I watched Hateful Eight. It just felt tired. The dialogue wasn't snappy, the violence was just splashy because people expect it out of his movies. They weren't shocking or interesting. None of the characters were charming. It all just felt like Tarantino wasn't thinking  or trying anymore.

I enjoy "Jackie Brown" immensely over H8 and many say that is his slowest movie.  I like the first act with the stagecoach, but yes, it was very tiresome after that.

I actually can't remember much if anything about Jackie brown. I know I saw it in the theater, but not much is coming back to me.

I finally watched Jurassic World over the weekend.  Now I get what all the fuss was about over the Raptor sets :) I actually enjoyed the movie, although the CGI wasn't the best in some scenes.

I might have to pick up some Raptors off Bricklink.  I sold all my sets too soon.

Well if it can't be original then at least make it entertaining. Wait a minute, aren't you an anime fan? Shouldn't you be used to "over-the-top" in general? :pleasantry:

Anime shows are over the top by definition, western should not be (IMHO).  Just because I like and expect one genre to be over the top, does not mean I cannot appreciate the different "feel" of other genre. :P

By definition, western probably shouldn't but still I think if done right then being a little over-the-top sometimes can be a good thing. Also helps if the crew behind the project just "gets it" as too often there are series or films where they didn't and the whole thing felt forced or simply off key. Since I'm ranting, it's the reason why I could not enjoy Moonbeam City even after sitting through the complete premiere season. Sure it had a look inspired by the unique Duran Duran album covers by Patrick Nagel and a musical score synthesized in a manner fitting for the decade yet everything else, between the awkward humor that didn't fit the timeframe meant to be emulated and difficult to like or relate to characters, fell flat. I guess me being a product of the era plus seeing substantially better fan films across YouTube in the end made the animated series a tall order to fill.... or I could just say they simply didn't "get it".

Anywho, the trailer for The Magnificent Seven looks good even if it is a teaser. I am not much for remakes but sometimes they do something right and surprise me in offering something new aside from clarity in picture quality & fancy special effects. Hopefully it will be a nice turn out yet perhaps not so great to where they will want to remake the three sequels that followed just as well.

I have a feeling I am not going to like this new smug Macgyver.  Also, we already watched that background story when it was called Iron Man

Don't we have enough "crime cracking team of rogues" shows already? Also here is another where the supporting character is more likeable and attention grabbing than the primary player. George Eads is great but not sure I can say the same for Lucas Till unfortunately burdened in trying to fill Richard Dean Anderson's shoes (and mullet).

I think I am going to give this ST movie thing 1 more try just because the trailer does not look like ST3: The Search for Spock :P

Not original ideas per se, since the alien look like Jem'Hadars and swarm of small sized ships destroying bigger fleet reminded me of the Founders.  But I am hoping in third movie the main crews are becoming  their own versions of the originals instead of cheap imitations.  Except for Simon Pegg who has brought his own spin on Scotty since movie 1.  See, I can say a nice thing about new movies 1&2 :P

Anyone watching the new version of Voltron that premiered on Netflix this month?

Digging it so far. I'm 3 episodes in. Lots of great nods to the original but they are putting their own spin on it which I'm really enjoying.

Cast is pretty good. There's someone from The Walking Dead playing one of the main characters, along with some veteran voice actors.

I was sort of interested by the premise of Vinyl ....however seeing how many "f-bombs" were dispersed so liberally in just the teaser killed whatever interest I had. I realize as adults we may have a tendency to swear yet at the same part being a grownup should require us to know well when such language even is needed in the first place. To me so much cussing feels unnecessary, reflects ignorance of the speaker and laziness on the writers.

Well I'm done with the soapbox. Anyone want it?

Anyone wanna tear apart Animal Kingdom? I'm enjoying that one now and it's also on its first season...

TNT, right? Their shows seem notorious for having really strong trailers, but ripe with disappointment when it comes to the actual show. That alien one with the ER dude and the Last Ship come to mind...

Yeah, TNT. I'm not familiar with that station other than Animal Kingdom...

I just watched the first episode with my kids.pretty fun watch. Made me want some Voltron toys like when I was a kid. Made me think of the Voltron MOC that was posted before.
