General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by j.hermit,

This is my first post on Brickpicker (hurray!), I've been lurking for a little while now. My question: does anyone know what the item number listed on the bottom of the box is used for? For example, Uruk-Hai Army set #9471 lists "Item: 4653953" above the UPC code. I'm listing a few sets on Ebay and I'm wondering if this number is important or should be included somewhere. Any replies appreciated, and thanks to everyone for such an awesome site; you've already provided me with tons of useful info.

Hi, I just sold a star wars set worth a few hundred dollars (I would prefer not to state which set or the price). However the buyer has zero feedback and a very unusual username, like random characters. Would you be concerned about shipping the item to them? Are there any precautions that you would take? I'm thinking of the shipping insurance, or maybe requiring a signature? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert

So on Oct 31st I went crazy and ran to local Lego store to make the most of the 2x VIP points before it expired. I picked up a TB and SSD thinking their closest to EOL. Well after that I received in my email survey to let them know how they were doing and I put exceptional for everything because I didn't have any problems. I just recieved this email today. Thank you for visiting our Woodfield Mall LEGO

I love this site and they just so happened to have minecraft legos in stock and you could buy up to 4 of them. I have been dying to get this set and i will finally have it. The only thing about Jinx is that it takes forever for shipping. I doubt they have anymore in stock but check it out in case.

Several of the June 1 Harry Potter sets are still listed as 'coming soon' on Lego.com. New 3-in-1 Castle is in same status... Did these get pushed back? New Specific date?

Gents, my mother-inlaw bought my boy a 10179 in 2009 as a gift to give him when he was older. He's now 10 and although old enough to tackle this monster ship, I believe the prudent thing to do is sell it. It hasn't been taken out of the inner brown cardboard box it came in. Still sealed. It was ship in a box, within a box. It does have a packing slip that states the item # 4495738, & description 10179 Ultimate Collector's. The seal on the inner box also has addition info. How do I go about estimating it's value? Should I open the box to see the actual lego box inside or will that hurt the value? I'm not sure if it is a first edition or not. Can you …

  8. Hey everyone! So my son has been playing lego for a while (I used to play as a kid too) but seemed limited in what he could build based on the amount/type of lego we have. So I bought 50lbs of lego from craigslist and now there's so much I'm sure he won't be able to play with it all. So I've been reading around and discovered the magical world of used lego selling Anyway, I wanted to try what many of you do and sell some of our lego with the aim to make a profit so that it can fund more lego (brand new sets that he picks out himself and/or more used lots). From what I've gathered, the best way to sell mixed lego is to sort it, build any sets as near complete as …

  9. What should I do with this set since it is missing 50-100 pieces? Sell it or try to get the missing pieces?

  11. I rarely ask for advice on buying Lego, but today I got $75 worth of rewards Coupons from Toys R Us, And they are 3-$15, and 3-$10 ones. They say Valid in store or online through 5/31/13 and I can use them all at one time, or split them up. Now some may say how did I get so much, well I spent a few grand a while back, when I got 20 Friends 3185, etc. Now I could get 2 of the 8110 buy one get one half price and use the $75 coupon, so get both for $260.00, or 4 Vampires Castle for $76.00 each, Or 4 Helm's Deep for $92 each any other suggestions. Hey all , i'm making this thread for a place where people can post what they have bought or have in stock to ask a simple question keep or sell? Keep : keep in storage and wait for a later price up to resell. (well duh) Sell: price's are at a high at the moment if you sell now you will make a nice profit but you dont have to seen as i might go up even more... (lego sets might not stay at higher value so thats why its some time better to sell them now before they go down and reinvest in a cheaper set or 2) (BUT just because people say sell doesnt mean price wont go up anymore! so be aware of this! this is only a recommendation not a todo list) …

I'm going thru, (read building and fighting myself not to keep it all), a really cool vintage lot I got recently from CL. Part of the lot is 4 small sets from the 90's looks like they were part of Kellog promotion series. 1560,61,62,63. Instructions are present. Given that this is a complete collection what are your suggestions on pricing it? There are not many of them on ebay so BP price guide is not helpful, so I'm going to rely on experienced folks here Thanks a lot.

  14. Hello all! Have recently come across a peculiar minifigure and haven't been able to find much on it. Kevin Hinkle was the former AFOL community project manager for LEGO. Hinkle was recently laid off at the end of the 2017 year, and unfortunately no longer with tlg. These minifigures were apparently handed out by these LEGO executives like business cards. See below: Anyway, what would this guy be worth?

I think one of the bigger cultural differences between America and Canada in regards to the hobby we all share is the means by which alot of reselling is accomplished. It seems to me that while Ebay has a dominant presence in the US, along with Craiq's List, up north Canadians seem quite enamored with Kijiji. More local than Ebay, Kijiji has some positives you don't get with Ebay, local pick up/drop off and no auction. I think Kijiji is pretty slick and the past months I've seen everything from Green Grocer to this 10179 Millenium Falcon listed locally. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-toys-games-Millennium-falcon-W0QQAdIdZ460942456 Just wondering if any B…

  16. Hello Group, My local Kmart weekly ad says that there is a 20% discount on all Ironman toys. I did not see any exclusions on the flyer so it might not be consistent at all stores and may decide on the managers discretion. While this isn't the best deal in town if you have an Ironman itch to scratch this is an adequate sale. Happy hunting.

  17. I've had some good luck with kmart.com, and wondered if regular Kmart brick&mortar stores would be a good thing to add to my buying rounds. Do they have a specific day of the week for markdowns or clearance? Anyone have good luck there? Thanks for any help, as always.

  18. I have to give credit to Kmart online customer service, in the last two days I got two very good refunds! Way back in December I purchased 4 Monster Fighters Crazy Scientists (9466) from them and only received one. I contacted them last week and they are out of them so they gave me a refund that left my total cost for the one I got at $10. Sorry I didn't get all four at a good price, but feeling great about the one I got! About the same time I also ordered two Lego Republic Striker-Class Starfighters (9497) and they shipped one in a plastic envelope so the Lego box was totally crushed in many places. On this one they refunded me the cost of the set (plus shipping,…

I made a point to be at my local Kmart this morning when they opened with the hopes that their 50% off clearance sale would be starting since their last promo ended yesterday. No dice. What they have going on now is 10% off the clearance price and then then you get 30% back in points. Not terrible, but not as juicy as the 50% off sales we all know and love. This new promo runs through 8/24, so I will be back early next Sunday morning to see if they finally go to 50%. They ran the 50% sale over Memorial Day as well as the 4th of July, so the closer we get to Labor Day is when they will probably run it. My kmart is less than a mile from my house, so i have no problem checki…

Go forth and price match, it's OOS. Sad I missed this one, those dragons are sweeeet.

  21. Kmart.com has a few items on sale, to include Helm's Deep and Attack on Weathertop Currently, 9472 is available for shipping, but 9474 is only available for local pickup. Free shipping over $79 for Shop Your Way Members and code - KMART10PSAVINGS gets you 10% off. Total, with tax, I was able to get 9472 for $48.33 and 9474 for $104. Not the best deal in the world, but since these are EOL, definitely worth picking up. Good Luck! - Ed

Quick question, does anyone know where the L motor (the new one that comes in the 4x4 Crawler, 9398) is for sale? I can't find them anywhere vice in that set, or a couple make shift power functions kits. Thanks in advance!

So I'm considering joining FBA for the first time, reviewed their intro emails, etc. and am generally on board but had a question about sending packages to Amazon. They indicate I can choose between having Amazon label the items on receipt, or I can do it myself. Given that I am selling Lego and other toys, I am concerned that many buyers often prefer to receive the toys without any stickers, etc. Does Amazon attach a sticker to the package itself? If so I'd be tempted to send them in already labelled assuming I could bubble wrap the item and then attach the label to that. But would Amazon have issues with that? Just curious what the best practice is for you pros.

  25. Hi all! New to the forums here but a life long Lego fan. Long story short, I was helping my "Aunt" (she's really my cousin) pack up her house and came across a couple of boxes filled with NOS Lego System by Samsonite supplemental sets from 1961 in great condition. Her mother and father owned a toy store and this must've been left over stock that ended up in her storage for the last 60 years. Anyway, my Aunt asked me to sell them for her. So I have a large lot of complete boxes in mostly Very Good to Excellent shape (dare I say some of the boxes are Mint!) and I'm wondering the best approach to determine their value and to sell them. Part of the problem is that t…
