General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by Achilles,

I have a friend going overseas to Europe next month, and I was hoping to have him snag me a few sets (Namely the Star Wars Planets Series 4) - Can anyone from the region let me know what are a couple of the easiest/best stores for him to look? They will be in: Vienna, Austria Bratislava, Slovakia Budapest, Hungary In addition, other than the SW: Planets, are there any other regional exclusives I might be interested in having? Thanks in advance!

Well the time has come to sell my grand collection of classic space sets and some castle. Sets range from 1979-1992. Close to all sets have the boxes and instructions and are complete. Lightly played during that time and has been boxed up for 20+ years. These sets meant the world to me and as any brick collector knows, very difficult to part with, especially my Blacktron sets I have been putting them on this sites estimator, and have been impressed with values these sets have established for themselves. I am going through all the sets to verify that all their parts are there, so far all complete. So far i have come across duplicate sets with out boxes, …

So on Oct 31st I went crazy and ran to local Lego store to make the most of the 2x VIP points before it expired. I picked up a TB and SSD thinking their closest to EOL. Well after that I received in my email survey to let them know how they were doing and I put exceptional for everything because I didn't have any problems. I just recieved this email today. Thank you for visiting our Woodfield Mall LEGO

Anyone here shipped to Russia lately? I had a buyer for two Harry Potter sets, but eBay won't let me print the label. Might be an issue with the address. Anyone run into issues shipping there due to how the addresses are structured, or could it be something else? USPS.com won't let me print the label there either. I am worried the shipping is going to be way more than what they paid (and I am wondering how eBay came up with the estimate since they won't let me print).

I was really dreading the loss of tax free shopping at amzn that happened a few days ago in my state...as we reliably have a monthly spend with them of 1.5k or so. We bought everything...even some foods and loved prices and prime. Well son wanted swap force...and we spoil him absurdly...so wanted to buy it for him now instead of Santa. Looked locally on phone as we were heading to stores and it was 75 everywhere...65 on amzn....but now with tax and 2 days. Went to tgt as I had 6 of those $10 cards from lego buys. Remembered someone mentioning price matching amzn at tgt....never price matched in my life but gave a shot. Went to customer service and asked …

  6. Seeing this happen makes me want to return this just to teach this person a lesson. I recently bought a fire temple Ninjaco set (new) off ebay for $90. Pretty nice deal. Got here today - wrapped in shipping paper, no box, crushed all to hell, seals burst on both sides, looks like elephant used it as a seat cushion. Obviously, its still worth way more than I paid for it but I am irritated about it. Don't understand how anyone can think this is ok. Does this happen to you all a lot? I have had this happen 3 times in the last month with sets. One was luckily fine, other two were beat to hell.

Also got an email today (whether new deal of not), that if you spend $100 at the WBShop, you will get $20 off plus free shipping. Click here to go to WBShop and view LEGO items ENTER "SAVINGS" at checkout to get discount

Just got an email that they are having good sales at Smyths Toys in the UK. Looks like some Lego can be in there as well. I did not spend a ton of time in there, but maybe there are a few decent finds. Click the image or click here to visit Smyths Toys I also see they have 20% off certain Star Wars sets

  9. May be something others already know, but if giving a refund through paypal and you don't have a balance, Paypal doesn't front the money. they contact your bank and it will usually take several days. Many of you may already know this. You also cannot cancel it once it happens. I have never had a problem before. I was trying to refund someone yesterday and it is pending until thursday and though I now have money in my account, nothing can be done paypal said. Luckily it was so we could cancel a transaction and repurchase so my ebay buyer is cool. But I wanted to alert anyone who had to give a refund to an Ebay buyer. Don't want to take a chance on getting…

This is my first post on Brickpicker (hurray!), I've been lurking for a little while now. My question: does anyone know what the item number listed on the bottom of the box is used for? For example, Uruk-Hai Army set #9471 lists "Item: 4653953" above the UPC code. I'm listing a few sets on Ebay and I'm wondering if this number is important or should be included somewhere. Any replies appreciated, and thanks to everyone for such an awesome site; you've already provided me with tons of useful info.

I've bought a 8959 Claw digger off of bricklink for $19 in total including shipping. The set, though does not come with box, instructions, or stickers, but the bags are still sealed. Is it worth buying the rest separately and then sell it, or am I better off keeping this set because of this deal?

Hi, sorry for bothering with a beginners question. I started investing into Lego sets about 11 month ago in Nov. 2012. Meanwhile I have stored about 50 MISB sets with a value of about 5000 Euro. Currently I don't have any spare money to invest, so I am considering to start selling some sets and reinvest the money. I don't realy know if this is a good idea or if I should just wait for the prices to go up!? Currently I could sell the following sets with a profit > 50% 2 x 10219 Maersk Train (could sell with 105% profit) 2 x 9496 MF Zombies (could sell with 100% profit) 1 x 10193 Medieval Market Village (could sell with 80% profit) 2 x 21016 Sun…

Hi, I am new to selling lego sets and was just looking for advice. Specific Advice. I have a few 8129-1: AT-AT Walker and according to this website the average selling price right now is about 250. 1. Should I think about selling my 8129s this Christmas period? 2. If I should sale them this Christmas period what is a good date to list them? Thanks

I'm going to be I Minneapolis for work and I was wondering if it is worth it to make a special trip to the LEGO store in the Mall of America or is it just the same as any other LEGO store? I am hoping that there is something at the Mall of America store that I can't get at my store or online. You know, like a specific store exclusive or a uniquely diverse pick a brick wall. Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

I read many of you rant and rave about Lego in these forums. This site surely is a great place for all of us to vent and share knowledge and deals at the same time. I love Lego and my first toy was a Baby Rattle from the 80s. The sets have came a long way from the old 8860 Technic sports car and the 8851 Technic Excavator that you had to cut your own air tube to connect to the air pumps. I'm sure the futures models will be better for years to come. What's bothering me the most recent were the 10% coupon as well as the free promo policy in recent months. These 2 topics have been discussed on other threads in great length. I took some time talking with store man…

Here is an interesting quote from a website 5 years ago that I agree with very much and wonder what some of your thoughts are. Albeit some on here have such large collections and sell mostly misb so it takes some less time than parting out a set but for the most part arent we all limited by time and space and will find it hard to make millions selling lego. I do make a good living from reselling but do not see a bright future personnaly in Lego no retirement other than my toy stock no benefits and little time off and an ever challenging and ebay marketplace are just some of the difficulties we face... "As someone who actually does buy and sell Legos on eBay and Brickli…

If you have a Fry's near you, it's worth checking out their Lego isle. I stopped in tonight and swooped up 3 Vampire Hearses for 24.99, and 3 Mad scientist sets for 39.99. No GT's or VC's though... Nothing mind blowing, but cheaper than Amazon right right now if you don't want to risk waiting for them to go on clearance somewhere or don't get clearance sales. I'm hoping the hearse will be one of the better performing small sets from MF after EOL. It's a cool little set. As a side note, they also had one city set 4441 so I picked it up too. Retail price of course, but all the forest city stuff seems to be doing quite well. Wish I picked up more robber's hideouts…

  19. Would be nice if it did. And have an app to go with it just like EBay. Wish someone would come up with a LEGO-Bay. A site specific for LEGO sellers where we can purchase or set for auction with 5% or less fee instead of EBay 10%.

Why would you insert a listing picture with the price sticker left on the set? EBay Link Is this smart? Dumb? Stupid? Too lazy? Makes no sense to me.

I recently decided to try to sell off my Legos on bricklink and have found that the user interface is extremely hard to use. I loaded a few items just to try it out and finally received an email about someone trying to purchase my items but they are asking for a bypass number to complete their order. Any idea what they are wanting? He is from South Korea and I have no experience with international shipping. Any advice s greatly appreciated! I went nuts on recent sales and need to unload this inventory! Thanks!

So I just purchased 152lbs of LEGOs for around 4.00-5.50 a pound. My initial plan was to put them up on craigslist for 10.00 a pound and have a garage sale and sell them for 10.00 a pound. In the 152lbs I purchased there is a definite guarantee of a complete theme set of Indiana Jones(all the sets). There are also Harry Potter sets, I can see the towers for Hogwarts and just a bunch of familiar looking pieces I have seen from licensed sets. My question is, should i just sell them for 10.00 a lb and try to make a quick flip or should I take the time and try and skim through the pieces finding the Indiana Jones sets and possibly Harry Potter? It seems the used prices …

So, I have reached a point where I believe it is necessary to invest some money on a thermal label printer. So far I have been using Avery shipping labels, but I figure I can buy a printer for a good enough price that will end up saving me some money in the future. I am looking for something under $100 that's reliable and works seamlessly with eBay and Paypal. I have not started researching yet, so I figured I would ask those that have been selling for a long time if they have any particular tips.

  24. Hi,all , irecently starded selling lego on ebay but after some complete set now i have a lot of items of lego city advent calendars 2008/2009. Do you think someone may be intrested in a complete lot like for 40$? What title should i write? Thank you

  25. My son has 10 large bins of Legos to sell. He wants to sell them to collectors only. He wants them to go to a good home where he knows someone will appreciate the bricks and use them to build amazing things. He would prefer to sell to an adult Lego collector. He does not want to sell them to parents looking for large lots for kids (my son is 16). We've looked at eBay, but there is no way to politely say "collectors only." Does anyone have advice?
