I wonder if an EOL of the actual 'real thing' will be positive news for Camper Van 10220?

The camper will be gone in January 2014 after Christmas. That is my personal opinion. I also believe that the polybag is signaling this end. It is a great addition to the set

I hope it is - I have gotten really lucky with these and have grabbed three for less than $100 each. I really want more - just an awesome set.

3 for under $100 each is magic, not luck I've been watching this set for 8 months and I've only seen used ones for under a hundred. Pbbbbbt.

I don't personally see how this would be relevant, unless you have a buyer in Brazil who misses his long lost T2.  I hope big things for this set as well, and intend to invest heavily in it in September to pair up the big set with it's Polybag offspring.

It is a great set to build and display. It will do well after retirement as long as it retires soon.

And the result is that 2 out of 3 said the T1 Volkswagen camper van "might" retired at the end of this year
I think the camper retire soon will be reasonable because it have been stand for 2 years too

It'd be nice if indeed that's the outcome. The T1 is an aesthetically appealing set with marked details and the price point isn't bad. 

 

Of course, we can only speculate even with the inputs from store employees. If the rumored MINI Cooper set is in the pipeline then it may be more likely that the T1 will bow out of the spotlight.

Well, if it came from a store manager we should all be assured that it will happen.

Just ask Emazers if it is on the 2014 bulk order form...off the top of my head I don't think he mentioned it, but the top of my head is a notoriously sketchy place.

The 2014 Wholesale Order form does not list Exclusives or hard to find sets, just the sets you see in Target,Walmart, Toys R Us and not there Exclusives.

I wouldn't say that the 10220 is either exclusive or hard to find in the UK. All major retailers seem have plenty of them. I have 22 and will buy a lot more if they drop to my trigger price. Just a shame it's been made in bucket loads compared to the Beetle.

When you try to order one, you get a message that it'll *possibly* be back in stock in 5 weeks.

I have only seen it at the Lego Store or John Lewis in the UK. Always at full price. Which is why the UK Ebay price remains close to RRP on average. It not exclusive but I would say its Hard to Find - as I can't find it

At first, the expected delivery date was January 16th 2014 but now it should it be delivered by November 19th. So I guess they have received some more stock...

Thats weird, last time i was in the LEGO store i had several employees pushing me to buy the camper becuase it was retiring. I say it was weird because i never mentioned i was looking for what sets were retiring, i didnt really say anything just smiled and nodded my head. Its almost like they were trying to force the sale of it.

First, I don't think you should take the word of a LEGO employee that seriously. I think LEGO will probably continue the production of this set for a while longer, as it is a pretty cool set that has quite a bit of demand. I'm guessing Summer 2014.

2. I wish they would discount this in the US by 20%.  That has no bearing on EOL.

Do I know whether VW Camper is retiring?  No, but I don't think it is.  There's no indication from anywhere in the US that it's on its way out.

 

However, no one really knows so if you don't want to get caught without one, it sounds like now is the time to buy with those discounts.
