General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by njseale,

So I have a situation I am actually unsure what to do. I had a buyer inquire about an item asking some kind of dumb questions. Next day he sends me a message saying he wants to buy item, but can't because he has 2 strikes against him(I have my ebay set to block buyers with 2 or more unpaid transactions in a year.) He says he wants to pay today. Buyer has 3 total feedbacks, but one is a "negative" positive claiming him as a deadbeat buyer. The item is kind of expensive, $800. Should I let him buy it or not. I am 50/50 at this point.

Around the end of yesterday on my way home, I perchance spotting a big "STORE CLOSING" banner on the side of my Kmart. Dang it. I know I barely went there much at all but I was actually looking forward on trying to catch next year's clearance sales and the next nearest one is a good half hour away from where I typically shop (assuming that one is not also being closed). I am not surprised about the closure honestly but it still is a little disappointing. Anyway, I went in and sure enough there were signs everwhere stating "Store Closeout Sale, All Sales Final" and a few with "10%-30% of lowest sticker price". It wasn't half off which I would think a store needing to l…

    Started by Guest,

My wife and I are new to collecting. We had our first real lego adventure today. This morning my wife and I went and got the sets we wanted to build next. My wife got Old Fishing Shop. I got tower bridge. We decided to stop at a thrift shop. We found 2 gallon baggies of legos for $3.99 each. I got them home and so far as I can tell. there are four sets. Mars Mission 9694, Creator 3in1 Jet 4953, Lego Racers 8153, And an unidentified as of yet Mars mission large set. We also found a lego board game there. lol We then stopped at another thrift store and bought 3 totes full of legos. These all appear to be from the 80s with a ton of minifigures. My wife had been dyi…

Saw someone post in the daily thread about emotional upset cashier and didn't want to reply there. I have a story I wanted to share and thought I start a new thread. If there is something similar already please MOD merge mine into it, thanks. My personal favorite of all time was when the XBox 360 first came out. I bought a Xbox 360 after the initial Xmas rush and wanted to get the highest quality cable for back then. I saw Circuit City had a Psyclone cable for the 360 at $25 which it normally sold for $60. So great I go to CC but they were all sold out, I was like "oh wait Best Buy price matches items I'll shoot over there. I go in, find they have the cable - sweet.…

I have been mulling over this for a while. What do people normally set their BIN listing lengths to? I sort have defaulted to the 30 days but I have noticed (with one exception that sold in 30 mins) most things tend to sell in the last week of the listing. So do people use the 30 day listing period or a shorter one? I am talking here about selling sets, in my case vintage ones, rather than PAB pieces in which I have discovered does not really work on ebay BIN.

I just found another very legitimate looking store that I am 99% sure is drop shipping with stolen CC's. The store is www.mechtoy.com and they seem to have a few decent deals, but too many things line up for them to be a drop shipper, every set is listed just a little below retail, every set has a fixed shipping and handling price of $10 and with a little reading, you can tell that the people who designed the site are not from the US, and the contact address is bogus. Anyway, please don't order from them as others will likely get some nasty surprises down the road on their CC's.

  8. I just received a delivery from Kmart and this was in the box. In case anyone is interested it looks like they are giving out 1,000 points ($1) per review. Limit of 25 per quarter. Not a bad way to pick up some points if you are a person that writes reviews anyway.

Not sure where to post this but thought it was interesting. I just went to a couple of my local shopkos to pick up some 40% off Airport Terminals and I saw these stickers at one of them plastered all over the Friends sets and a few Star Wars sets...

I have 3 old lego brand cars (vw bug, mercedes coupe and a for something) that are small metal cars with clear garages that the door open on. I also have a bunch of lego gears (red large, blue medium and white small) and lot of green plastic moulded trees that i was told are from lego as well (although there are no markings on them). Are these worth anything?

In the past, have any of the major Lego retailers had really good deals on the 4th of July? Thanks!

  12. I was offered two of this set at 49.99 USD (for two) free shipping. New sealed box. Boxes in good condition. I do not know whether this set has any investment potential. Thanks.

I found this site online through google. Gamestoysonline.com. The site doesn't look too bad, but just enough to make me worry that it's not legit.

  14. The reason I ask this is because my sales have dropped off to almost nothing for the last week. I don't understand it. I am a Top Rated Plus Seller, and have around 40+ active listings at all times. I used to do around $50-$70 a day on an average day, and over $100 on good days. Lately I have had two days where I didn't sell a single thing. This hasn't happened to me in several months! Has anyone else been experiencing similar trends? I am not necessarily worried yet, but this is very odd. I can't figure out what is causing this. Any thoughts???

  15. I was able to order 5. Hopefully not so many were sold as to render them lower in value. Currently selling for $130 from third party sellers on Amazon.

  16. I was going to see if anyone else had this problem and if it bothers them: New bigger sets normally come with a piece of cardboard and the instruction booklet inside a package - book doesn't get bent up. However, in smaller sets, they just toss the booklet and sticker sheet right down in there. I have had a lot of problems witht hem being bent so bad they wont stay open, the stickers coming off the sheet, pages torn, etc. Does this bother anyone else? Lego needs to find a way to keep this from happening.

  17. Any suggestions appreciated.... purchased 20+ sets form them in July....arrived 2 Months later TRASHED. Sent them photos before I even opened the box to show how damaged it was, then photos of the individually trashed sets...like ripped boxes smashed in areas. They wouldnt even work with me until I went to post office three times and finally got someone to fill out a damaged item form as they wouldnt take my word or the photo history. Finally after getting the form (was told only someone witnessing the actual damage could fill it out but they did it anyway.) Sent Steinchenwelt the form and was told I now had to sit and wait until the got an insurance claim from DHL a…

I've decided to move my Paradisa collection on to a better place - where it is loved and valued for all its ... pinkness ! As much as I would love to own every LEGO set ever made (lol) I have come to a point where I have decided I need to identify my main themes (and likes) and consolidate my collection in these areas. My Paradisa collection was part of a Westfield display lot I purchased a few years ago now so it's in pretty good nick. I would describe it as used, but not played with, no boxes, full instructions (although some keen previous owner has written some inflated prices on the front corner of each instruction in red nikko pen). There a few bits that have yellowe…

  19. Mine was crushed in shipping. They put it diagonally in a huge box with no padding at all except in the bottom under the set. Top of the box was smashed in really bad (caved in) and the set itself had some wear and all the seals were broken from the air being pushed out of the set. I am going to build it anyway, so I am not too worried about it. Anyone else have problems? I was going to see if anyone went to customer service about it.

  20. So I have been debating selling off pretty much my entire lego inventory. Baby on the way, I could use the space and the cash. I am willing to take a haircut possibly on the inventory, but don't really want to fire sale. What is the best route to bulk sell? I have talked to a few other dealers, tried craigslist etc but have had no luck. I am sure it might be easier to sell online but don't really want to deal with the shipping hassles that would come along with it so I am trying to sell it locally.

  21. We operate a small souvenir gift shop in a beach town in Michigan. The town is packed from Memorial Day thru Labor Day and the town only has a junky toy shop (with no LEGO). I've thought about adding a few display cases with individual minifigures, packs of Collectible Series minifigures, smaller sets (polybags) and the like to satisfy those parents looking to keep their kids happy. I wouldn't have room for large sealed sets, and I'm not sure the market would be there for those. Anyone have any experience or war stories to share from brick & mortar retail? Or even convention sales? I'm trying to figure out what items would be most in demand, etc. Thanks!

I left a small padded envelope for my mailman to pickup this past Wednesday. I just checked the tracking number and it only shows "shipping label created". Doesn't show any progress or that it was even picked up. Should I just assume that it just was never scanned? Maybe usps is too busy this time of year?

  24. So passwords aren't working this morning at all (even though I have the correct one). Password recovery is not even though the correct email is there. I can't log in from anywhere at all. About to call them about it but I was going to see if anyone else was having the same problem this morning.
