Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

My local walmart has some Ghost Trains that have been sitting on the shelf for ages. They are on clearance for 54 right now, which while not being a bad deal, isn't that much below amazon has gone to, when including tax. I am thinking about offering 40 each. Has this worked for anyone? Any advice?

  2. They bought my 7888 within a few hours of it being listed, then they ignored three emails and didn't pay until I opened a nonpaying bidder case, then they sent me an extremely fishy email and I googled their Ebay username after that and found that they have a habit of saying packages didn't arrive some people say "just use signature confirmation and they go away when you tell them who signed for it" and others are like "they went straight to paypal to chargeback the payment" so now i'm wondering if I should just cancel this sale and wait for a new buyer or go out of pocket for extra shipping coverage. seeing the way that buyers are treated by ebay though…

  3. I am considering ramping up my Bricklink selling efforts, but I am looking to get some advice first from some veterans before I take any serious plunges. Just wondering what some good strategies are, as well as what are the pitfalls to avoid. Thanks in advance!

  6. We all know how sets tend to spike in value really quickly right after EOL, especially if it goes out of stock at all the retailers at once. It is not uncommon to see sets double in value over this time, this is when many sellers take it upon themselves to go ahead and sell the set. I will use my winter village bakery as an example... Purchase Price - $47 Sale Price - $95 - it is was going for this amount 2 weeks after I made my purchase Ebay/paypal fees - $14 Shipping - $12 Final Profit - $22 This actually did pretty well on its own, I haven't actually sold mine yet since I am hoping it will go for much more later, here is the interesting thing though, even …

I'm aware that a lot of us have received battered boxes, missing parts or nothing at all. But... Has anyone ever got lucky and been positively blown away by what was sent to them? I ordered 5x 60014 Coast Guard Patrols from Amazon France and they sent me 5x 10226 Sopwith Camels instead! I don't want to complain as the British hate complaining but, the guy that ordered the Sopwith Camels might have done. I received the order a couple of months ago and only opened the sealed shipping box just now to organise my stock. This just never happens to me so I'll probably get run over by a bus tomorrow.

  8. We've discussed parting out a set for profit, and also about listing a set with the minifigures removed, but what about the opposite? My question may be more for builders than collectors but here goes. Have you ever bought a set for parts and only listed the minifigures to sell? On some sets I'm okay with having more than one of a character (Troopers, Soldiers, Knights, etcetera), but some have very unique ones (Mace Windu, Yoda, so on) that at best I'm okay with two. For the most part, I buy a lot of sets just for the parts. Characters are great but, as I said, I don't always need that many of certain characters. At the least I was thinking that if I wer…

  12. Dear fellow BP, I'd like to ask for your help please :-) I want to sell my LEGO 10188 Death Star (totally new unopened in its shipping box!) via ebay.com The problem is: Even though the item is located in the U.S. I have no clue about shipping there! (Because I'm from germany and have no clue about U.S. shipping ;-) ). I already googled and tried to compare but it just makes no sense to me whatsoever. But I'm sure there are people here who already have successfully sold and shipped their UCS Death Stars via ebay.com right? So please lend me a helping hand. What's the best way to ship it? What shoul I write in ebay and what price to select f…

I am having a weird problem printing labels through paypal. When I print a label, my printer uses 3 sheets of paper to print one label. The first sheet is blank, the second has the label, and the third sheet has a line printed at the bottom. Has anyone had any similar printing problems. This started happening several months ago. Any suggestions?

Me and my brother were at our parents place when we found out old lego. We opened the first and then nr 2 and at last nr 3. Then I looked at him and asked what he was doing at his free time the next 3 weeks. Today it is 5ish weeks since that day and we are more or less ready with our Castle, Pirates and Western sets. At first we didn't know really what to expect and now we have decided to sell it so that our children can get their own lego experience. We have 5-8 small sets (20-50 pieces) to go but they will be ready in a day or two

Hello, new guy here. I've been a lurker and I registered a while back but haven't really been active. I had luck with one set, Cloud Cuckoo. I parted it out and sold it (a single set) on eBay. My goal is to slowly (very slowly) turn $300-400 into a full-fledged business. How can I do this? I have full-time availability. Here are my questions: What is the research process for picking a set? That is, do I pick a random set and part it all out on paper, or is there a way to narrow down my selections first to say, 5 or 10 sets and do the math from there? How do I part out a set? My thinking is each minifig separately plus the set pieces. Maybe it'd be better to …

  17. I had an auction last week on ebay. I shipped it with USPS priority with signature confirmation last Wed. Today is Thursday, the package is in status "sorting complete" and was supposed to be delivered on Sept 30. It did not show any attempt delivery. If the USPS lost my package, what do I do? I did not buy any insurance but it came with a $50 insurance. The auction was for about $200. Do I need to refund the buyer if USPS lost my package? I contacted USPS but I have not heard back from them yet. in the future, should I always ship it with insurance and signature confirmation when over a certain amount? Thanks.

  18. So I guess everybody know's if you make over $20,000 and have over 200 Paypal Transactions Paypal sends you a w2 Statement to you and the IRS. When this started 2 years ago I called Paypal and asked them about Chargebacks, Chargebacks are when you buy something with your Paypal credit card and then you return it to say Target Etc and you get your money back, well thats a Chargeback and that count's toward you receiving money, Paypal told me it didn't count, but guess what it does count. So 2 years ago I got the w2 from Paypal saying I made $65,000 but had 210 Paypal Transactions, so this won't affect most people on here but if you sell alot keep that in mine. So if I buy …

  19. I been getting alot of questions on how I box up my Lego sets to be mailed. First thing I only use Bubble Wrap on maybe 5% of the sets I mail. I use that Brown and White Packaging paper that alot of companies use to ship stuff. I get mine from those GNC Vitamin stores, they throw boxes of it away. I put the Lego set in the box, then I take the paper and stuff it in between the Lego set and the box, then I put a few layers on top of the Lego set, then I take a Priority mail, Fedex box on top. and then close and tape the box up. Now I have mailed thousands of boxes this way, and none have ever got damaged, plus with this size box there is not enough room to use Bubble Wrap,…

  22. This has been nagging at me for a while and as Huskers mentioned in a post it should be started in it's own thread if the topic is going to be drawn out. If I owned a store and a customer was taking an item off the shelf and hiding it in the store so I wouldn't charge as much for it later I would consider that customer to intentionally trying to devalue a product I am trying to maximize profit on and essentially stealing from me. Would you find that customers behavior acceptable if it was your store? There are some people that would justify their actions and say that large retailers can afford to take the loss and it's a game to them. I don't see it tha…

This is my first holiday season as a seller. I have a few sets that I'd like to sell. Do prices rise around the holiday season? I have a friend who sells vintage video games and he said the prices soar when Amazon kicks the small timers off for the holiday season. What has your experience been? Thanks

  25. I received the email below from Amazon today. I'm sure those of you who sell on Amazon will also receive this email, but in case you somehow missed it, or were thinking about selling on Amazon, here it is. Bulletpoint #2 pretty much rules me out (I just don't sell that much), which is too bad, as I was planning on ramping up for the holidays on Amazon. I pretty much just have ebay and CL now. Hello from Amazon Services, To maintain a great customer experience this holiday season, we are announcing the holiday selling guidelines for the Toys & Games store. Effective November 18, 2014, only sellers who meet the following criteria will be eligible to se…
