General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. I don't do a ton of bulk/parting out. I have about 15 lbs I have separated by color. Trying to figure out how to price them in color lots - I know bulk in general goes from $6-$8/lb depending on quality/type, but should I be pricing different colors higher? Follow up Q - would you bother separating every color out or no? As an example I have about 2 lbs of brown, but with some tan, light brown, etc, mixed in. I know stuff like sand green can go for higher, just not sure about others. Any thoughts from the bulk sellers out there appreciated!

Anyone have advice on this? I'm referring to individual bricks/pieces. I'd be a little scared to just put them in a bubble mailer but it seems like that's really the only way to go. Used the search feature and didn't find anything. Sorry if I am duplicating.

Im looking to sell some sets and manuals on the german (dutch, french) ebay. So it would be very helpful to get the names of the sets translated. I tried google, but cant find a site like brickpicker or bricksets in german. You can find some of the names on the lego site but its slow and only works with new sets.

Alright maybe you guys can help me with this question ... With the March promo (Martian manhunter) vs. April Double points in mind ... I wan to buy 4 Exclusive sets... When and how would you buy them and split the benefits of both promos ??? More man hunters or double points ... I say man hunters . Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  7. With all this Summer clearancing talk amoung other sale events, I thought to place a poll up for members to help give everyone a general idea of what Lego discounts look like on average. Feel free to describe some of your typical bargain hunting experiences here if you wish. ^_^

  8. Ive seen posts on here about where to sell lego's and I've noticed it is harder to interact on here. I came upon a website that looks like it is still being built but is up and running. From what I see it has an auction however it isn't completed yet. It also looks as if it is a facebook for collectors of some type. Maybe a new avenue to sell and buy collectables. if you want to check it out www.nerdinout.com.

  9. I have a 16 oz scale that I have been using forever and I love it. Whenever I had a larger package I would run to the PO weigh it and come home to print the label. Was never really and issue as I normally make 2 trips to the PO everyday. I am about to start selling some LEGO product and these little pieces weigh a ton! I am finally going to take the plunge and get a decent scale to sell larger items. I looked at Amazon, which of these would you recommend? I'm fairly well established as an EBay Individual Seller (Power Seller status, 100% Positive with 185 FB), and now wondering if I should branch out to selling on Amazon also. For those with experience with selling on both, how do they compare in regards to ease of use, selling fees, for both an individual and or Professional/Store, etc. How many of you actually sell on both Amazon and EBay? Which do you prefer? Is it worth it to sell on both? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

So I have only been selling for a few months on eBay, mostly smaller things to learn, build feedback and polish my processes. So far I have done pretty good but one thing is becoming clear. Between shipping labels and packing slips one prints alot of paper. Currently I have a kodak inkjet printer and it works fine and cartridges are reasonable but have a smaller capacity. I am getting about 100 pages per cartridge at about 12 bucks a cartridge. So I find myself eying a laser jet printer as they can do give or take 5000 pages on a 50 dollar toner cartridge. The con is the much higher entry cost of the printer vs one I already have. But in the long run they are…

Bought this set Ninjago temple of light for $20 each. Should I sell now ( judging from ebay, will make double per set) or wait ?

I recently found an add on Craigslist and had about $400 to spend. I believe I hit the motherlode! It is about 50lbs and they were all sorted by color. I looked up a couple of the set numbers and was able to find instructions online and so far the sets are complete. The most interesting one is what looks to be a complete train set with a lot of track which was not shown on the pictures! I think the hardest part is going to be seperating everything but it is enough to warrant several bins/drawers. Does $400 seem reasonable for this lot? Its crazy how many pieces came with it including tons of 6X6, 6X8 and 6X10 plates, there are also several 6X12s. I cant wait to have some …

Around the end of yesterday on my way home, I perchance spotting a big "STORE CLOSING" banner on the side of my Kmart. Dang it. I know I barely went there much at all but I was actually looking forward on trying to catch next year's clearance sales and the next nearest one is a good half hour away from where I typically shop (assuming that one is not also being closed). I am not surprised about the closure honestly but it still is a little disappointing. Anyway, I went in and sure enough there were signs everwhere stating "Store Closeout Sale, All Sales Final" and a few with "10%-30% of lowest sticker price". It wasn't half off which I would think a store needing to l…

  15. Does Amazon always just charge a flat rate for everything? The shipping is always a LOT more than what they automatically charge the customer ($6.95 I think). How does everyone do it, just charge more for the product?

Hi Everyone Where can I find those LEGO 19" display figures that we see at LEGO stores? And how much does it cost before people put it on Ebay?

  17. Started by sympster,

Hi there, I have a large (19 inch tall) Lego figure that I wish to sell. As far as I am aware they have never been sold, they are only acquired as a retailer stocking lego - they are used for store merchandising. Any idea how rare this is and how much it would be worth? Thanks

  18. Hey guys! Wasn't entirely sure where to put this... I am selling it so this may be appropriate. I have a sealed 6866 which seems to have a rattling piece inside not in a bag. Now i have a couple of these left and none have this unique rattling sound which i'm %99 sure it's a very tiny loose piece not bagged rattling around. I know from experience some large pieces are not bagged in some sets, but this one sounds like a very very tiny piece. I'm more or less wondering if this is anything to be concerned about. Could one of the bags have a tiny hole it escaped from? could it be a fluke and just an extra piece? Does anyone else have any experience with this…

  19. Hi all! First time shipping a lego set internationally. Need to ship it out urgently but realised I ran out of the USPS transparent envelope (2976-E) which is used to contain the customs forms. I have a UPS transparent one sitting at home though. Does anyone know if I can use that instead or is USPS strict abt this? I've also scheduled a pick-up for my parcel - by any chance the USPS mailman will have any of these stashed in his vehicle? Really appreciate any help or advice here. Thanks in advance!

  20. So I was wondering how everyone is taking care of this - Its one of the few things I haven't really developed a "system" for. Do most of you just calculate your taxes at the end of the year and just pay it? Do you take a certain amount out of each of your sales to stow away? I was thinking about just withdrawing 30% each time I withdraw from Paypal to a Savings account so I make sure I have money on hand. I was curious if others do it this way - or do you do more? Less? Obviously its tough to know exactly what you will pay unless you are putting it straight into a tax calc - which maybe thats what people do?

  21. All, I would like your help...what system are you using to print online labels and postage for standard post and 1st class large envelopes for USPS? I was looking at Stamps.com - is that a good solution? I was hoping for a company that had USPS and FedEX/UPS but if not that is OK since 90% of my packages will be USPS. Standard Post (sets and large packages) and 1st class large envelope (minifigs, etc.) are huge for me and I would like to find an online solution for printing these out rather than standing in line at the PO You cannot print these online at usps.com. That said, what label makers are you guys using to get this done? I recently bought the dy…

    Started by Guest,

Hello all! Like many others before me, I've decided to use bricklink to sell off my spare Lego to help fund my hobby. I've opened up a shop, had my first few orders and ran into a problem. See, I hate all the different fees and shipping costs on BL, so I decided to take another approach. No fees, no shipping costs... Something I'm able to do because I mainly want to sell minifigures with maybe the additional set thrown in. The problem I have is this, if I offer this service and people order a 1 euro minifig ans want to have it shipped to the other side of the world, obviously I'd be losing money. I really don't mind losing out on a bit of money to be able to s…

  25. So far, I have been selling newer sets and flipping them for cash, which is great. I have sold more popular sets through eBay (Mine Craft, Star Wars and other big sets), but the gauging of the fees sucks! Haven't tried Amazon yet, but I will once I figure the best way to handle the traffic in the future. I'm hoping for less fees, but from researching, it appears it will be the same or more (depending on certain things). Craigslist is obviously the cheapest route, but not enough exposure. You have to deal with some really special people, which can suck! Would love to sell more sets through my site, but need more exposure and with some planning, I ca…
