COVID-19 / Coronavirus Discussion

Because we are a global community, I would like to create a thread for talking about the COVID-19 how this has impacted you.

I work for a smaller, Chinese-owned tool company. Our workforce after CNY and the extended break was only running at about 40%, of which this is actually on the higher side compared to what I've heard about other, much larger tech companies. While we haven't felt much of the impact here in the US, I am sure we will soon. The way that some companies flow in goods from overseas will really have an impact on store shelves; Stores like Walmart that have large DC's and reroute the flow and quantity of goods so that the shelves don't look as bare. Target specifically doesn't keep extra inventory outside of what it knows will sell in a specific amount of shelf-time and therefore bases reordering on that known formula. Given that orders from China are typically 30 days on a Boat just to arrive on the West Coast, and then separate amount of Customs and transport times to other places in the US, the effects will start to be apparent really soon.

Not trying to start a fear-mongering thread, but a place where we can talk about this like educated adults.

A lot of stuff out there right now and most of it is bull ****.  People on TV and on social media are capitalizing on the fear.  You have to sift thru the crap.

Its funny, what makes me worry is that its not being talked about on mainstream media. The male fertility issue and chronic lung damage info is nowhere but deep web forums and chinese sources. I know alot of times these sources can be bullshit, but many times they've proven true. Makes you wonder...

Even more reason to push for and research a vaccine as quickly as possible.

Earliest possible in 1,5 years if everything is running perfect.

My grandad used to joke( I assume) that in the field military received a single T.P. square, poked finger through, wiped ass with finger ,and then used square to wipe finger off.  It's taken some practice but I'm starting to get the hang of it!

Thought that was a german thing. Our ancestors als did that due to lack of toilettepaper in the field.

Dont let this first few steps downward fool you. The economy will be going down to the ground. We now are at the beginning of a worldwide recession if not a depression. Only strong economies will turn out alright in 3-4 years. This **** is hitting us a lot harder thann 2001/2008....

So, if everything goes as planned, the global society will be back at full health just in time to witness how the global economic system collapses - leading to thousands of deaths in the end through rising poverty, people losing their jobs and homes as well as health insurances and then becoming sick with no proper treatment. Hey wait ...

I look forward to reading this thread in a month or two.

Here in Australia , we have officially reached peak panicky idiot. RRP on these is $5.

By the way: Maybe someone could talk to those Chinese gourmets that have now brought us at least THREE nasty viruses because they seem to eat any animal that fits into their cooking pot? Maybe they could just stick to eating more normal, non-pandemic-suspicious stuff. I mean, wouldn't that help a lot concerning possible future virus threats?

I agree on the eating part. Disgusting.

I don't agree on blaming these people for this virus though. We don't now nothing about it. Maybe it was a Bioweapon, nobody can prove it wasn't. The US did some f***** up things to remain powerful, this may be the 197th f***** up thing they did.

Walmart (WMT), the largest retailer in America, said Saturday that it will will modify its store hours in response to the pandemic, while other retailers plan to temporarily close stores.
Beginning Sunday, all of Walmart's more than 4,700 US stores will be open from 6 am to 11 pm until further notice. The company said the shortened hours will help employees restock shelvesovernight and clean stores. Thousands of Walmart stores are already operating under shortened hours.

These were their original hours before the 24 hour craziness of business  Many stores used to be closed on Sundays too.  We will all be just fine without 24 hour stores.

This all started in a market where people come to buy live animals to have them slaughtered and taken to a restaurant/home for food.  Talking vendors keeping live cages of live bats/rats/chickens/pigs/boars/snakes/goats/god knows what else all stacked on top of each other. All along with anything imaginable dragged up from the depths, live seafood ready to be slaughtered. this is the origin. As scary as it seems this is the perfect environment for viruses to mutate and jump to humans(Zoonic Transfer) Its already proven this is a native(naturally occurring) strain. Many lead Virologist, pathologist, epidemiologist, etc all agree.  If it was planted created put in to place, etc as you claim, it could have been way more severe and rather than contained in moisture could have been actually air borne. think about that for a second.

I don't claim anything. Just saying that we don't know anyyything. If you trust the chinese government, good for you. I don't. So I'm generally sceptical about any 'official outbreak source'. It could be a bat soup or whatever they say. Or not. There is no way of knowing what happened. And to be brutally honest, I don't care about this stuff anymore. The world's a corrupt & brutal mess, we can't fix it.

Save this post and we all see who is correct...I agreed with you, Benjamin4172 CDC officials not suppose to say it this way it’s not promising at all...that’s why ppl panic buying

Visited couple stores today in LV everybody stocking up on TP and canned food, rice and water, sanitizers OOS. We don’t have many cases here and schools remain open, looks like ppl worried a little, most of stores full of goods, looks ok to me. Tourism will be hit hard anyway...

The way the media and some politicians describe it, the bubble is long evaporated, the earth split in halves, and we are barely on the lava core trying not to be burned alive

Nobody knows yet. Best guess seems to be middle of May or early June if you read the tea leaves.

Wet Markets

I love how china now begins to go back to work like nothing happened....its a pandemic, the Virus will most certainly come back and hit them again. Maybe were "lucky" and it will evolve to something else. Btw it already evolves-but thats just what Viruses do, does not mean it is getting worse automatically.

The economic breakdown of china will hit us in one or two months.

If your country has no heavy monetary answer to the economic cut that will happen due to corona a lot of middle class buisneses will go down.

The Population will be infected by 60-70% according to Experts like Drosten. Who btw invented the so called german test along with others. That particular test the whole world uses, except for the US who have their own beautiful test- oh wait. Because german standarts cant meet up with US standarts.

The goal is to slow the Virus down so the health care systems arent overrun by patients. So even if you arent in the group of people with higher risks you should help to slow the spreading down by just staying home and try not to attend unnecessary meetings.

And something just for my personal understanding...can anybody explain to me how 40 republicans voted no to a governmental helpprogram for US buisneses yesterday or the day before? Is this just because due to the conflict between Democrats and Republicans?

This. Plus there was little time for any debate.
