General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by president89,

Is anyone using their own Python webscraping to look for online deals? I was thinking of paying someone to build something for me. The paid versions I think are geared towards the developers making the most money possible, and not so much about you finding all the deals - plus they scrape so much so often, that they probably have to scrape less often than an individual would to keep them from getting banned. I would love to hear someone's thoughts or experiences. I'm also open to collaboration.

  2. I had an auction last week on ebay. I shipped it with USPS priority with signature confirmation last Wed. Today is Thursday, the package is in status "sorting complete" and was supposed to be delivered on Sept 30. It did not show any attempt delivery. If the USPS lost my package, what do I do? I did not buy any insurance but it came with a $50 insurance. The auction was for about $200. Do I need to refund the buyer if USPS lost my package? I contacted USPS but I have not heard back from them yet. in the future, should I always ship it with insurance and signature confirmation when over a certain amount? Thanks.

  5. Just looking for some advice on how to proceed. I have ~100 or so Lego sets, mostly from the 1990's, some more recent, that I'm looking to sell. They're used but all have the original instructions (almost all of which are in pristine condition)and all have their original boxes (though some are a little smushed/bent here and there from being stored in a big box for the last 15 years). The sets are either 100% complete or at most missing a few non-essential pieces (e.g. minifigs, specialty pieces, etc. are all there). I've stored them in chunks in their original boxes and I'm in the process of going through each set and noting what pieces, if any, are missing. How doe…

  6. So I ordered the new mini and the fedex tracking shows it was delivered yesterday. Says left at front door sig not required. I have not contacted lego or fedex yet. If it was stolen off my porch I don't think they are liable anyways. I can dispute the charge on my cc but that could get me banned from LEGO Shop at Home. Anyone dealt with this before? I have had dozens of legos shipped to the house. Seems unlikely that one small box got stolen but I guess it's possible. I live in a nice area in North Raleigh. If it was stolen do I have any options? I'll have everything shipped to my office from now on.

  7. So I had a question as I am trying to finish getting things together for Tax season. I went through my sales and everything and calculated it up. Its a little bit lower than Paypals 1099K number. However I know this is a gross amount which doesn't take out refunds, credits, etc. for all sorts of other stuff. How does everyone add these up? Is there a section in Paypal where you can see all the categories like How much you received in Chargebacks? Or Reversals etc.?

Hi there, i've been checking like sets in the days of avengers tower, first wave of jurassic world etc, in those days, and damn, those set have high resale value now. They is less seller on bricklink or other platform, less people who invest and it's profitable. Better then it was, still some turd of course, but in general, a 2 years old is really great. 2015 sets have done better than older one, (post 2012 maybe).,...

Simple question ... I’ve been away for a couple weeks, and now cannot find the Lot Price Calculator feature anymore. Did I miss something?

Newish to Lego (big thanks to the kids), and I was wondering what recentish sets have larger animals. Kids want to make a zoo. Thoughts so far are: Friends pets and line: plenty of little pets Prince of Persia had camels and ostriches Atlantis has plenty of underwater animals City theme w farm had some barnyard animals What am I missing that is probably obvious to you?

Not sure what to do. I listed a 31313 and someone from Pakistan bought it without using the GSP. I guess its alright since I can still use USPS. My problem is the buyer has 0 feedback. I made sure when I made the listing that it wouldnt sell to anyone with a negative feedback but that didn't stop this guy from buying it since he doesn't have any feedback Im assuming if I cancel it he might put negative feedback on me now. If it wasn't a $350 item and maybe a $50 item I wouldn't worry bout it to much. What would u do in this situation?

I have a question........Im the kind of invester who doesnt buy more than 2 or 3 of 1 set unless its dramatically reduced, so usually im buying bits of everything that i think will go up in price. Is this a good strategy?? Or should i be buying bulk amounts of 1 set? In the past month or 2 i have started buying just 2 of every set......And just sets that i like.......but i cant help but think that i should buy some sets in bulk??

  15. Kmart.com has a few items on sale, to include Helm's Deep and Attack on Weathertop Currently, 9472 is available for shipping, but 9474 is only available for local pickup. Free shipping over $79 for Shop Your Way Members and code - KMART10PSAVINGS gets you 10% off. Total, with tax, I was able to get 9472 for $48.33 and 9474 for $104. Not the best deal in the world, but since these are EOL, definitely worth picking up. Good Luck! - Ed

  16. Does Amazon always just charge a flat rate for everything? The shipping is always a LOT more than what they automatically charge the customer ($6.95 I think). How does everyone do it, just charge more for the product?

Hi there, I am looking for Lego resellers in US particularly tax free state (you lucky peeps). -I buy Legos in bulk particularly exclusive sets to ship to my country. -I will arrange courier to pickup so all you need to do is get the Lego sets on request, fill some form and package it nicely. -I make full payment before shipping so no worries on your side (although mutual trust will need to be established for first contact) If you are interested, please PM me for further discussion. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I have been slowly but successfully selling for a few years. With a new job and new baby this year though I don't have as much time as I'd like to list and pack sets. I'm thinking of finding a buyer for a bunch of sets at once. Where is the best place to post to see if any Brickpickers are interested? Thanks!

Hey All, I am recently getting back into the buying/ selling game. I came across a Lego collection that looks like a good opportunity. I would appreciate any thoughts. I haven't physically seen it yet and the seller only has a picture of what is included. Everything is stated to be used and complete. I will check if I get to see it, of course. The lot includes many of the Indiana Jones sets, Queen Anne ship, some older Star wars sets (Tie bomber, Older Sail barge) as well as the Eiffel Tower. The seller is thinking 1k for the sets and 500 for the tower. I know the tower used can go for 700. Without verifying the lot I was initially thinking 1k for…

We brought this up in another thread and realized that not many people probably know about this so I figured I would make a dedicated post for it. The usual fee for processing your transactions on PayPal is 2.9%. If you process more than $3000 per month you can apply for a lower rate of 2.5% and if you do more than $10,000 per month in sales you can get a 2.2% rate. The application for upgrading takes less than a minute. Here is some more info: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees

LEGO Shop at Home is unavailable, so I figure a major update to the site is coming... What's your take on it, will we be able to execute complicated tasks of sorting from high- to low-priced items this time around? :-)

  22. Just a random observation of something that's happened a few times now. Back in the summer I bought a whole bunch of the DC Super Heroes cheap sets on clearance and they sat on my shelves for months, unloved. Then yesterday one of the Wonder Woman dorm rooms sold, I raised the price $5, then another sold, raised the price $5, then the last one sold. Something similar happened around this time last year where I had 3 of the most recent pirate ships sit for months and then they all sold on the same weekend. Makes me wonder if some youtuber or mommy blogger somewhere suddenly posted a video review recommendation or something. I see that the price for the Wonder Woman dorm is…

The title says it all, a poll to see who likes Amazon or eBay better. Once you get done voting feel free to leave a story about the online store you chose..... or the one you didn't. I personally like Amazon.

This is for current sets, not anything close to EOL. I am curious, at what point do you pull the trigger and buy the set? For me, I normally don't see anything go lower than 20% (unless I find "special offers" - like Amazon signup bonus), so right now my trigger is 20% off MSRP. Should I be aiming for better price? (Assume this is mainly for large sets.. like modular building sets, UCS sets, etc, if this makes a difference)
