For bigger builds is there a preferred way to sort bricks for building? I am getting ready to embark on my first really big build.

We can use this topic to share pictures and stories of "official" Lego prototypes (aka sketches) of products that were produced or not. Please cite the source if using info from other places. I discovered two sets of pictures today on eurobricks. The picture below is of a larger 1) Speeder Bike and 2) Tie Advanced model and was in a early 2000s Lego magazine. The official release of the UCS 10175 Vader Tie Advanced set debuted in 2006 / 2007. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=10175-1 Here is another pretty famous prototype of Yavin IV that appeared in DK's Star Wars Lego: The Visual Dictionary.

Here is my rendition of a drag racer “funny car.” Not built for looks, but for acceleration. This was achieved by both including raw power but also limiting the weight of the model (989 grams), and also reducing friction as much as possible (thus the odd front wheels). This build was somewhat inspired by Lego 42050. Contrary to many, I actually really like Technic set 42050. Not for looks to be sure, but at least the looks were consistent with the name usually given to these cars (i.e. “funny car”; TLG mercifully titled the 42050 “drag racer” but I think “funny car drag racer” fits better). The obvious lacking in the set was any speed. How can you have a drag racer a…

A collection of stories about a world supported by four elephants standing atop a giant turtle filled with all sorts of characters including Death (Not death with a little "d" but Death with a big "D" as in the person.) were written with such wit and humor, there is no doubt as to why these tales amuse and inspire so many. Though the storyline may progress no further and the author sorely missed, Sir Terry Pratchett's fable will never be forgotten. Hi, I am interested in building a modular display with my Lego sets. I have recently purchased the Cinema Display and Parisian Restaurant. I will also add a few more soon including Detectives Office, Brick Bank, and possible MOCs. I would love to have a crane in my city as I build the difference sets. I have looked at the Lego Technic Crawler Crane 42042, and it looks amazing, but I am worried about the scale. Does anyone have experience with the size of this crane as it sits next to modulars or can anyone offer advice on another crane option that is available or hasn't shot up too far in price after retirement? Thank you! I read these forums daily and love to lear…

I decided a little while back to bricklink my first retired set (3723). I chose this set as it's mostly made up of common bricks, but a lot of them, so I felt it would be pretty simple to do. I was checking out brickshelf and found a modified version of 3723 with improved legs that look just like a minifigure. I didn't realize until I found this this MOC that the 3723 legs are pretty lacking in design. I've tried to locate instructions on how to make these legs and have come up empty. Any ideas or help with where I can find instructions for these legs? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=339985

Hey All, Lego really is so diverse. From artistic to technical, right-brained to left-brained, there is something for all of us. Artsy..... yet numerical and mathematic at the same time. As a practicing neuropsychologist, this is of incredible interest to me. Here is a LDD rendition of what the brain might look like when building with Lego if scanned with a PET scanner. Youtube video is much more accurate.....in that it produces more of a video-like rendering of the brain than a static picture. More information at: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/427329

I was at my mom's house today and found some old lego sets from the late 90's early 2000's. Most of the sets are 99% complete but i'm either missing one brick or I substitute a lego with a different color lego. I'm trying to bring some of these sets back to life. Besides brinklink where else should I be looking for replacement legos?

Hey Everyone, I know that Technic is not the most popular to do MOCing in ..... but thought I would share my new build. Had to save up lots of 15L liftarms to accomplish this.... but finally done. I have posted all the information elsewhere, with more photos, details, etc. so I won't redo everything, and I only have so much room here. http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/425498 http://youtu.be/W4DlzAeiWl0 http://youtu.be/3GnCv2T6Uxw Check it out..... little but of a read but hopefully worth it. I also re-created in Lego the exact lift that the Liebherr group did years ago on their customer appreciation …

Hey Folks! Recently I've been displaying more and more custom creations (or just somewhat modified) Vs. actual LEGO designed sets. I guess I've just hit a point where i take more pride in something i have personally designed/fixed/added to. As many of you may have seen a few months ago; i made a large Jurassic World display with most of the JW sets (you can view that below), but as we all know - the JW sets other than the Dino's are pretty lame and not very screen accurate. So it started look a little kiddie on display with my 10179 and Pirate Ships and i took it down. However JP still is one of my favourite franchises and i felt bad not displa…

I bet a lot of people here would meet the job qualifications (Do you have “LEGO building experience” and “a good knowledge of LEGO parts”?): http://qz.com/600927/dream-job-alert-legoland-is-hiring-model-builders/ Assuming location wouldn't be a problem (Florida): would you do it?

Hi, all i recently went to brickfair 2016 (cool, right!?) and bought 5 modern millatary hemets, and 6 combat vests, and a LOT of brickarms. I tried to build this gun store thing, but it didn't really work out. Any suggestions for a zombie apocalypse moc? Thanks, Jack

Specifically wanted to start a topic to discuss what has now become a series-within-a-series. You all know what I mean here, 31026 Bike Shop and Cafe 31036 Toy and Grocery Shop 31050 Corner Deli Now that they've continued the trend of releasing one of these each year (ok first one was two buildings in one) I think the trend is going to improve the long term prospects here. Even if you look at these from a "I don't care about the street theme there" perspective, they're still great piece fodder for building towards the larger modular buildings. I wish I had the funds to allocate to this series. How do you g…

I'm on the planning stages of getting my Technic Arocs RC'ed, but having never worked with IR receivers as of yet, I am not sure how they work. Do they have to be visible or "within sight" from the controller's viewpoint all the time? Would hiding it inside the cab make transmission issues?

Thought I'd play "guess what I'm building" with you fine folks. This set was mostly in an overflowing BTTF box which was inside a big plastic bin. Can you guess which set this is? (See pic) Good luck!
