Toys R Us

Talk about Toys R Us... Good or Bad

  1. Started by pickleboy,

Seemed interesting. I wonder if part of their strategy will be to lower some prices while increasing others (IE Retired sets...see SSD) They had some decent sales near Christmas. http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/toysrus-inc-outlines-tru-transformation-strategy/

I know you all hate TRU, but just saw that they are having a sale. First thing that caught my eye was 8043 for $159 with free shipping.

  3. When you go into Toys R Us to the Lego section it's like going to the Gentleman's Club. You are overwhelmed by the choice and selection. You drool and salivate. So many to choose from...you want them all! So much more than Walmart or Target or any where else (save a Lego Store). There are so many to choose from.......and all so beautiful. You make your choice(s) then head to the checkout aisle. Once at the register it's like coming home late and your wife (or GF) sees the lipstick on your collar then knees you in the groin.....several times. The prices at Toys R Us suck the wind right out of you like a genital hit. Even with a BOGHO the blow is barely softened.

Over the summer, 8-13% discount gift cards were pretty common. Sometimes hardly worth buying in advance - wait until you're in the store and figure out how much you'll spend, then buy on the app. The last few months, % discount has been pretty low, 1-3%, and sometimes none available. I see they're creeping back up now, 4-6% range, saw a few 10% yesterday. Anybody been tracking the Raise cards long enough to identify seasonality / cyclical trends? I don't need data, just looking for insights. Mostly curious if we'll get back to plentiful 10+% discount. They sure do stack nice with a 20% coupon and 10% CC.

  5. so... i was on the hunt for ***.I. Joe Kre-o figs and then got swooped up by some lego sets that i hadn't seen in my local TRU's.. hawthorne was the store that had alot of what i was looking for. BUT...what i didn't realize or know was that there is a caveat with shopping at hawthorne...they are an experimental "bump up" store where they actually charge more for EVERYTHING... so everything i had brought for purchase was marked up. i didn't understand why this was the case and immediately i was greeted by a super with a really bad attitude. i inquired about why the prices were different and i even produced a receipt from a different TRU displaying the differences in…

I am in Virginia from now until late next week. Went to a couple of TRU's tonight. They had all of the new City and Castle sets, and I was surprised to see that they already have the new LOTR sets. The LOTR Pirate Ship set is really cool looking. So is the new Coast Guard boat. Of course the prices were outrageous. I went to the one in Fair Lakes and it's one of the ones that has even extreme prices for TRU. The one in Manassas was a little better, but still the prices were outrageous. I did grab a couple of things on the BOGO but had a few TRU $5 off coupons so the price ended up being way below retail.

Its sold out and retiring soon at Lego - might be the last chance to pick one up. I think its a pretty decent bet on a mid level return set. May $30 in a year or two.

I found it interesting that TRU did not offer the B2G1F on Friends, Ninjago, and Technic, but they did offer it on Monster Fighters and Star Wars. Do you think this signifies a shift in the buying patterns of kids today? I know that the last few years the sales almost always excluded the Star Wars sets, and whatever was popular for that year. TRU wants to optimize their profits just like everyone else so I understand that, but why not Star Wars? Are sales declining for Star Wars, is it just a fluke, or possibly just an effort to reduce inventory? What do you think?

  13. Why is it so hard to find old lego "hard to find" sets at toysrus, while target, amazon and even toysrus.ca, have plenty in stock? any thoughts on this?

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/toys-r-us-coming-back-to-open-holiday-pop-up-shops-in-600-kroger-stores/ The article says its "toys from some of Toys R Us' former private labels, including Zone, Imaginarium, Journey Girls, Edu Science, You & Me, and Just Like Home". But Kroger already stocked Lego for the holidays, so it will be interesting to see if Kroger ups the amount they order this year.

I was planning on picking up some star wars Lego tonight and since I don't currently have the TRU cc I was going to open one tonight. my question is will I receive 15% off my purchase tonight for opening the card?

Does anyone have a complete list of TRU brown clearance sets? Someone mentioned the 3 in 1 super pack (66475) a few days ago as Having been missed - I checked today and my TRU had 2 of them on the shelf at $129.99 each. I checked the price and they came up $26 (I bought both). I assume that there are brown clearance sets sitting in a lot of stores not marked down. If someone could put together a list it would make it easier to scope out stores.

Just opened an online order box. Underneath the lego set were 2 coupons for 10$ GC with 40$ purchase. One good for November and one for December Almost missed it, be on the look out

Forgive me if I missed this but I haven't been too active on the board. I thought I read something that we can't use rewards points online for Lego? Am I completely misinformed? I am about to print out some points and was going to use them for a set. Please set me straight

Features a tour down the Lego isle at the 8 min mark. Anyone remember taking a slip of paper to buy your favorite NES game?

Saw the new Lone Ranger sets at TRU today. Of course they are marked well above MSRP. Constitution Train $119.99 Silver Mine $89.99 Both $20.00 above MSRP. Colby City Showdown was $79.99 I think. ($10 above) Stagecoach was $37.99 ($8 above) Comanche Camp was $24.99 ($5 above) Cavalry Builder was $16.99 ($4 above) And all of these are excluded from the $25 off $100 sale. Needless to say, but I did not purchase any!

  25. So I've had multiple orders now that were partially paid with GC's (remaining balance made up with the TRU MC) that TRU cancelled but have failed to reinstate the GC balances. Customer Non-Service gives me the same run-around about giving it 3 to 5 business days even through it has been weeks since the orders were cancelled. I'm basically making it my new policy to use a CC for 100% of any online purchase -- so I have the chargeback recourse if needed. It wouldn't be bad to suck up the losses as a cost of doing business, but based on the the number of cancellations recently, it's amounting to close to 5% of the Discounted GC savings. I'll save the GCs …
