Trains

Discussion for collecting and investing with Train themed sets.

  1. Started by TheOrcKing,

As per tradition since 2005, Lego holds an annual special event known as the Lego Inside Tour and at the end of these if you were one of the lucky few to attend then an exclusive set would be given as a gift commemorating the tour. Here is this year's Inside Tour exclusive. Also, The New Elementary has a review up for your curious perusal. via The Brick Fan

I just checked the LEGO Shop at Home Spain store and the Maersk Train is sold out with no expected back date. Grab a few while you can!

I have a chance to buy up to 10 10194 Emerald Nights at $230 each. What is everyone's opinion. Should I get a couple at that price?

  5. I'm getting ready to turn my son's wooden push train table (like Thomas) into a smaller sized lego train table. Just wondering if many of you use baseplates under your track? His trains will be the Ghost Train, Potter's Hogwarts Express with 2 cars and a caboose, and the Toy Story Western one. I have both 9v and PF track. I will most lilely use the PF track (save the 9v for Christmas time) around the tree. Trains speeds will be kept slow in the table. I will also remove the motor from time to time to allow him "push the train" time.

I purchased 7896 new about a year and a half ago for $14.39 (it's the straight and curved rails track set). These sets are going for $50 or more (if you can find them). Of all my sets, the 7896 has the highest appreciation in value (over 200%). For train tracks.....whoda thunk it? Plus Lego has discontinued them. Why I don't know. Now they have straight track and flexible track packaged together (7499). Flexible track is nice but I'd rather have curved sections. What is Lego's thinking regarding the RC train track? In order for the trains to be appealing there has to be the ability to expand beyond the basic oval or circle they provide with one of their se…

The recent revival of the Horizon Express topic made me think about the future value of this set. The train theme growth stagnated in 2015 and I was wondering what people really expect from this set. I thought that I would list some pros and cons and maybe some other people will have some input too. Pro: The crane dock is very well done and easy to expand upon The engine is excellent, especially if you are from North America. There's a cow There is no helicopter Two switches are included and that makes it easy to start a collection with this train or to make this your second purchase. Con: The "cargo" wagons a…
