This ad has been floating around Austin's craiglist for a while. If I remember correctly didn't some guy on here from Houston say they needed to sell their whole collection and was asking for a good price to sell at? I thought that happened like 2 months ago. His list of sets were comparable to these.

Pretty sure this is that same collection that Quacs did an analysis of. But for whatever reason a couple sets were added...guess the guy was trying to sweeten the deal and decided to give up a couple personal sets.

so the retail on all of these is about $21K?  There's no way I'd pay $14K for that.  If he wants to sell such a huge lot he's got to drop it to about 50% off.  I'm in Houston, I have $14K, but I wouldn't waste my time and money on that!

All in all, the value of the each set is according to Brickpicker data. After looking at the lot, i do not think it is worth buying at all. There would be too much work put into selling a smaller lot or an individual set.

I also agree that it would not be worth the effort to try to sell the lot. There would be too much working trying to list the sets on eBay, taking pictures, and writing descriptions. If I had the money, I would pay $7,000 for it. Then I would try to most of the sets on eBay. But that price will probably never happen.

Somebody should buy this lot, build every last set, and then start a blog called "Cats Aren't My Kids, LEGO Sets Are" about how they now own hundreds of LEGO sets and the neighborhood kids stand on their front lawn and throw rocks at their windows.

I've said it before, but I still wish this guy would come back on here and discuss a bit more about what happened to him and review his set purchasing history. I think the cautionary tale he could provide would probably be useful for alot of the less experienced resellers. Seeing as how some people are reacting condescendingly though, it doesn't surprise me if he doesn't want to. 

 

I'm not a big believer in faith, spirituality, or the concept that things happen because a "God" or deity wanted them to - but for all we know this guy could be selling this stuff for the price he is because he has a child with a sudden emergent medical condition, he could've been laid off from a well-paying job, stuff happens. The general consensus is that the lot offered isn't worth the time and money investment, and while I agree and would not buy it either, there's probably pretty good reasons for why this guy has to do this, and comments like "he's hiding crappy sets in there to get rid of them lulz" are pretty one-dimensional. I don't see a problem with analyzing the set breakdown and determining which sets are duds, but comments like the quoted above don't contribute to the discussion. One day it could be one of us, forced to sell every set we own in a week because our son or daughter needed a sudden medical procedure that cost in excess of 50 or 100 grand. I doubt every set I've ever bought is going to be a complete winner, so I guess I should prepare for these kinds of comments and every beckon and turn.

He might have a great reason why he needs to sell these but if he immediately needs money, why did he buy more sets? Some of those LOTR sets were added later.  If I am in desperate need of money, I probably wouldn't continue to buy lego sets.
