Angry Birds 2016

This theme has almost been universally bashed. Perhaps I've had too much festive vino but I think it will do well over the next 24 months. The ebay sold prices are hovering around RRP for some sets (even slightly above), and there are not many sellers on Amazon.

If Lego produced/retired the theme 5 years earlier it would be gold. For many the game will be an iconic and pioneer of tablet gaming.

Oh, and remember there's a 10 year anniversary/sequel film coming in 2019.

Now, where's that vino...

I picked up two of the piggy pirate ships when they were dirt cheap and have been keeping an eye on prices.

At the moment the best way to make any money seems to be to part out the figs then either add parts to my building inventory or bricklink them.

I've not yet joined Bricklink, what's the scam rate like compared to eBay? I ask as I went to an auction yesterday and bought a lot of random sets in damaged boxes which I think are ex Argos and ex Littlewoods stock as they seem to all have catalogue number stickers. I'll need to look through them all and see what's there and what's missing. From what I see, about 25% is Angry Birds and the rest is mostly Super Heroes. I got the whole lot for an absolute song and should clean up after parting out. I've not itemised on "What LEGO set did you buy today?" as I've no clue whats there until I unwrap the 2 pallets. I was actually after vintage Teddy Bears and this lot suddenly appeared that wasn't in the catalogue.

Put it this way. I've been scammed more by sellers than buyers on bricklink lol.

Not saying they will be gold, but if anyone is sitting on, let's say a 30 to 40% buy-in discount, they will make good money in 12 to 24 months.

I think the 'King of Turds' crown is better suited to another theme.

I have my doubts. Parting out the sets that went to 50% plus freebies at SAH or 70% on Amazon, SMyths etc etc is likely to be why the seller count is going down. We need to see how things are after Xmas.

I´ll say that at present Secret Marketplace and Adventure Camp Treehouse have been way better bets for 50% off SAH sets than AB have or ever will be.

Yes Lego were years late to the AB party, but have you seen how many DIY Lego Angry Birds You Tube videos there are?

There always is a genuine demand for video game merchandise, and Angry Birds was massive. Rovio are investing in a 2019 movie, so they think there is still enough interest.

In years to come Nostalgia can also do strange things.

All I'm saying is that it's way too early to write AB off.

The best thing that could happen is if there is was revival and Lego didn´t have the licence or don´t want to take it.

Went into a TRU today that's only been open 2 months and they had a stack of Piggy Race Cars on the shelf. Angry Birds will never die.

It´ll die when TRU dies.

They managed to clear Escort Girls and Nexo so a good 70% off sale should exterminate the birds.

Unfortunately I don't think 70% off would make these sets worth buying.

Whereas the nexo at 50+% paid off nicely for me. Sold 2 fortrexs and 1 Knighton castle I bought in run up to xmas for above rrp

So I will confess I felt I made a mistake and bought a lot of these sets off with as little as 50% off, some as much as 80% off but probably a 55% average

I have sold most of them now at an ROI of 50-100% which ain't bad for a 6 month hold on what I felt was a mistake

Best performer 75824

I think given another year the sets will do well. If you got at 75% off you will do great

I'll defend the Birds. Give them time and I think they will out-perform other sets. The next movie will help too, as long as there are no more sets produced.

Not gonna happen. Have you not seen the discounts on these on Amazon at the moment?

  • Cheapest Plane Attack at RRP.
  • Pig City Teardown at around RRP.
  • King Pig's Castle at RRP.
  • Piggy Car Escape above RRP.

Granted that these are struggling:

  • Egg Heist below RRP.
  • Pirate Ship is struggling, but Argos did these at £15 or so, it'll take time.

I've had no problem selling these at reasonable profit after good buy-in price. Tesco were virtually giving these away at the April 3 for 2. The touch-screen Angry Birders of eight years ago will be earning money soon.  As I said, they need time.
