General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by dibole,

How much should legos cost by the pound? Just plain 2 by 4 red bricks and stuff like that. nothing special.

  2. I just saw this on brickset.com and it seems pretty straight forward. Trade4cash will buy your new or used lego by the pound or piece. So it stands to reason that if you've bought some sets that wont return much via ebay or bricklink you could sell them here by the lb. Take for instance the recent "free" galaxy squad sets at TRU. The space swarmer was available for about $4 and weighs approximately .64 lbs. Short of bricklinking these sets it's not likely to return much. The current payout is $10.50 per lb, and brickset readers get an additional 10% by using promo code BRICKSET at checkout. They also state that they'll pay $6.00 a lb for "good" quality pieces, whic…

I have started watching ebay listings a little closer lately and I have noticed that there are some listings that are truly awful. I saw an incomplete Imperial Shuttle, only a month ago, go for just over $100. The picture was poor and the description was near non-existent. Just wondering what everyone thinks of this, I will try to find the link of the Imperial Shuttle.

After reading the comments on the purchase thread about the steals at Shopko, and finding myself in a town tonight with a store, I went to check it out. And I had my dad in tow for the senior discount. I could already taste the cash. Uruk Hai Army, $50. Hulk's heli -- wait, what? Uruk ..... Hai .... Army ..... $ .... 5.....0. Then I started noticing other sets priced accordingly. I cursed a few times and stomped out. I also said something like "more criminal than tru".

  5. I just bought this set for $13 at my local K-mart (the one me and BlackJack are ranting on about). It retails for $35, so for me it was an impulse buy. They have three left, should I pick up another one? With two more movies coming, and Christmas slowly closing in, I think that anything Hobbit related will do awesomely!!

So I just got into Lego as a hobby. I bought a 7965 MF factory sealed for $99 at my local WM. I noticed it's selling for upwards of $200 on eBay. I know you guys don't want to give away your trade secrets but I'd appreciate a little coaching on how to go about selling. Also talk me down off the cliff if you think i should hold the MF. I have experience selling various odds and ends on eBay. My plan would be to take the money i made and reinvest and rinse and repeat. :)

  7. So I know there are other threads floating around about this, but I was curious to get a current pulse check. My gf recently has been showing me the power of Microsoft Access and has built an internal database for her lab. The thing is incredibly powerful and I immediately wondered how well it would work with my lego inventory / collection. Cons of Access for me are 1) having to purchase Office Business and 2) not having a PC so either a) running windows on my mac or b) finding a cheap PC to start this on. My hesitancy is, that is a lot of financial and time investment though on a gamble with access. I currently use Excel to track a lot. I have personal co…

Hi all, I couldn't find a thread along these lines, so thought it would be worth starting a discussion. Have many of you run pop-up shops before? I've run a number at local LEGO shows/toy shows, and figured there may be a lot we can learn from each others experiences. I've gradually grown my main popup over 5 years, now running a ~8m frontage and two registers. We typically have 3 staff to run the space, and use Vend as our POS as it's fairly easy to upload by excel stock files and manage payments etc. I actually didn't manage to get any photos of my last big show, but here's some from a small show we did earlier last year and the year before. I've see…

  9. Came across this site through networking and such. Some very good deals that seem to good to be true. Seems like a statewide craigslist. any experiences with selling or buying? There are no fees for selling except for what paypal charges....anyone know about the traffic this site recieves?

So, I sold a set and it was supposed to be delivered on the 15th but I'm getting this "Status Not Updated" message. Do I have any reason to be worried? I appreciate any input, as I'm not terribly familiar with USPS's standard of service.

  11. So I am currently working on a blog article where I want to examine if selling sets together in pairs is really worth the effort and if you can really make more money this way. I have several pros and cons, but I want to get data from Ebay to give a good look at what happens in the selling world. What I need is some good examples of sets that are retired and sell well together. I thought of a few so far, but I want to get enough possibles so I can get enough data to make it applicable. I thought of these so far: POTC Queen Annes and Black Pearl HP Hogwarts Castle and Battle for Hogwarts What are some others?

My wife and I have been putting all of our sets together lately and building a giant 5x10 foot city display. We still have about 6 sets or so to put together and then we are going to be building our own creations to fill in the gaps. I have been looking on eBay for bulk Lego listings. It looks like they are usually around $10/pound. It seems a bit expensive. Does anyone know what is a good per pound price for bulk Lego pieces? Also does anyone know a good place to download instructions for custom buildings like the following ones? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-Corner-Cafe-Building-Instruction-10185-10182-10185-10197-10211-10218-10232-/251231411526?pt=Building_Toys_U…

So on Oct 31st I went crazy and ran to local Lego store to make the most of the 2x VIP points before it expired. I picked up a TB and SSD thinking their closest to EOL. Well after that I received in my email survey to let them know how they were doing and I put exceptional for everything because I didn't have any problems. I just recieved this email today. Thank you for visiting our Woodfield Mall LEGO

I am new to selling lego from Canada and was wonder how other Canadian Brickpickers do it. For things like polybags i'm using the bubble wrap envelopes and canada post. It's larger items that I worry about. Who do you use to ship larger items? How do you package the product? Where do you source the boxes? Thanks for any and all help.

I'm not sure if there is anything worthwhile since they really raised their prices in the last week (TRU watch out) but I thought I would post this for anyone interested. You can save $10 off $50 by using the code SPRING10 at checkout. This coupon code is good through March 30. If they have another sale that overlaps this then you may be able to find some good deals otherwise I'm not sure but happy hunting.

  19. Started by Quacs,

I am in the infancy stages of building an investment portfolio of Lego sets, and my wife asked me last night if I had a plan for selling these sets once I decide to sell. The obvious response was "Ebay", but then I started poking around the Amazon site, and noticed they had a program for sellers that sell fewer than 40 items in a month. The cost on the front page said ".99 + other seller costs". Can anyone tell me from experience what the other "seller costs" are, and how they compare to Ebay's seller costs?

Why would you insert a listing picture with the price sticker left on the set? EBay Link Is this smart? Dumb? Stupid? Too lazy? Makes no sense to me.

I apparently won the buy box overnight on 40121 Easter, and Amazon sold more than I had. Maybe the velocity was too fast for the inventory tracker to keep up. Does anyone have 2 copies that they would be willing to drop ship for me tomorrow for $30/ea.? Please PM me if you can help. Thx.

Just sold my first item on Ebay in awhile and I'm fairly certain that my prior settings were to ship to only lower 48, but the winner is from Hawaii. Just need someone to confirm what it seems that I'm reading is that Flat rate Boxes will ship to all 50 states for the same price? Want to prepare myself for an additional charge now rather in the morning staring at the postal worker. Thanks

You may have seen on TV or sometimes when you're surfing the web, ads for sites like QuiBids.com or Beezid.com. If not, then put simply these penny auction sites promote themselves as giving people the ability to bid on a brand new item straight from the manufacturer's warehouse and in the end the winner pays insanely little for said item, like say getting an iPad for $24. When that is very VERY far from the truth. The way how these sites work is every time you click on the bid button for an item, you bid one cent. There is no way to change your bid amount at all, this is set in stone. And for every penny you bid with, they charge 60 cents up to a dollar to your credit c…

For anyone who is interested I was forced by my wife to go to Tuesday Morning today and was shocked to see a bunch of Lone Ranger sets, Silver Mine was $39.99, also had Colby City, don't remember the price. They also had a bunch of small friends sets for $6.99 and an entire end cap of Hero Factory for 6.99. Not great pricing, but if you missed out on the Silver Mine or Colby City it's not that bad.
