Galeria has it in stock as well again but the maximum quantity per order is 1. I would really like to know if TLG is enforcing the limits or if it was their own idea. ..

Techincally means nothing. The rumour was that one more production run was going to be produced to coincide with the release of the Ghostbusters Headquarters. Two UK stores (Asda, Tescos) had received small quantities but both have sold out again. Currently only LEGO Shop at Home have stock in this country. The seal code listed by Nick is from last year and the GBHQ wasn't released until the start of the month so the rumour is still feasible. That said I think it nothing more than a production shortage that follows every Christmas and expect the set to make a full return at all retailers within the coming weeks. I still see Ecto-1 retiring around June to coincide with the release of the new GB set(s)

That's interesting. Recently made new batch, available in the B&M Lego stores, but sold out already again at the LEGO Shop at Home where it says:  Out of stock, expected ship date 4 Feb 2016

I just don't see any way that this isn't going to be around at least all year to go with the GBHQ. Shame too, as this was going to be better than the Delorean. Now I am just hoping it isn't the next exo or mc microworld.

Agree.  I was loading up on these early last year but now don't feel compelled to buy anymore.

You might want to prepare yourself for an 'unexpected' retirement then.

  • Ideas sets haven't previously passed the 2 year production cycle
  • Ideas and Ghostbusters are two separate themes so I don't consider them dependent on each other being in production
  • A rumour suggests a new Ecto will be released in June based on the film with the female characters

Although the Ghostbusters HQ references the Ecto-1 in its description, modulars will display retired sets on the rear of its boxes so I don't see this being a factor.

I hit my target on Ecto 1s long ago when I thought they were retiring last year. Consider me prepared. I am still not sure what the 2016 Ecto-1 and characters has to do with the 1984 characters and HQ. Is there some tear in Lego space-time?

I certainly wouldn't see Lego having two Ecto's in production at the same time. 21108 has been in production long enough for people to have picked up a copy. The minifigures can now be obtained from purchasing the Headquarters and with the impending 2016 movie tie in release newcomers would still be able to purchase an Ecto and male figures from retailers even if 21108 is retired.

Assuming the new set(s) is centered around the car you would think Lego wouldn't want the Ideas set to impact on sales. It makes logical sense to retire Ecto-1 prior to June.

I bought a few, built one and like it. Was tempted to load up more until i realised too many people are doing the same sfter seeing Delorean become amongst the best performers in recent years.

So instead, i dumped my investment sets during last christmas at an ok profit.

right - nobody was hoarding the Delorean which was discounted 20% for the majority of its life from all retailers, unlike the ecto-1 which has never been discounted other than jet.com fiasco.  stay away from ecto-1 - its a total loser...

the idea that ANY lego set is not being hoarded is amusing.

While I don't agree with it being a total loser it cannot be compared to the Delorean. Ecto-1 will be hoarded in far greater quantities, mainly on the back of 21103's success. I don't think many realized just how popular the Delorean would be. It's nuts to think how a set that was pretty much always discounted came to the lofty heights it did last year.

And... I do not think there were that many people desperately waiting for the Delorean to retire like now with Ecto-1.
