General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by forestgirl27,

Just a heads up... There is a store called Tuesday Morning which is basically a buy-out store. I popped into one today and saw a few Lego sets. Nothing I wanted (Minotaurus game, mining truck, and another game), but, if you are ever near one of these stores, it might not be a bad idea to see if they have anything you might be interested in.

Would you sell those 2 sets together or separate? And do you think this Christmas is a good moment to sell them or do you think they will increase their value?

I'd like to publicly give paypal a double thumbs up. I was ready to accept a $120 rookie mistake when I sold to someone in the Russian Federation who had only had their account for a couple days. Shipped off a Spongebob set via First Class international. Received a chargeback notice after shipping, saying the purchase was unauthorized. Now I know (but then I didn't) that paypal seller protection covers you in the event that you ship via a traceable service (USPS priority express). I'm pretty sure that these people go searching for sellers that list first class international as an option as I had ANOTHER sale two days later from a different person in the Russian Feder…

  4. I'm going to be selling off a few of my sets. I'm looking for advice on shipping. Particularly, what is the most cost effective way to ship without damaging the product. Also how much to charge I looked at priority mail flat rate boxes but they seem sort of expensive. I see people charging 6 bucks for items that would fit in a $12 priority flat rate box. Also, does anyone have more specific advice for different sizes of sets? My thinking is that I need to have 5 different size boxes and shipping rates calculated based approximately on pcs - i.e. the 100 pc, 200, 400, 600, and 800 pc sets. I don't have anything larger than that yet. For simpli…

  5. Hi everyone, How and where do I post deals that I have for sale? I have a few exclusive sets for someone living in the L.A area. Thanks.

I'm wondering what is considered acceptable from the standpoint of the used condition of bricks in a built set. I am currently piecing together some sets from a massive CL haul. I am discarding any broken, discolored, or gouged/dented/deeply scratched pieces, but almost all have numerous hairline scratches on them that can be seen when looking at them at a certain angle with decent lighting. For the modulars I'm building, I'm thinking about just pick-a-bricking a ton of 2x2 and 1x2 tiles, since these seem to be the most noticeable (on the sidewalk areas, mostly). I realize that even brand new sets can have these scratches, just from being in the bags, so I'm wonderi…

I have a question about BrickLink that I am hoping that someone more experienced might be able to help... So I've put together a "Wanted List" on BrickLink (for pieces from the Taj Mahal), and was able to find a list of sellers who had the highest amount of "unique lots" on my list. Once I click on a store, there are two options for "mass adding" items into your cart: "Auto-Fill Cart Max" and "Auto-Fill Cart Min". Is there a way to add items to your cart using the quantity specified in your wanted list? Second question: I'm sure that many of you guys have BrickLinked sets at one point or another. So how do you decide which seller has the best "value" for the …

Buying or selling...just curious what other members have forked over or received. Cash is king. Any interesting or memorable stories? I'm a small time investor/flipper so selling 2 mint Crawler 41999 to a local buyer (kjijij) gave me $1000. By far my highest cash transaction. Without fees I thought it was good enough flip...but part of me did want to keep one in case the value climbs to +$1000 range and have something pretty exclusive brand new, mint and unopened. Oh well, it was fun having it for 2-3wks

This has been an extremely informative site. I have decided to try my hand at investing in a few lego sets as it seems like a fun hobby to help fund a personal collection. I found LoTR Weathertop on clearance for $20 each at my local Walmart and bought a few. I also picked up a Hulk Breakout for $35. I bought a few others but these are the main ones I have a question about. At what point is it a good idea to sell? I realize no one may no the perfect time as sets go up and down, but I would like to hear your opinions. The average price listed on this site now for either of those sets are over $50 so I could already try to make a profit, but should I expect prices to …

I made a point to be at my local Kmart this morning when they opened with the hopes that their 50% off clearance sale would be starting since their last promo ended yesterday. No dice. What they have going on now is 10% off the clearance price and then then you get 30% back in points. Not terrible, but not as juicy as the 50% off sales we all know and love. This new promo runs through 8/24, so I will be back early next Sunday morning to see if they finally go to 50%. They ran the 50% sale over Memorial Day as well as the 4th of July, so the closer we get to Labor Day is when they will probably run it. My kmart is less than a mile from my house, so i have no problem checki…

  11. Hi everyone. I just wanted to share with you the several vintage 70's lego sets I have up for auction on Ebay. These sets are incomplete but come with boxes and instructions for the most part. Believe it or not these were given to me by a person whose husband passed away and she did not want anything to do with the legos that he had. They were pratically almost placed in the trash until they were rescued. Check them out if anyone is interested in having old vintage legos for display. Does anyone think it might be worth it to buy two of the Sydney Opera House 10234 during the VIP early buying period to quickly try and sell for a profit to those too eager to wait? What do you think this set might go for on ebay doing this? It's way to early to buy these and sit on them for awhile, but would the profit be worth trying this quick flip? Thanks for any responses.

I was out running errands and stopped into one of our cities many thrift stores yesterday and in the toy section I saw 5 big bags of Lego sitting there. I have found some Lego recently but nothing like this. So for a grand total of 27.32(give or take a few pennies) I walked out with what is at least 30-35 pounds of the good stuff. I was absolutely stoked! I could tell right off the bat that there was plenty of star wars as well as one bag that had been specifically sorted to have town pieces in it. This is going to take me a while to sift through but based on the minifigs I have found thus far and certain unique parts I have thus far determined that the follo…

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I did my due diligence and couldn't find an answer otherwise. Is there a forum on this site where folks can offer sets for trade? I've actually swapped a couple sets through conversations on the site and have found it a great way to access items that I can't find here in my somewhat limited market. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought the set and being an absolute completest, I like to have the "extra items" that came with the set. Can someone tell me how many "Plastic Flag 8 x 5 with White Skull and Crossed Cutlasses Pattern" parts came with the set? Did it come with 3 total?

  17. I would have liked to added these last options onto the other clearance thread but there is only room for three questions per poll so I had to create another just for these. I only tried listing the main stores and websites but if I am missing some good ones, please let me know. I can add major retailers from different regions since not everyone has access to certain stores.

  18. With all this Summer clearancing talk amoung other sale events, I thought to place a poll up for members to help give everyone a general idea of what Lego discounts look like on average. Feel free to describe some of your typical bargain hunting experiences here if you wish. ^_^

I was hoping someone could give me some insight into selling new in box lego sets on amazon. I am very familiar with selling on ebay, but was thinking about opening an amazon selling account as well. How do the two compare? Do sets on amazon move anywhere as fast as they can on ebay assuming you have a reasonable/competitive price? Any insight would be appreciated!

  20. Here is the link: http://www.shopko.com/detail/lego-star-wars-at-st--endor/45632 I tried to order this once before but after three weeks it was canceled out. I decided I'll try again. Results may vary. I couldn't find anything else worth ordering to get free shipping, but the planets came out to about four dollars a piece for me, and to me that's a deal. Happy Hunting!

Hi All, Couldn't find a post relating to this so I thought I would start one (sorry if this isn't the right forum, it was either this one or the Odds & Ends...). Anyway, back when I started buying sets for my son (self!), I was cutting out pictures from the boxes to decorate the walls in his room. He loved it, and it was a great way to sort of hang onto the boxes without them taking up space. But the wall soon ran out of space, and so I have accumulated a collection of around maybe 30 or so (some essentially mint, others a little dinged) that I can't bear to simply toss out. I have tried to keep them as undamaged as possible - most dents were present at…

Hey all, I'm sure nearly all of you have had to deal with taping up your shipping boxes when mailing sets off to customers. I've reached a stage where I'm tired of wrestling with those disposable red dispensers from Staples and would like to purchase something more professional. I'm looking for recommendations, advice, pros, cons, loves, hates. Thank you!

I found 2 lego sets in my cupboard that had been stashed away for over 10 years waiting to be given as gifts. But now I want to sell them. But I have no idea what they are worth. They are number 3401 Zidane soccer set and 3431 NBA basketball set. Thanks in advance.
