished another micro lansdcape moc. This time its the forest moon of Endor. I have tried to keep everything on a 16x16 base in keeping with my other micro landscapes. Does it look too packed though?I have been inspired by a few mocs already out there (2muchcaffine and sarah von noppenquader) but added a few elements of my own.Lego Micro Moc - Endor byI have built my shuttle in 'flight mode' as if it is taking off from the platform (with Luke and Vader on board!) However the wings do fold down and it fits onto the platform if I wanted to. I just prefer the composition of the piece with the shuttle higher up.This was actually a lot trickier than I…

  15. So I guess you could consider me an AFOL now. Haven't built Legos in forever until I got the itch a week ago and bought the Parisian Restaurant. Now I might be addicted lol. I wanna build my own modular to connect to it now, but I'm curious on what the best way to gather an assortment of Legos it. I know the Lego Stores in malls have assorted pieces, but am wondering, is their selection small and basic or is it pretty good? Will I be able to get most of what I need from their assortment there or will I have to order parts from online? Thanks for any advise!

  16. Started by Pseudoty,

So I am looking for a set to buy to build for fun, not as an investment, although I may sell it later as used. I would like for it to be $400 or under and NISB. It can be a current or retired set just looking for a fun build. I am not into the play factor or minifigs so the DS is out and I have all of the Arch sets already. Not interested in TB or any Modulars. My current choice is 10221 SSD just want to make sure I am not missing a neat retired or other current set. Your Suggestions:

Has anyone remade market street by buying the pieces and using the online instructions? Its 1200 some odd pieces just wanted to know what was the ballpark price you paid for the pieces? How many different places did you go to buy the pieces? How hard was it to find the pieces? This would be my first time doing this. The original is just too costly and you could add your own twist of color to it. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your help and input.

Is your collection of brick separators becoming unbearable? Are you tired with getting yet another in just about every set you build? Has every effort to give them away ended in failure? Well then this Flickr group can offer some interesting alternatives in what to do with those ever-growing collections of usually useful utensils! Be inspired to make your own bizarre builds! Be amazed with the uniqueness in concepts! Be dazzled by the orange!

Hey guys, So of course I've read a lot on this subject, but out of a bit of annoyance I decided to rethink it a bit. I've organized by color, and sometimes particular types. Similar to the system you usually see in pics/vids. Maybe this idea sounds like a "noob" system because it's not entirely accurate and there will be duplication. I've also come up with it largely because I don't have enough pieces, and don't want to keep opening my "investment" sets (I've opened $2000 in lego in 4 months). But I want to keep building. I also think this system might be easier and more conducive to sitting down and having fun rather than spending so much time searching for pieces. Latel…

So i currently own every modular building, once i pick up the Parisian Restaurant that would make 9 total, plus i have plans to make 2-3 MOC buildings and a park. Im trying to figure out how to arrange/display that many buildings. if i do it linear with a street in front of the buildings that almost 9 feet, roughly the whole wall of my basement lol. if i put buildings on both sides of the road i maximize use of the road (custom built 1x2 tile road to look like a stone road) What do you all recommend? anyone have any good pictures of a large modular display?
