General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by Polar_Beast,

I found a store near me that as 5 of 7188 King's Carriage Ambush for $30. Some of the boxes are dinged up a bit too. Should I pounce, or pass? Thanks for any advice!

Ok, so many of you have seen my troubles with my Lego Availability and basically being restricted to just Walmart as my only physical store to visit for Clearance. I would love to have suggestions as to how I can save the most money ordering online. If I have to drive to Memphis, TN (2 hr drive) to hit Targets/TRU/WalMarts, I'll spend 4 hrs roundtrip traveling, and of course $$$ in gas. I know to watch Amazon. I'm not really familiar with shopping Amazon.Uk yet, but I'm going to make that a new way to check for deals. I know I can get Walmart to ship to store (crap) , or ship to my house... Target the same. What other ways can I save? Special Cre…

In the past, have any of the major Lego retailers had really good deals on the 4th of July? Thanks!

Hopefully, this is the right area to post this and I'm sure it's been discussed before. I quickly glanced through the topics and didn't see it but may have missed it. There is a lot of good information on here about buying at discounts (Walmart and Target deals) vs retail prices on S&****. At first glance it seems like a no-brainer, but in some cases it may make more sense to buy from S&**** when you factor in the VIP points and the exclusives you get for that month. I'm assuming free shipping at S&**** as well. What I mean by exclusives is the value they have on say eBay. Last month, early Jorel was routinely going for $15-$20. If you factor the …

  7. I have had Lego as hobby all of my life, but it is only until recently that I am in the process of investing with it. I'm really new to it, and if possible I'd like to know recommended techniques to calculate the potential sell prices for custom build projects, like layouts, real life objects representations, and else. Thanks.

  8. I had 15% off there last weekend on anything (although only 1 of each exclusive) and I picked up an R2D2 (for investing), a VW Camper (for investing), Palace Cinema (to build or to invest, haven't decided) and a tower bridge to build with the wife. I get 30% off on 5 sets this weekend but not on exclusives, what should I get? Don't ask how I get the discount, I'm not allowed to say.

  9. Now I am not sure if this is the right place for trade but I decided to get rid of a few sets/items since I am trying to liquidate some cash to buy more LEGO Toy shop sets from my local retailer (see trade in General investing ***Hot Stuff***) SETS are MISB condition, box being rated easily 8 if not very close to 9! 2x Winter Village Toy Shop 1x Winter Village Bakery LINK to 1 box http://shrani.si/f/3k/6T/3jKmwJki/1/toyshop.jpg COMBINED PRICE(including shipping): 485$ (shipping costs me 70$ roughly (priority+registered+insured) Current lowest Toy Shop on Ebay = 200$ + shipping Current lowest Bakery on Ebay = 150$ + shipping I…

  10. I thought I'd start this thread as a collection of examples of offering great customer service as an Ebay seller. Share a time when you were the seller or the buyer of an item when an ebay seller went above and beyond when they didn't have to.

  12. Primarily out of curiosity I wanted to start a thread to find out how competitive the local secondhand market is in some of the areas that you guys patrol. A few of you have probably heard me whine a bit about my area (Austin TX) being a pain in the butt and it truly is. Since I've started using Craigslist I've noticed that if anything lego finds its way on there at an even remotely good price, its gone within a few hours, and almost every time I've gone to pickup or view sets or lots, I've been told by the owner that someone else either inquired immediately after me, or attempted to buy everything they had in one fell swoop, leading me to believe there's some big f…

  13. This may be the biggest lot I've ever seen on my local CL. http://austin.craigslist.org/tag/3889717844.html I can't afford it, but if anyone is interested I can try to talk to the guy or something, or maybe take a look at it in person. This could be an opportunity to get a seriously nice collection before it goes to ebay.

I am going on about a month without any of my craigslist emails getting any responses. Does anyone have something on craigslist that I could try to reply to? I am wondering if the sellers are even getting my emails or just being douches. Most adds I respond to are around my area so I am not sure what is going on.

Has anyone ever had an issue where fed ex tracking says your shipment was delivered but you never received it? I ordered 5 VW Campers from Walmart. They were delivered in 2 boxes, one with 3 campers and 1 with 2. There are two separate tracking numbers. Both say the boxes were delivered. Problem is I never got the box with the 2 campers. Going to be calling Fed Ex. Just wondering if anybody has had this issue before and, if so, what the outcome was.

  16. Ok, this is on topic but not, so bear with me. Barnes & Noble are running this promotion online (unsure if it in store or not) for DVDs and BluRays. How does this relate to Lego you may ask? Very simple. The Clark Kent minifig is given away with the Lego Batman Movie - DC Superheroes Unite. Current price is $14.51. 3 sets for $29.02 before freight wherever you are, average of $9.67 The minifig itself is selling on Bricklink for no less than $16. And you get a dvd. Make of it what you will, but I ordered a few!

There has been a lot of talk about this particular issue. Heck, there was even an article for it. However, it has been explained before that actual 'Drop Shipping' is a legimate practice used by companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon when you order something online. It is only when you have individuals using stolen credit cards things get illegal. I have read complaints from some members about using the term 'drop shipper' for these illegal practices when the truth is actual 'drop shipping' is legal. So I am proposing that we put our heads together and come up with a name that befits the crooks that use the legal practice of 'drop shipping' for their own illegal purpo…

  20. I stopped at their store the other day looking to pick up some of the sets mentioned in the title above. I got there and they were sold out. (They had some Lego games items though.) I asked the cashier and he said they sold them all to a guy the day before. He said they were not expecting anymore sets, but he suggested I look on their website to see if they were selling them there. I later checked and they have both in stock. The 4865 Forbidden Forest is $13.99 and the 7914 Mandalorian Battle Pack is $16.99. Over retail, but if you missed the boat on them they might be worth picking up. You can only add up to 2 of the Forbidden Forests and 1 of the Mandalorian Battle Pack…

Have any of you from the US ever bought stuff from Mexico or South America? I want to open a brick and minifigure store at Bricklink and I would like to know if people from the US have to pay import taxes when buying from outside the country, I could ask a friend to send from the US but I really dont want to bother him.

So, living in North Jersey, I never have much success at finding any steep discounts on Lego sets. My best bets are usually Targets and Kmarts. However, in the town next to me there is a little toy shop called Tons of Toys. I had not gone in it until yesterday mainly due to their hours. Well, when I went in, I was utterly blown away. This store has the BEST selection of Legos I have ever seen outside of the Lego Store and TRU. Multiple Unimogs, Weathertops, etc. If it's not an exclusive they have it! Now, here's the best part. The sets are all marked at retail but the store ALWAYS puts coupons in the weekly newspapers. These coupons are ALWAYS at least 15% off any pur…

What are some strategies that you use to keep your shipping costs down? I keep as many of the boxes used to send items as I can, but sometimes, that is impossible. Also, sometimes boxes are far too big for the item that was sent. Where do you get cheap boxes that will work for your shipping needs?
