General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. I just started to ship my minifigures on eBay and when I was about to print out the shipping label, I found out that it costed $1.69 for an envelope, that held less than an ounce of Legos inside. I thought this was way over the top, so I put a "Forever" stamp on it and shipped it out. A couple days later, I received the envelope back in the mail with an arrow to the stamps and the words "Incorrect Postage, add $0.20", so the next morning, I sent it out with the extra $0.20 on it. I received it back today, so I decided to take the envelope to the Post Office and ask them about it. The lady at the desk said that it qualified as a package since it was more than 1/4 inch thic…

  5. I just bought this set for $13 at my local K-mart (the one me and BlackJack are ranting on about). It retails for $35, so for me it was an impulse buy. They have three left, should I pick up another one? With two more movies coming, and Christmas slowly closing in, I think that anything Hobbit related will do awesomely!!

I bought this set a couple months ago for $7... should I sell it soon or hold on to it? I see it goes for around $20 on eBay. Selling it at that price wouldn't be bad and I'd have more money to invest with.... also it's one of Lego's bundle things where they add a game in with it, here's pictures.

I'm new to selling on eBay, how much of a percentage do they take off of your transaction?

Hey guys. So tomorrow (5/20/13) I'll be making my first major Lego run. I live in NJ and close to NYC so the stores around me do not have any crazy clearance sales ever. The county I live in however has Blue Laws in effect, which means stores are not open on Sundays. This is nice because the circulars and sales are posted on Sundays but nobody can shop until Monday. It gives me time to really check for good sales. Anyway, I've got between $500 and $700 to spend. I'll be trying to get some MF sets as well as some LOTR sets. Many of the stores have discounted SW sets (A-wing being the most prominent; 28% off) this week. Should I pick up some SW sets like this? Also, wha…

  9. I didn't see this mentioned anywhere before, but the original shipments of the Stagecoach Escape had an error on the box. The Barret character was incorrect in the areas of the box where it shows the names of the character. The original, incorrect box showed Barret with a different head and a red bandana, which didn't match the character in the set and pictured on the stagecoach on the front of the box. New boxes have been shipped to LEGO stores now with the correct image for Barret. I doubt there will be much extra value in the error box, but I know some people are in to that kind of thing, including me. The new, corrected box art is below.

I know this set is toystory... but it's also also a train, will the good outweigh the bad? I see it runs for around $75 on here. I have the chance to buy it for $55. Should I do it?

Went to USPS to ship my first sale. I used a walmart box and the guy wouldn't give me the option to ship priority. I had to pay $40 for express (lol) or $10 for ground. I went with ground and contacted my buyer to let them know what was up. The cost calculator doesn't seem to agree with this nor does their FAQ. For future reference should I be able to ship priority mail with my own boxes when their boxes are too small?

  13. We all know how sets tend to spike in value really quickly right after EOL, especially if it goes out of stock at all the retailers at once. It is not uncommon to see sets double in value over this time, this is when many sellers take it upon themselves to go ahead and sell the set. I will use my winter village bakery as an example... Purchase Price - $47 Sale Price - $95 - it is was going for this amount 2 weeks after I made my purchase Ebay/paypal fees - $14 Shipping - $12 Final Profit - $22 This actually did pretty well on its own, I haven't actually sold mine yet since I am hoping it will go for much more later, here is the interesting thing though, even …

  20. Kmart.com has a few items on sale, to include Helm's Deep and Attack on Weathertop Currently, 9472 is available for shipping, but 9474 is only available for local pickup. Free shipping over $79 for Shop Your Way Members and code - KMART10PSAVINGS gets you 10% off. Total, with tax, I was able to get 9472 for $48.33 and 9474 for $104. Not the best deal in the world, but since these are EOL, definitely worth picking up. Good Luck! - Ed

I found another site selling Legos that sent the BS meter pegging... HomBZ.com They have the Maersk train for $87 (as well as Diagon Alleyand The Pet Shop for $99 each). So I thought "hmmmmm, let's see..." Put the order in then they direct you to paypal for payment. OK....so I see if the vendor is 'verified' but can't find anywhere on paypal where that info is. No way will I send money unless they are verified. The website has a phone number so I call ((951) 200-4263?) I get a recorded message...no one there, blah blah blah...leave a message. BS meter pegging even more. I look at the "invoice" the sent me via email Here's the address they ship from…

Gents, my mother-inlaw bought my boy a 10179 in 2009 as a gift to give him when he was older. He's now 10 and although old enough to tackle this monster ship, I believe the prudent thing to do is sell it. It hasn't been taken out of the inner brown cardboard box it came in. Still sealed. It was ship in a box, within a box. It does have a packing slip that states the item # 4495738, & description 10179 Ultimate Collector's. The seal on the inner box also has addition info. How do I go about estimating it's value? Should I open the box to see the actual lego box inside or will that hurt the value? I'm not sure if it is a first edition or not. Can you …

  24. Hello Group, My local Kmart weekly ad says that there is a 20% discount on all Ironman toys. I did not see any exclusions on the flyer so it might not be consistent at all stores and may decide on the managers discretion. While this isn't the best deal in town if you have an Ironman itch to scratch this is an adequate sale. Happy hunting.
