General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. I was looking at the LOTR series because I was unsure as to how many sets were released and I noticed that some sets over here are way more expensive than in the US. For example 9476, in the US store it's priced at $39.99 while in Spain's store it's priced at

I sell a lot of non-lego items on ebay and have always used newspaper. Mostly because I have an almost unlimited supply of it and it's all free. I've recently started selling some of my lego investments and was wondering, is it ok to use newspaper? The reason I ask is I'm worried the the print could potentially rub off on the boxes? Anyone else use newspaper to ship, I've searched around haven't found any other info on it?

I have a few Amzn returned sets that are partially opened which I want to unload on eBay as used sets. There may be 1 or 2 bags that were opened but most of the bags are still sealed. Some of the sets are missing a few little pieces like 1x4 flats, parts of the base that nobody can see once the build is completed. I can easily replace them with pieces of different colors. But I do not feel like placing a bunch of Bricklink orders to replace something that is not visible at the end. How much of these should be disclosed in my eBay listing? Do I need to list all of the small pieces I replace with different color ? In your experience, are the used set buyers so an…

  4. I've recently been granted my sales tax certificate for resale so that I can purchase items without paying sales tax. I've found that there are some stores that this is a great savings and/or avoidance of headaches, but not all stores accept it. Here's the list that I currently have of stores that have accepted my tax certificate: Walmart Amazon Best Buy Here's the list that I've tried and they just give me funny looks (they're used to seeing educational/non-profit tax exempt forms, but not resale) Toys R Us Target Barnes & Noble KMart Does anyone else have experience with this that could add to the list or make s…

I bought a police station for 60$CAN (reg. 130$) at walmart in clearance section today. And it was the first time I see those "clearance section". And I have the feeling I was too late since the lego section was almost empty. Any know the frequency of Lego clearance at walmart? It probably vary per store. It's each month? If so, it's start the last day of the month or the first?

i have come across a case of these bytar booster packs on clearance for $1.99 each. i counted 31 in the case. i have a $10 in store coupon that would bring the cost down to $1.76/each, including tax. looking at their current value on brickpicker, and some sold listings on ebay, it looks like i should be able to sell them for $5-$7 each plus a $1.49 s/**** charge without a problem. shipping shouldn't be too much, since they can be mailed in an envelope with a stamp or two, and after fees it looks like i could pocket approx $3.50 profit/each. my question is this...is all of this work worth the approx $100 profit i will make? i am more of the buy and hold investor, and h…

  7. When you sell an item on eBay, it is great how you can print a label right from your "My eBay" page. You get it at a pretty good discounted rate, plus free delivery confirmation which is worth about 80 more cents. This is accomplished through the Pitney Bowes service. Does anybody know of a way to get similar deals like this without going through eBay? I prefer to keep using USPS because they have always been good to me, and I would like to do my part to help keep them in business. Thanks!

A buyer from New Zealand contacted me today asking if I would ship to New Zealand. The buyer has 0 feedback and has been registered on eBay since 2010. My question is should I sell it to him? What would you do?

I sold two Simpsons Houses in the same order to one buyer, and when I go to print shipping label, it shows twice the weight, but only the dimensions for one box... Will eBay print two separate shipping labels, or do they assume I'll ship both together? Is there a way I can select to do it one way or the other? If so, what do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

  11. I have had Lego as hobby all of my life, but it is only until recently that I am in the process of investing with it. I'm really new to it, and if possible I'd like to know recommended techniques to calculate the potential sell prices for custom build projects, like layouts, real life objects representations, and else. Thanks.

  12. I was able to order 5. Hopefully not so many were sold as to render them lower in value. Currently selling for $130 from third party sellers on Amazon.

So it finally happened, I sent the wrong item to one of my eBay buyers. I'm going to send the correct item to them of course, but would you ask for them to send the item back to you? And generally you would pay for shipping back? Or would you just send them a refund, minus shipping costs? It was a small item, just a minifigure (thank goodness) but was just wondering what people usually do.

I remember reading on the forum some time ago a comment that "you are not an investor until you actually sell some of your lego. Until then you are simply a collector". I have been "collecting" lego now for about 12 months. Like a lot of people I am very much focused on the larger more exclusive sets as long term investments, however, a long the way I have picked up a number of freebies with purchases, such as the elf workshop and some polybags. I also purchased some of the original minecrafts sets with a few to trying to flip some around Christmas. Anyway I decided to list some of the freebies and minecraft in the lead up to Christmas, on Ebay. It has been…

I have a $25 BN gift card and was wondering what set to get. Half of the sets are over priced and there's not a huge selection. I kind of am leaning towards the 75052 but was wondering what you guys are thinking. And I just found out the 30% Kids Club coupon you receive when you first register does not apply to Legos

  18. Pretty much not a one of my packages in the last 3 days (about 100) have or will make it there in the normal transit time. USPS is doing everything they can to destroy some order in the shipping system. All of my priority 2 day are making it in 3 and all 3 in 4. Also first class has been like 6 days. I am only telling people it will be there if they pay for priority by today. Or overnight by tomorrow.

I am curious as to where you long-timers think the best place will be the day after Christmas for sales. I live in a small market area with just one Target, two Walmarts, and a crappy low end Toys R Us (and a Kmart that ALWAYS seems to have stuff on clearance or BOGO offers). My Walmarts must have a pretty good sell through rate because I never see anything on clearance in them. Anybody have thoughts or suggestions based on previous experience? Thanks!

Gents, my mother-inlaw bought my boy a 10179 in 2009 as a gift to give him when he was older. He's now 10 and although old enough to tackle this monster ship, I believe the prudent thing to do is sell it. It hasn't been taken out of the inner brown cardboard box it came in. Still sealed. It was ship in a box, within a box. It does have a packing slip that states the item # 4495738, & description 10179 Ultimate Collector's. The seal on the inner box also has addition info. How do I go about estimating it's value? Should I open the box to see the actual lego box inside or will that hurt the value? I'm not sure if it is a first edition or not. Can you …

I have a 10th Anniversary Lego Honor Guard. It is a 13" high statue made from Legos that is given to Employees on their 10th anniversary. I would like to sell it but not sure what the value is since I have never seen one listed on Ebay. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Next week I'll be visiting my sister in Denver. My dad mentioned that there is a Lego kiosk at the Cherry Creek mall. He said they have some discontinued sets, but that the prices were high. I haven't been there yet myself to check it out. Has anyone seen this kiosk? Do they have anything worth looking at?

  25. Hi everyone, How and where do I post deals that I have for sale? I have a few exclusive sets for someone living in the L.A area. Thanks.
