Star Wars May the 4th Lego Specials Start Tonight

Well I bought the Assault on Hoth set tonight and compared it to the new Bat Cave that I bought a few days ago. No comparison really. The Assault on Hoth should have been a $219.99 set at most...without the UCS tag. While the set is not as bad as I originally thought, there are just too many other intriguing sets out there to recommend this set.

The completist side of you must have won, I was almost sure you were going to pass on this one.

I guess too many hard core AFOL-SW's were seduced by May the 4th promotions and bought in despite reason telling them otherwise.

looking at the bright side, maybe sale number on AOH will be so bad that next May the 4th it'll be the one hitting 50% off as the 'Hey! We got a big discount for a UCS set!' crazy event. Then that Christmas, a lot of kids will be super lucky to get a good big play set or even multiple copies to build a real Hoth base.

I know everyone complains about AOH, but when I was talking with the employees I know at my local Lego store today they said that the set has been flying off the shelves. We watched as a kid talked their parent into buying it for them, and the employee said that has how it has been kid and parent repeatedly.

yeah I agree completely.  It is as Spock said "fascinating" to watch everyone on here.

Oh the set is garbage, oh it is over priced, oh I'll get it at 30 percent off, oh it will go the way of the b wing, and on and on and on

that is obviously the sentiment of most of this community (not me I like it)

that being said it STILL IS #2 seller on Shop at Home day after day

I think this set is a long term winner and I am a proud owner of one

to each his own

If a UCS Star Wars set is struggling to be in top 10 seller list on THE WEEK OF its release, then I have more pressing things to worry about than the design of the set. :drag:

well I am just saying if the set is the perceived garbage that most people here tout it to be, and no one was buying the thing except yours truly, then no, it may not be in the top 10.

I think this site is not representative of all individuals who purchase Lego.  Yes this site is an important constituency but it is not a reflective view of every consumer by any means.

I think if you bounce the collective feeling of the members of this site and put that against sales data at Lego one would find very different results.

In the UK AoH has stayed in number 8 on the daily lists all week behind all other Star Wars exclusives and the MF which has been on sale at Amazon £24 cheaper than the LEGO Shop at Home offer last weekend.

That's not great for release week.

Honestly for what I thought was a pretty poor promo those FO troopers are going for a good penny.  Leaving Freeze and a lot of other SW figs in the dust.
Buying wisely at LEGO Shop at Home after the discount, double VIP and poly you can actually work out some good deals.

The 30602 First Order Stormtrooper is nothing special and therefore easily blends in with the regular version. That's why this FO Stormtrooper lends itself to armybuilding opposed to Mr. Freeze, Admiral Yularen and other named promotional minigures.

Pretty much. I have every UCS set and I will always buy them when they come out. Honestly, this set has little bang for your buck and while it might have some early sales because it is new, over time, it will settle down to a poor to average seller IMO.

As a UCS completionist i will end up getting it at some point.  But I'm not in any rush and I'm certain this will end up with a reasonable discount to shift units.

The technic porsche that's coming in June however, is a definite day one purchase for me. Hell I'd happily pay for my pre order right now for that set.

That's how i expect to feel about every Star Wars UCS set at release but this one just doesn't do it.

Totally agree with this!

I have a feeling they have heard the complaints and will never produce an inferior UCS set again.

I think the only way they will never produce a UCS set that adult collectors consider inferior (careful choice of words there!) is if the sales numbers on this set absolutely suck and they have to start discounting the set to get rid of large boxes sitting on shelves at retailers everywhere. Money talks.

LEGO also listens to their fans.  The negative buzz about this set was all over Brickset and Eurobricks and many LEGO designers and employees read the forums.  I will be very surprised another STAR WARS playset is called a UCS set...unless it is outstanding.

True, the Porsche 911 set was surely a response to demand from AFOL´s for a big supercar with a proper gearbox. Now that it´s done, some are complaining about the price or llack of innovation, so maybe they should just focus on rehashing existing sets as they can´t seem to win!

It does show that they do listen so keep suggesting things you would like and you never know, that UCS Leia in a bikini scale model might be round the corner - or they might to Jar Jar!

here is an interesting exchange from September 5, 2014 looks like jais was dead on in his comment.  It also ties with the comment that I still cannot find about Lego saying they want all sets to be play sets that either happened or I dreamed.  Do not be surprised if there is more play sets.

stephen_rockefeller:

UCS and playset.......not synonymous.

jaisonline:
Currently, yes. Tomorrow? Not so sure.
Lego has been acting more and more like a typical action figure & doll company.
It looks like we are seeing more UCS badges slapped on playable sets. The last 2 UCS sets (including the Salve 1) have ample playability so why not release a playset in the near future.
Then again, who knows.
