General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by Lateral-G,

I found another site selling Legos that sent the BS meter pegging... HomBZ.com They have the Maersk train for $87 (as well as Diagon Alleyand The Pet Shop for $99 each). So I thought "hmmmmm, let's see..." Put the order in then they direct you to paypal for payment. OK....so I see if the vendor is 'verified' but can't find anywhere on paypal where that info is. No way will I send money unless they are verified. The website has a phone number so I call ((951) 200-4263?) I get a recorded message...no one there, blah blah blah...leave a message. BS meter pegging even more. I look at the "invoice" the sent me via email Here's the address they ship from…

Any way to find a specific list of the money back deals offered by Honey? I find I am coming across them by accident when I pull up sets for finding the info on here but havent been able to find a running list of deals on their site. Any help appreciated

Hi everyone, I'm very new to all this. I was thinking the other day as I bought my second investment set (Grand Emporium) When I'm ready to sell something and I've never sold on Ebay before, how do I set it up so people won't shy away from me the minute they realize I don't have a rating. I started an Instagram page to show people how much I love this stuff. Also that I'm just your average family man. @brickcrazy Also, whats stopping someone from claiming I sent them an open product or something? And scamming me?!?! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

  4. Primarily out of curiosity I wanted to start a thread to find out how competitive the local secondhand market is in some of the areas that you guys patrol. A few of you have probably heard me whine a bit about my area (Austin TX) being a pain in the butt and it truly is. Since I've started using Craigslist I've noticed that if anything lego finds its way on there at an even remotely good price, its gone within a few hours, and almost every time I've gone to pickup or view sets or lots, I've been told by the owner that someone else either inquired immediately after me, or attempted to buy everything they had in one fell swoop, leading me to believe there's some big f…

  5. I have had Lego as hobby all of my life, but it is only until recently that I am in the process of investing with it. I'm really new to it, and if possible I'd like to know recommended techniques to calculate the potential sell prices for custom build projects, like layouts, real life objects representations, and else. Thanks.

  7. So I was wondering how everyone is taking care of this - Its one of the few things I haven't really developed a "system" for. Do most of you just calculate your taxes at the end of the year and just pay it? Do you take a certain amount out of each of your sales to stow away? I was thinking about just withdrawing 30% each time I withdraw from Paypal to a Savings account so I make sure I have money on hand. I was curious if others do it this way - or do you do more? Less? Obviously its tough to know exactly what you will pay unless you are putting it straight into a tax calc - which maybe thats what people do?

  8. Non-US buyers with US shipping addresses keep trying to buy my stuff on Bricklink. I can't even tell they are non-US until they send me a payment and I notice my paypal fees are 1% higher. I have notes in my shop that these payments will be refunded and I deal with US customers only, but they keep trying and I keep refunding and it keeps taking my inventory out of sale until I go and cancel the order. It's getting annoying. Is there anyway to block that from within paypal so I can't even accept those or turn off the auto payment accept so I can look through each one and approve it first?

  9. Started by trstnkn,

I've been thinking about this as I have a 6, 4 and 2 year old. After seeing kingfishe2's post on Customer Mapping (which was a great idea, btw), I thought I would start a topic on how you involve your kids. Good tasks for young kids - sorting by color (my 4-year old is crazy good at this and likes it), using the visual dictionaries to put mini figures together correctly (my 6-year old has mini figures memorized like an encyclopedia), sorting built pieces by manuals (my 6-year old can take manuals and place them out and find partially built pieces to match the set), building to completion (my 6-year old is extremely accurate, so I will often watch him as I build …

I'm going to be selling some incomplete sets soon where I took out the minifigs. What's the best practice in packing and shipping these to a buyer? Could I just throw the original bags into a padded mailer or a small box and be done with it? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I am new to selling lego. I am planning to sell some of my lego star wars collection on ebay but I need advice. For example, do you ship the set disassembled? If disassembled, do you sort the pieces or is it just a giant pile of bricks? Could you please help me.

  12. I just started to ship my minifigures on eBay and when I was about to print out the shipping label, I found out that it costed $1.69 for an envelope, that held less than an ounce of Legos inside. I thought this was way over the top, so I put a "Forever" stamp on it and shipped it out. A couple days later, I received the envelope back in the mail with an arrow to the stamps and the words "Incorrect Postage, add $0.20", so the next morning, I sent it out with the extra $0.20 on it. I received it back today, so I decided to take the envelope to the Post Office and ask them about it. The lady at the desk said that it qualified as a package since it was more than 1/4 inch thic…

So, living in North Jersey, I never have much success at finding any steep discounts on Lego sets. My best bets are usually Targets and Kmarts. However, in the town next to me there is a little toy shop called Tons of Toys. I had not gone in it until yesterday mainly due to their hours. Well, when I went in, I was utterly blown away. This store has the BEST selection of Legos I have ever seen outside of the Lego Store and TRU. Multiple Unimogs, Weathertops, etc. If it's not an exclusive they have it! Now, here's the best part. The sets are all marked at retail but the store ALWAYS puts coupons in the weekly newspapers. These coupons are ALWAYS at least 15% off any pur…

Thought a lot of you would find this interesting. This was a deal offer sheet from over a decade ago when I lived in Florida. 1 glaring set shows up on there for sure. The back story on this deal was these prices were all high at the time when it was offered to us. Also crazy how times have changed in the fact these quantities of deals do not surface anymore. Shows you how different the LEGO market was as compared to now. Sep 24, 2003 To me Sep 24, 2003 Hi, All new, retail boxes. Let us know if you have an interest, you can mix. Thanks! How long do you wait to sell a product? Are there any unique strategies? Sorry if something similar has been posted already, there have been quite a few polls lately.

  17. This is my 3rd time selling an item on eBay, everything was simple until now. I shipped the item on July 9th, from Mexico to Netherlands, according to the tracking number it arrived on July 18th to NLAMSA Customs (NL = Netherlands AM = Amsterdam SA = Schiphol Airport), but it has been sitting there for a while (4 bussiness days and counting). Idk what to do, fortunately my client has 704 score, so he's more experienced than I, but i'm kind of panicking right now.

First time posting on here after picking up a few star wars sets and of course the tumbler. Maybe this has been asked countless times already. But just wondering how long you hold a set for or what triggers you to sell or what ever the lingo is. flip is it?

  19. I picked up a couple 40220 - Mini London Bus over the weekend that I was hoping to flip on Bricklink, but apparently the set is still pending approval. I'm relatively new to this, so I've never watched for a brand new set on Bricklink before. How long does it usually take for them to approve the set so I can list my items?

With the Monster Fighter series being waved out at walmart I wonder when the next price drop on the clearances will be? Everything is around 30% off right now. Will they move them down within the next week, and to what amount? What are your expectations and past experiences?

Hi there, I have a large (19 inch tall) Lego figure that I wish to sell. As far as I am aware they have never been sold, they are only acquired as a retailer stocking lego - they are used for store merchandising. Any idea how rare this is and how much it would be worth? Thanks

My son has sadly outgrown his Lego collection. We have listed it on eBay but it's not having much interest. I'm having people offer me silly amounts like £200 but knowing how much I paid for it I cannot let it go for such a low price. Any idea how much I could get for it? I will put the eBay listing number in the comments if anyone could help me.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas. I was just curious to hear how much legos everyone sold this Christmas. As for myself, I didn't start my listings on ebay until Dec.2...believe it or not, from Dec. 2- 25, I sold over 40k! I maxed out my account, and had to start using my girlfriend's account. Ebay gave her an increase on what she can sell per month, from 25k to 75k, because they noticed her selling so much. lol I sold mostly harry potter, friends, excavators, fire brigades.. The reason for me selling so much this month, is because I'm raising money to bet on a UFC fight on Dec.28 (Chris Weidman) I'm about 95% sure Chris will win the fight. Out o…

Hey Guys its DeadlyGaming here and I wanted to ask you guys a question. How much should I sell my legos for? I have about 65grand-95grand legos pieces. Which in all probably has cost me 10k-15k. There is probably 1000-1500 sets too. Most of them are used too. Please tell me what you think I should sell them for. -DeadlyGaming
