July 25, 201510 yr Decent day buying today....all items on great clearance prices! Couldn't pass on any of it -- did pass on all the FRIENDS series and elves stuff - don't know anything about - all 50% off. AT-AT, picked up 12. Some turtles, tons of Cantina's (18 total) and Batman joker steam roller sets (I think 28 total) and some other low end junk.
July 25, 201510 yr Picked up 4 Scooby-Doo Mystery Machines today. They had them sitting out on the shelf at Target and I thought... "Well those deserve a good home".

July 25, 201510 yr Cant find that stuff in my local walmarts. have looked and no frys around every Walmart is different and they all don't honor the same discounts. Until I got on this site I was always buying online and I asked why not just buy online and save gas -- but the 30%-50% off savings are huge, especially in large bulk like I buy -- so now im out searching stores - I buy and rent homes, so im out driving anyways and just stop in walmarts for deals - clearance section and lego rows...there is always something and I always ask if there is more in the back and if there is, I take ALL.
July 25, 201510 yr Didn't we collectively decide that TMNT was an investment flop.......someone didn't get that memo I guess?

July 26, 201510 yr Just got my hands on a used unboxed, no instructions vaders tie (8017) off ebay. Raining here so have gone a little ebay nuts and already spent most of this months pay packet.Question though: How much would getting a copy of the instructions add to this set if i eventually wanted to sell it. Is there much of a difference between a used set with no box and no instructions vs a used set with no box but with instructions? Given how easily available they are on the web now doesn't bother me too much but i think i would be willing to pay a small premium if a set came with the instructions. Any hardcore used set sellers got experience in this?

Any hardcore used set sellers got experience in this?Agreed. I would purchase the instructions. I had a used version of this set and needed the instructions as well. They were not that expensive, and will add some value to your set. I just did a quick bricklink search and they start at $2.25 plus shipping (in the USA). That's not too bad.
July 26, 201510 yr The box and instructions always add to the value of used sets. As the boxes get bigger it becomes more expensive to ship. I just trash them and don't sell them with the set. If it is a meet up sale and the buyer wants the box, then good. Otherwise it's just the set and instructions that will do.

Otherwise it's just the set and instructions that will do.In my opinion, I think it's good to save the box by removing the seals, and folding it flat, unless of course the box is completely trashed. Sets on ebay that are opened, but complete, and still have the box (if it's in good condition) and instructions are usually what many AFOL collectors want. I know if I buy an older retired set, that's what I usually go for. You can always sell the individual boxes on ebay, and they usually do sell. I have a large thick cardboard box filled with flattened lego boxes in my shed. Right now my son plays with these sets, but whose to say in the future he will want to keep all of them... Regardless, they do take up space, though.Of course, looks like you live in Hawaii, so that might be the reason behind your high shipping costs to those of us in the states.

How would you ship a deathstar box? Flat or not? You know the shipping cost for dimension alone? Imagine if you had the Lego pieces in there also. For me if its a loose set and if the box will dramatically increase the shipping price then out goes the box.

For me if its a loose set and if the box will dramatically increase the shipping price then out goes the box.I'm a bit anal about these things, but i'd break down the entire set, place all the parts in individual ziplock bags that i'd label the bags with a sharpie, so that when the person gets it, they have a set just like you'd get in a new set except with the stickers already applied, etc. Then tape up the box, and ship it like i'd do new sets. That's just how I do things. Not saying it's right, and yes it takes more time. But for a set like the Death Star, that could potentially make someone 300.00 from what they paid for, even it if it's used, but complete and in excellent condition, I think its worth doing it that way in the long run..
