Akin to the "Musical Picks" topic, I want to hear what your all time favourite movies/television shows are. It can be anything from action to drama to sports to romance (who watches that anyway though?). I'll start off with a couple of my favs; I find most of the ones I put down are great films all together, but have shining endings.

 

Blood Diamond (Thriller/Drama): Leo DiCaprio picks up a sick south african accent in this eye-opening thriller/drama. Great music but if you're a Leo fan, you can probably already guess how it ends lol.

Friday Night Lights (Sports): I'm not a football guy, but the cinematography and story made this a refreshing change to the typical, predictable, sports movie. Plus, the instrumental music by Explosions in the Sky fits perfect (note: the trailer is crap, watch the film).

The Lord of The Rings Trilogy (Fantasy): If you are on a Lego forum where Lego LOTR products are frequently discussed, you probably already know how awesome the films are. If you don't, I'll leave it up to the mods to immediately revoke your membership to BrickPicker (jk).

 

And last I'll just end with my favourite TV show, which is probably going into its final season this year, The Mentalist (crime procedeural): this murder-a-episode series focuses on a former psychic who is now tracking the serial killer who murdered his family. The show can be light and funny, but when the serial killer ("red john") gets involved, it can get pretty unnerving. The series has spent 5 years tracking down murderers so feels a bit tired, but it is still my favourite. And, I'll post a trailer for the 3rd season finally:

Cartoons? Spongebob was one of my favorites as a kid, other than that I don't really favor anything in the "saturday morning cartoon" section.

I have dabbled with stop motion and considering how hard I found it, I have a lot of respect for animators.

Interesting. I've tried playing around with stopmotion myself and found that space and lighting are the biggest problems besides needing a decent camera.

It's funny how Tracy the gorilla was still the smartest of them all being a member of the original team from the live action series that came before the cartoon.

Here is my personal best cartoon of the 90s:

 

Batman: The Animated Series

One of the best depictions of Batman in any media.  Gotham was as dark as it should be.  Batman was smart, decisive, grim, and tough but yet fair.  The voice actings were superb and the musical scores helped build up the athmosphere.  The storyline was engaging and "grown up" oriented without being too complicated.

This was the show that introduced Harley Quinn to the world.  The character was so popular, the character was added to the mainstream Batman comics based on the show (usually it is the other way around)

This Batman was the base of the other DC animated shows that came after it (Justice League, Batman Beyond, etc)

I would rather watch this version of Batman than any other versions, real life or otherwise

 

The opening theme is so badass, it does not need to show the series title. Yet you know it is time for Batman

By the way, for the SW fans, Mark Hamill played the Joker in this series

Tigersharks and Thundercats were favorites of mine, along with GI Joe, He Man, Voltron, etc.

 

A couple of older school ones I like when I was a wee lad - Snorks, Shirt Tales, and the Get a Long Gang.  I also have a soft place in my heart for the Gummi Bears cartoon.

 

Disney after-school toons will not be forgotten, either.  Along with Duck Tales (mentioned previously), there were Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers and Tale Spin.

 

And Batman: The Animated Series was really good, too.

I been going to the movies since about 1957, now back then and up to the 80's most theaters just gave you a plain movie ticket, just like a raffle ticket, Not until the Lowe's, AMC, Regal and a few other major Movie Chains came around, there Ticket Stubbs had the Movie, date etc on it, Thats when I started Saving mine, and if the movie was in 3D I Put the ticket on the glasses with a Rubber Band I usually see about 100 or so movies a year. Alot of people think this is stupid and alot of people I told do it now, So you take your 7 year old son to see Superman in 3D, well save the glasses with the Movie Ticket and what other movies your kids see or what you see, and in 20-30 years or so will love looking at those old movie stubbs. If it sounds stupid and a waste of time well don't do it, plus you might have the 2 ticket stubbs of you and your girlfriend or wife of your first date or so, Plus I also have a wall Calendar for each year where I put where I saw the movie and rate it 1-4 Stars. As of now the Best 3D Movie is Avatar in IMAX, and if you ever get chance to see Friday The 13th Part in 3D at a Theater go see. There are only about 5 Theaters in the US that can show it the way it was in 1983. It has to be the old Theater, not the newer Theaters, so Check the picture below.   Ed

I don't do this (I don't go to the theatre as much as I would like), but it actually sounds like a smart and reflective hobby to remember the movies you've seen. So many people seem to just treat movies as "in the moment" events, but it's so much better to let them stay with you and get the underlying moral (and with the ratings you can remember whether its worth watching again if you forgot). Great hobby! What is the earliest stub in your collection?

My wife and I have kept all our ticket stubs since our first date 7 years ago. It's fun to take some time to look through them and reminisce. They serve almost like a timeline of our relationship. We also keep stubs from theme parks, sports events, conventions, etc. It's grown into a quite hefty collection lol.

Ed, I saw Avatar in 3D and it was the most incredible and stunning movie visually I've ever seen.  I actually saw it in a 3D IMAX and my head nearly exploded.  Absolutely jaw dropping...

 

I also saw Mission: Impossible 4 Ghost Protocol at a 3D IMAX and it was surprisingly entertaining.  I would recommend it.

Avatar in 3D Imax definitely ranks among my 5 favorite theater experiences.

Same as Wit. I wouldn't want to have one from another date back in the day and be like "hey remember that time at that movie in the back of the theater" and my wife all of a sudden slap me since it wasn't her. Memory fades a little more with age. haha

I rarely see movies in the theater but I did keep the ticket stubs for the movie (Transformers) I saw with my girlfriend on our first date. Awful film, but at least our relationship didn't turn out that bad. I think the stubs have a decent amount of sedimental value to us at this point.

I've kept some of my movie tickets, here and there. Mostly I keep them for the memory/person associated with the movie (like many of you). It's nice to look back and remember what your life was like from a different point in your life.
