General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by jerryherb,

It appears that sellers are getting scammed lately by buyers who use hotels as their shipping address claiming the package was not received by the front desk and requesting replacements/refunds/opening AZ cases that sellers are bound to lose. if you have an amazon seller account you should be able to access the link below, if you dont you MAY be able to get it as well: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=225779&ref_=im_sf_C_225779_wsfqs_home&sortBy=helpful it starts with the following: Posted on: 16 Oct, 2014 11:10 PM …

Hi there, I'm realizing that I have more legos than space, and am wanting to dispose of a fair number of sets, maybe about 30-50, without having to list them all. What's the best way people have found to do that? Craigslist? D

Sorry I tried to search "ebay" and "paypaI" in search box but no results. I sold a set on ebay (internationally) two days ago, and I saw that ebay and paypal buyer's adress are different. He doesn't reply to my messages on any of the email adress (I already had problems with people of the same country, it took me 1 week to have an answer so now I'm anticipating). Where am I supposed to ship the item to have paypal insurance ? Ebay or Paypal ? I fear that if I ship to his ebay adress, and it's not the good one, the package may be lost and I could do nothing. On the other hand, if the paypal adress isn't his actual adress, he may agrue that I did not s…

I was out running errands and stopped into one of our cities many thrift stores yesterday and in the toy section I saw 5 big bags of Lego sitting there. I have found some Lego recently but nothing like this. So for a grand total of 27.32(give or take a few pennies) I walked out with what is at least 30-35 pounds of the good stuff. I was absolutely stoked! I could tell right off the bat that there was plenty of star wars as well as one bag that had been specifically sorted to have town pieces in it. This is going to take me a while to sift through but based on the minifigs I have found thus far and certain unique parts I have thus far determined that the follo…

Today I went to the Lego Store! Spent 2 hours at the Pick a Brick Wall trying to fit pieces into cups. ;-) Scored a Large Pick a Brick and Small Pick a Brick cup for a total of $26 including tax. In it were over 1000 pieces which comes out to be $0.025 per piece!!! I need them to make the 10189 Taj Mahal through the method of Bricklinking. Learned from the Lego employee that they (the employees of Lego) are NOT allowed to buy Legos to sell them later on since Lego employees were buying all the sets (he said in particular the Green Grocer) once they heard that they wouldn't be getting any more shipments of it. Apparently Lego employees would buy all of them...then se…

There are a few LEGO stores within a few hour radius of me (one just opened yesterday) and I've never visited any of them. Is there any reason to visit one of these for special deals or promotions or anything? Basically, am I missing out on anything other than "the experience" by not going to these stores? Or am I better off just continuing to order everything online? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Brickpicker Forum mobile app

  7. Recently, I bought a ucs set from a seller on ebay. It cost me almost 500 dollars. He shipped it usps priority mail with a tracking number, which i checked twice a day, of course. Everything looked good until it said out for delivery, and i waited, and it never arrived, and then it said package delivered. Well, long story short, the idiot mailman delivered it to the wrong address. My neighbor is an honest and decent fellow, so he brought it to me. Two days after the usps claimed i received it on my front porch. Now, what happens next time they screw up, and my other neighbor decides to keep my lego set? Is the seller going to refund my money? Is the usps going to reimburs…

So I have been considering making a trip to some of the stores in my region that I've never been to that are far away. The farthest one is about 2.5 hours away, so stopping at every store would make this a day long trip. I have a hybrid that gets 45-50 mpg on the highway and my route would be V shaped taking one highway north and returning through another highway that will bring me southeast and eventually end in my hometown. I am in the process of locating every Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Toys R Us on my route. I've located over 20 stores on the route so far. The costs are my time, fuel, and the wear on the vehicle. The risk is that I strike out and get nothing fo…

Just a heads up. Barnes & Noble sent out 20% off one item coupons to all those with a membership this morning. They are good through the 14th. Stack those on top of any sales + 10% membership discount and you can get a pretty decent discount.

I found a listing on Craigslist for the Taj Mahal (10189) going for $450 obo in San Diego. If anyone lives around here, this might be a good deal. I might've went for it if I wasn't in the middle of buying a house right now. Maybe some lucky member here is able to get their hands on this set. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/tag/3580654668.html

  11. I am shipping an architecture set. Although it is quite heavy, the box is about 12 by 15 inches. I know that UPS seems to be cheaper on an oversize box , but how about where the box isn't huge, just heavy. any ideas which shipper is cheaper? Who appears to be cheaper on heavy items. Thanx for any info

I've been buying online for years now from all of the big LEGO dealers (you know the companies I'm talking about) and never seemed to have problems with damaged boxes. Seems as of late no matter where I order from the Lego boxes are poorly packed and then crushed by the shipper. Doesn't seem like there is any care in packaging anymore. They throw them into a shipping box that is too big and don't use proper packing materials and then the shipping company tosses them around and by the time they arrive the Lego boxes are crushed. Anyone else having similar problems?

I was really dreading the loss of tax free shopping at amzn that happened a few days ago in my state...as we reliably have a monthly spend with them of 1.5k or so. We bought everything...even some foods and loved prices and prime. Well son wanted swap force...and we spoil him absurdly...so wanted to buy it for him now instead of Santa. Looked locally on phone as we were heading to stores and it was 75 everywhere...65 on amzn....but now with tax and 2 days. Went to tgt as I had 6 of those $10 cards from lego buys. Remembered someone mentioning price matching amzn at tgt....never price matched in my life but gave a shot. Went to customer service and asked …

  14. In the "What Lego set did you buy today?" thread, I mentioned a lot I got over on Shop Goodwill, and how my bulk lot was confused with another bulk lot (that ended at the same time). My lot was for 35 lbs for $225 and the other lot was 31 lbs for $111. I suspect that my lot has a Market Street modular in it. When I received the lot yesterday, I went through it and discovered I got the 31 lbs lot. I contacted Goodwill today, and they mentioned that the other buy hadn't received the lot yet. This afternoon, Goodwill contacted me and told me first, that I did receive the correct lot, and they just misweighed it - they'd be willing to refund me a small amount for the mista…

  15. I would have thought that assembling them to take a picture for Ebay would be the way to go but I'm seeing that some people think this is a big no no. If you sell new minifigures on ebay what do you recommend? Assembled? Unassembled? Assemble for the photo then break down afterwards? It seems like such a minute detail but I want to get this right. I know there'll be some for one way and some for another - I just want to get an idea of the majority. Thanks! Oh - and if it has accessories - bagged seperately or with the minifig? Its all so complicated!

I did a quick search and didn't come up with much info. If I missed a thread or topic please point me to that. Anyway, I was finally going to try going through paypal for shipping. This will be a transaction outside of ebay (making a trade). I would like to ship via first class since I am just shipping 2 figures. i heard you get free tracking if you pay online too, is that true? Now do I just go through paypal's site, enter the recipient, pick first class then pay?

We are having a garage sale this weekend and I thought of putting some sets out. I know people go to these looking for deals. Is it worth the time since the sets I want to sale would be $50-100 each. Just curious if anyone has had good luck selling unopened sets at a garage sale.

Found a used bulk lot for sale locally, that I am interested in but the price is kinda steep. In the bottom right corner of one of the tubs in their post I see what looks like a black ship hull. The only set I know of with this black hull piece is the Black Pearl set. If this bulk lot potentially contains a Black Pearl then it is definitely worth it. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of any other sets this piece could possibly be from first before buying.

  20. So, lets pretend here for just a moment that one of the members here has a wife that is simply wonderful and wanted to surprise her husband with a birthday gift of a Lego Technic Unimog to have for himself. Let us also pretend that this item arrived from Lego with a different person's payment info on the invoice and that, upon inquiry, said wife purchased the item for cheap from ebay. Not that any of this has nor will ever happen to one of the members here, but just roll with me ok? Now, in that unfortunate event, what exactly would one say to the offending seller? Yeah, the person would want to send a well worded message saying you %$#@*@% pig! How could you do this?!…

  21. Primarily out of curiosity I wanted to start a thread to find out how competitive the local secondhand market is in some of the areas that you guys patrol. A few of you have probably heard me whine a bit about my area (Austin TX) being a pain in the butt and it truly is. Since I've started using Craigslist I've noticed that if anything lego finds its way on there at an even remotely good price, its gone within a few hours, and almost every time I've gone to pickup or view sets or lots, I've been told by the owner that someone else either inquired immediately after me, or attempted to buy everything they had in one fell swoop, leading me to believe there's some big f…

  23. I thought I'd start this thread as a collection of examples of offering great customer service as an Ebay seller. Share a time when you were the seller or the buyer of an item when an ebay seller went above and beyond when they didn't have to.

  24. I was going to see if anyone else had this problem and if it bothers them: New bigger sets normally come with a piece of cardboard and the instruction booklet inside a package - book doesn't get bent up. However, in smaller sets, they just toss the booklet and sticker sheet right down in there. I have had a lot of problems witht hem being bent so bad they wont stay open, the stickers coming off the sheet, pages torn, etc. Does this bother anyone else? Lego needs to find a way to keep this from happening.

  25. Long story short, my wife and I are moving across the country and the amount of Lego I have is enough for a small truck...basically way too much to realistically take and the money can certainly help with moving costs. We won't be doing this until early next year, fortunately. I have always collected (aka hoarded) various sets and have never sold anything. Are there any suggestions / ideas / advice of offloading a lot of this stuff, sooner than later? I really don't have the desire to play the ebay/amazon game and even if I broke even on stuff, I'm fine; it's more of a matter of getting it out of here than trying to make profits at this point. I can ta…
