General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. So I ordered the new mini and the fedex tracking shows it was delivered yesterday. Says left at front door sig not required. I have not contacted lego or fedex yet. If it was stolen off my porch I don't think they are liable anyways. I can dispute the charge on my cc but that could get me banned from LEGO Shop at Home. Anyone dealt with this before? I have had dozens of legos shipped to the house. Seems unlikely that one small box got stolen but I guess it's possible. I live in a nice area in North Raleigh. If it was stolen do I have any options? I'll have everything shipped to my office from now on.

  2. This is my 3rd time selling an item on eBay, everything was simple until now. I shipped the item on July 9th, from Mexico to Netherlands, according to the tracking number it arrived on July 18th to NLAMSA Customs (NL = Netherlands AM = Amsterdam SA = Schiphol Airport), but it has been sitting there for a while (4 bussiness days and counting). Idk what to do, fortunately my client has 704 score, so he's more experienced than I, but i'm kind of panicking right now.

  4. They bought my 7888 within a few hours of it being listed, then they ignored three emails and didn't pay until I opened a nonpaying bidder case, then they sent me an extremely fishy email and I googled their Ebay username after that and found that they have a habit of saying packages didn't arrive some people say "just use signature confirmation and they go away when you tell them who signed for it" and others are like "they went straight to paypal to chargeback the payment" so now i'm wondering if I should just cancel this sale and wait for a new buyer or go out of pocket for extra shipping coverage. seeing the way that buyers are treated by ebay though…

I sold a 4203. The buyer sent me a note asking about a "slice that runs halfway across the bottom flat side of the box". Having bought this a long time ago at WM on clearance and it being boxed since then I asked for a picture of the issue. He sent a picture showing this. In his own words he said " It's kinda hard to tell, but it doesn't look like it pierced through all the way to the inside of the box. Almost almost, but not quite. I think." Seeing the picture it seems someone may have used a blade to open up the Lego case to stock it originally. It does not look pierced. Having it in hand he should know if it is or isn't pierced. Anyway in my listings I always state... …

I'm considering opening a Bill Me Later account to take advantage of the current promotion running where you get $10 ebay bucks credit and 50% more in ebay bucks on that purchase. I would pay it off immediately so this is only to take advantage of the promotion. A few questions for anyone that has used Bill Me Later before. Is this deal a good one or do they offer better? What is your experience with BML? Do you close your account after paying it off or do you leave it open? Any potential pitfalls to avoid? Thanks.

I'm going to take a few moments to take a page out of my co-worker's book. He is a blunt man, and generally if something is wrong in the office, he sends out an email and copies everyone on it calling out whatever is being done (like not filling the coffee pot) and whoever is doing it. Not the best way to go about things, but results are there. He signs them "Crotchety Old Man" (hes 29) So here is my Crotchety Old man Post: A few things I want to put out there. These are facts IMO (clashes I know) that some people should know. I think people throw around silly numbers and comparisons way too much. You can say "Well we are free to think this - its not hur…

  9. I came across a good deal on four Sealed Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets (2002) Sets and was wondering if there would be any benefit in holding onto them for a bit longer. Another question do you think it would be better to sell them separately or in a lot together? The Four sets are , 4726 - Quidditch Practice (Sealed) 4729 - Dumbledore's Office (Sealed) 4731 - Dobby's Release (Sealed) 4735 - Slytherin (Sealed) Thanks,

  10. I am looking to make several orders next month and was wondering the best options to buy and if Lego will flag me for making more than 1 order a day or one every day for a couple of weeks. I was planning on picking up the T1, Sopwith, Horizen, Pet shop, and at least one mini cooper. Have any of you made multiple orders in one day?

I've gotten back in the game over the last month and have been stocking up and getting ready to sell. Last night I inventoried my boxed sets and got them priced in my BL store. Once I get the open sets verified I will list those and open the store. Then the tedious task of inventory and listing loose parts. Sadly my BL inventory was wiped out because of 180+ days of inactivity. My wife asked what I plan on doing with the money I get. I think she thinks that this is a one off deal. What I would really like to do is get a nice streamline store going. Nothing crazy but something fun to occupy my down time. My inventory is all over the place as it was mostly sets…

Hello, new guy here. I've been a lurker and I registered a while back but haven't really been active. I had luck with one set, Cloud Cuckoo. I parted it out and sold it (a single set) on eBay. My goal is to slowly (very slowly) turn $300-400 into a full-fledged business. How can I do this? I have full-time availability. Here are my questions: What is the research process for picking a set? That is, do I pick a random set and part it all out on paper, or is there a way to narrow down my selections first to say, 5 or 10 sets and do the math from there? How do I part out a set? My thinking is each minifig separately plus the set pieces. Maybe it'd be better to …

  14. Hello fellow brickheads! My wife and I are approaching our 20th anniversary and we've come to the conclusion that kids are not in the cards for us. Why would I reveal something so personal in my first post on this site? Of course, it's because I'm about to sell off my precious collection that's doing nothing but taking up space. I'm thinking of ripping off the band-aid quickly by selling each theme collection at once, and space is by far the majority of my collection (my brickfolio isn't done yet, I'm still adding). All sets are used, most are 100% complete (of course I would detail which ones aren't), I have no original boxes, and some have no printed instructi…

  15. I received the email below from Amazon today. I'm sure those of you who sell on Amazon will also receive this email, but in case you somehow missed it, or were thinking about selling on Amazon, here it is. Bulletpoint #2 pretty much rules me out (I just don't sell that much), which is too bad, as I was planning on ramping up for the holidays on Amazon. I pretty much just have ebay and CL now. Hello from Amazon Services, To maintain a great customer experience this holiday season, we are announcing the holiday selling guidelines for the Toys & Games store. Effective November 18, 2014, only sellers who meet the following criteria will be eligible to se…

Hey All, I am recently getting back into the buying/ selling game. I came across a Lego collection that looks like a good opportunity. I would appreciate any thoughts. I haven't physically seen it yet and the seller only has a picture of what is included. Everything is stated to be used and complete. I will check if I get to see it, of course. The lot includes many of the Indiana Jones sets, Queen Anne ship, some older Star wars sets (Tie bomber, Older Sail barge) as well as the Eiffel Tower. The seller is thinking 1k for the sets and 500 for the tower. I know the tower used can go for 700. Without verifying the lot I was initially thinking 1k for…

  18. Hello. After recently having a clear out in the house (nightmare!) amongst the crates upon crates of lego i used to own when i was younger I have come across set 6339 space shuttle with launch pad. Now after looking through ebay etc i haven't really had much luck in finding out how much it is worth Everything is in the box as most of it is actually still made up, the instructions are there as well. The box itself has seen slightly better days but is in no way overly damaged or falling apart. Just wondering if anyone here could give me some direction as to how much this is worth as I'd like to sell and give someone else the oppotunity with more time…

  19. So this morning I got a very official looking email from paypal using my first and last name. Said my account was limited due to suspicious activity and until I logged in and confirmed my account that it would be frozen. I of course didn't click the link and went directly to Paypal's site. Everything was normal. Now, I consider myself very internet savvy and also take internet security further than most. And this one had me going due to it being very well done and targeted specifically at me. I fear that due to the recent ebay hack this will become pretty common. so here is a heads up to be vigilant and if you receive any paypal phishing emails you can forwar…

  20. (Not sure if this is the right place for this. Apologies if it's not.) The Investor Phase: If you have savings, a decent job and a credit card that you don't need to pay off for a year, it's VERY VERY EASY to do this part. You just check various places every day for deals and buy buy buy!!! The lack of space in my house caused by stored Lego and my large credit card bill (0% interest until this October) are testament to this! Like most BrickPickers I'm aware of, my approach was generally to buy on 30% discount or more and get at least one of each set for my personal collection and then multiples of sets I thought would do well at EOL. Despite not…

I have a bunch of Chima Speedorz sets coming in. I want to sell them, but, usually I just sell polybags and minifigs. I had some questions about shipping speedorz. Does first class in a padded mailer work usually or will that risk damaging them? Shipping in boxes seems like it might be cost prohibitive. How is anyone else shipping them and what are you getting charged for shipping? Any help is appreciated....thanks in advance.

  23. What would you do if you sold an old set that was still sealed and the buyer receiving the set complains about missing parts? Since you did not open the set, you cannot tell if he is making up something or not. And it is known that there ARE factory sealed sets missing parts. So, do you address the issue of potentially missing parts in a sealed set in the product description already to be "sure" no one can complain afterwards? Or does LEGO keep parts even for old sets ready at the customer service long enough after EOL to serve those who bought some years after EOL anyway? Then there would of course not really be a problem with the missing parts... Because you…

Hi I am still new to Lego investing and the forums , and would like to get some general knowledge on where and how to start. Where does one find 40% or more of a discount on Lego sets in Canada? Does anyone know when do real clearances on Lego sets (Like 40% or more) start showing up in Wal-marts , Targets and Real Canadian super stores? Which months do you think are the best for Lego clearance hunting? June July or August? how often should I check? (do not drive as of yet but working on it) Always end up buying Lego sets ( for investing) at U.S retail prices. I do go to North Dakota once a month but only have acc…

Hey, is there a way to print your bricklink want list without images? I just want to print a checklist without the images. I don't see the option or I may be just blind.
