February 28, 201411 yr Been lurking around some time, so time for a "hello everone" post. I am an AFOL collector, not investor just yet, in my mid 40s, looking to leave a lego legacy (no pun) to my son. I have kept most of my classic space sets and entered the dark ages in 1985, yet recently I saw the light again! In my part of the world "low prices" and "lego" are in the vast majority of cases two mutually exclusive notions, so bricklink, amazon and ebay are my main sources of happiness, since lego shop doesn't even deliver here. This means no VIP points, no clearance, no garage sails etc and therefore the lowest price I can get plus postage, approaches market launch price. (Even so it's cheaper than buying retail here). I focus on large, "blue chip" sets, and I like Modulars, LoTR, Hobbit, Castle, Technics and Star Wars sets. My latest purchases (today) were Diagon Alley for 165
March 1, 201411 yr Welcome! Classic space huh, how do you like them compared to the more "modern" space stuff. I'm around 10 years younger than you but I remember the space sets from the early 90's and to me many of them look cooler than anything new (like the monorail).
March 1, 201411 yr Greetings, fellow father. It's an awesome business to be collecting and selling Lego.
March 1, 201411 yr Author Welcome! Classic space huh, how do you like them compared to the more "modern" space stuff. I'm around 10 years younger than you but I remember the space sets from the early 90's and to me many of them look cooler than anything new (like the monorail). It is very difficult to answer the question impartially, due to the deeply embedded sentimental value the classic sets entail. To put it this way, I haven't bought a single space set after my dark ages, they fall into ninjago/chima/heroes category for me, ie completely outside my taste and more of a toy than a collectible item. As objectively as I can be, I still think classic space rules! Alpha Base anyone? Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :-)
