Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit

Discussion for collecting and investing with LOTR & The Hobbit themed sets.

  1. Guest

I know this isn't an investing question, but I've scoured the internets and can't find the help I'm looking for. My son and I were building the Hobbit Laketown set 79013 but on step 3 in the first book (building the boat) we can't get the boat piece depicted on the right side of the page to fit on the base rectangle piece due to the stack of mostly gray bricks in the middle. They just don't fit up against it. There's no room for the pieces to snap together. Anyone else have this problem, or did we do something wrong? I've build tons of sets in my life, and this is the first time I've been stumped.

  2. This is not Lego related, but it is most definately related to the films. I stumbled across this amazing sculpture while browsing deviantart. It was created by Richard Hernandez (darkwax) and several other sculptors. I am truly at a loss for words and will simply just let it speak for itself.

  3. Seller has only one feedback bu tthey only live about an hour from me... I get to build some great sets without opening any of my NIB inventory! BP has the used value at about 200.00 so with free shipping not a bad deal. I thought this might be worth mentioning to anyone considering to buy the set: Rufus over at Eurobricks managed to pick a set up ahead of its July release (at LEGOLAND Deutschland) and has made a great pictorial review. Normally, I wouldn't waste your time with a review, but the pictures show some great angles and comparisons and the set hasn't been released yet so enjoy: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83553 It would be interesting what you guys think about the set after seeing some "real" pictures of it now.

Now this is an awesome display. So much detail, my only issue (being picky) is with the simple tan flooring which needs a bit more detail but it is a jaw dropping effort! http://www.flickr.com/photos/onelug/sets/72157627770924700/

First I wanted to put in in line 1 predictions but i believe that line 2 discussion deserves a special topic for discussion Below I will list the sets and prices for LOTR line 2 coming out in June(?) 79005 The Wizard Battle SRP: $12.99 Pieces: 113 Everyone will buy this set, or multiple so I do not see much use for it in the aftermarket, it looks more iconic and greater use for playset than Gandalf Arrives, but worse for display than a beautifully designed wagon from Gandalf. 79006 The Council of Elrond SRP: $29.99 Pieces: 243 I find this set a potential sleeper, allthough many will buy it, for the special colors of parts, but I think …

  9. Man, I forgot all about this bit from the original animated version by Rankin/Bass of The Return of the King, and then I ended up stumbling across it on youtube. This is one of those tunes that you'll find yourself humming at work! Ha ha. Where there's a whip, there's a way! - The Return of the King, 1980

Is it just me or do some of the 2013 sets look a bit half hearted. 79005 looks ok for a small set. But 79006 & 79007 look a bit small. The black gate has shrunk and from what I remember there were more than 4 people at the council of Elrond. The pirate ship looks cool though and not as much as I expected. I wonder which minifig is Peter Jackson

My son's and I sat down this last weekend to watch the 1st hobbit movie again in preparation for the new movie. Got me thinking about how strange it is that there is no official LEGO recreation of the Chief antagonist in any of the new Hobbit sets. My son (5) saw the dragon in 70403 and assumed this was Smaug. This set is now at the top of his Christmas list. Does anyone know if LEGO has plans to release a set or figure of Smaug? If not, should I be stocking up on 70403 considering with the target coupon and redcard this can be picked up for about 27 bucks before tax. Looks like the dragon alone is going for a pretty good price on Ebay. Anyone else pickin…

Hi, I have 1 mint Elrond figure left (still in sealed bag). Don't have much experience in minifigures, but for profit return purposes, is it worth keeping this, or selling on now. Also will value be affected by release of Council of Elrond set? (Cost me nothing, but don't know what potential is). Any advice?

I really wish they wouldnt put him in everyset, a little character variaty would be nice.

  14. Did anyone else notice this set sold out in the first few days it was available at the LEGO shop? Very strange I thought.

I just saw this tonight but it is the Tower of Orthanc at TRU. I thought it was going to be a Lego store exclusive. Heres the link. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23949316 It isn't available to purchase yet, but I find it interesting that TRU has it on their site.

  19. The Brick Fan just posted a news article on Lego holding a building contest for Lord of the Rings. In short, the objective is to build your favorite scene from the Lord of the Rings films with your father, take a picture and submit it to Lego's contest gallery here. Grand Prize (1): 19 inch tall brickbuilt model of Gandalf. Runner Up Prizes (10): An entire assortment of LotR sets signed by the designers. Note: You must be a member on the Lego website and the scene has to be from Lord of the Rings; not The Hobbit. You can still use pieces and characters from The Hobbit sets though.

I bought the Tower of Orthanc a few months ago and I was wondering, why didn't it come with a poster? All the time I've looked at the set online the picture of the box said "Poster inside!" but when mine came it didn't say that on the box and there was no poster included.
