General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. They bought my 7888 within a few hours of it being listed, then they ignored three emails and didn't pay until I opened a nonpaying bidder case, then they sent me an extremely fishy email and I googled their Ebay username after that and found that they have a habit of saying packages didn't arrive some people say "just use signature confirmation and they go away when you tell them who signed for it" and others are like "they went straight to paypal to chargeback the payment" so now i'm wondering if I should just cancel this sale and wait for a new buyer or go out of pocket for extra shipping coverage. seeing the way that buyers are treated by ebay though…

Hi everyone! Can you all tell me why this http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=12882873 went for so much money? Just curious, that is all!

I was wondering if it is better to sell sets by them selves or to bundle them with other sametheme sets? For Example. I have a few Harry Potter polybags, Forbidden Forrest, Hagrid's hut and castle. At a monetary stand point. Would it be best to sell them individuality (when the time comes) or should I sell as a group. Or should I make small bundles such as a polybag, Forbidden Forrest, and Hagrid's Hut. If that makes sense.

Hi! i have a collection I’ve vintage Lego that I hope to sell, but I don’t even know where to begin. Many of the sets have no price guide so I have no idea what their value is. Most are in the original boxes (all opened), appear to be complete, with instructions. I’ve taken a few photos. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jerad Not sure if the moon set is complete. Also not sure if the signal set is complete, and the 939 set has had all the stickers fall off. Plus a couple of random sign pieces.

So in another thread, there is a discussion on clearance stickers. How about removing "vintage" price stickers. I recently purchased a huge lot. Including 4 Black Seas Barracudas, 3 with boxes. 2 Skulls Eye Schooners with boxes. 3 Caribbean Clippers (2 with boxes). probably 30-40 classic city and 13 classic space set with boxes. All the boxes have Toys R Us and ShopKo stickers. Do you remove them? I think it adds character to these old sets. I think it's cool seeing that TRU sold the Black Sea's Barracuda for $89.99. But is that similar to seller as seeing a clearance sticker?

I could have sworn someone already asked this before but couldn't find it. Here goes anyhow. There are hundreds of sellers on Bricklink that list individual pieces from sets for sale, and it is true that not every set appreciates in value (some even devalue), so fellow Brickvestors my question is thus. Is it possible to make a profit that at least covers the original retail cost of a set by parting it out?

This has been an extremely informative site. I have decided to try my hand at investing in a few lego sets as it seems like a fun hobby to help fund a personal collection. I found LoTR Weathertop on clearance for $20 each at my local Walmart and bought a few. I also picked up a Hulk Breakout for $35. I bought a few others but these are the main ones I have a question about. At what point is it a good idea to sell? I realize no one may no the perfect time as sets go up and down, but I would like to hear your opinions. The average price listed on this site now for either of those sets are over $50 so I could already try to make a profit, but should I expect prices to …

  8. So far, I have been selling newer sets and flipping them for cash, which is great. I have sold more popular sets through eBay (Mine Craft, Star Wars and other big sets), but the gauging of the fees sucks! Haven't tried Amazon yet, but I will once I figure the best way to handle the traffic in the future. I'm hoping for less fees, but from researching, it appears it will be the same or more (depending on certain things). Craigslist is obviously the cheapest route, but not enough exposure. You have to deal with some really special people, which can suck! Would love to sell more sets through my site, but need more exposure and with some planning, I ca…

Was hoping to get some advice from some veteran sellers. I am relatively new to collecting and probably won't begin selling much until next year. I have been logging my purchases into brickpicker and exporting to an excel spreadsheet for now. I include the sales tax in my cost of goods when I log my purchases. Is this the best way to keep track for now? I am not ready to fork over the money for quickbooks or any software like that yet. Also, I have been selling DVDs and other misc. items from around the house to get my ebay feedback up until I am ready to start selling lego. I have not sold any of these items for a profit. As long as I sell a few lego sets this ye…

Hey everyone, I'm thinking that it may be time to sell my collection. Just wanted to see if anyone has any tips like where to sell, how I could possibly sell the whole collection together, and generally anything you may have found helpful when you were selling. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I am going on about a month without any of my craigslist emails getting any responses. Does anyone have something on craigslist that I could try to reply to? I am wondering if the sellers are even getting my emails or just being douches. Most adds I respond to are around my area so I am not sure what is going on.

Good morning everyone, new to the forum here, and relatively new to the LEGO game, approx 2 years. Have a bunch of sets that are built and a bunch unbuilt. After doing some research I see that even some built sets, if you have the box, and instructions can still be worth some money. I’m just trying to get an idea if these built sets truly do retain some value, or am I just building and displaying for fun? thanks in advanced!

  14. As luck would have it I'll be in Europe during the May 4th event for Lego and have been thinking about stocking up on exclusives(assuming Lego even discounts any exclusives) that I can't get any discounts usually as a US resident. Provided that I can stock up what's the most cost effective way to ship these back home or is it unlikely that I'll be able to and it will cost me more money to ship than I'll be saving?

  15. I am considering ramping up my Bricklink selling efforts, but I am looking to get some advice first from some veterans before I take any serious plunges. Just wondering what some good strategies are, as well as what are the pitfalls to avoid. Thanks in advance!

  16. Hi all, I recently bought a bunch of used Technic sets for a good price with the intention of flipping them. I've taken them apart to clean where necessary and to make 100% sure all parts are present. Now I was wondering whether it's better to list them as assembled or not. Personally I would rather build a set myself if I buy one but I see a lot of assembled sets being sold. I guess the advantage of selling an assembled set is that the pictures look better than sorted bags but it would take extra time to rebuild them of course. What are your experiences regarding this? Do assembled sets sell faster or for more money because of the convenience factor? Or isn't it much of …

  17. I just sold a 4x4 Ltd Edition Crawler on ebay to a buyer in the Netherlands who has no feedback, and has already sent me a message saying he will pay in 2 days once his paypal account is set up. Apart from obtaining insurance on the shipping, is there anything I should be doing or worried about?

What are some strategies that you use to keep your shipping costs down? I keep as many of the boxes used to send items as I can, but sometimes, that is impossible. Also, sometimes boxes are far too big for the item that was sent. Where do you get cheap boxes that will work for your shipping needs?

I came across this listing on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-8085-Star-Wars-Freeco-Speeder-New-Sealed-Free-US-Shipping-Set-Retired-/111019548247?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 It is a Star Wars Freeco Speeder 8085 for $10,000. The description does not indicate that it was made from unobtainium or anything like that, I am just curious what the purpose of listing this would be. I realize there is a sucker born every minute but you would have to be long lost uncle from Nigeria stupid to fall for this.
