James Bond Villain Richard Kiel Dies at 74

Richard Kiel, the 7-foot-2 actor who most famously played the villainous Jaws in two James Bond films starring Roger Moore, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, and also appeared in Adam Sandler comedy Happy Gilmore, died Wednesday afternoon in a hospital in Fresno, Calif., three days shy of his 75th birthday.

TMZ first reported the news.

The actor had broken his leg earlier in the week, but it is not clear if that event is tied to his death.

Kiel had lent his voice to a James Bond videogame in 2003 but more recently had voiced Vlad for the animated film Tangled in 2010.

He may have played only a few roles in his lifetime but all made memorable by a man with such a great presence. I know he was always the first Bond henchman I recall first followed by Odd Job. Rest well.

RIP.  Wasn't Jaws the only male Bond villain who found true love and actually lived to enjoy it ?

One of my favourite old school villains.

 

Loved him in Happy Gilmore as well.  Sad day indeed.

I waited on him when I worked in downtown Atlanta about a dozen years ago - very reserved, polite, and kind.

Suddenly I have the urge to dust off the old N64 and start up a game of multiplayer Goldeneye...in the Complex. Of course, selecting Jaws as my character is only a tribute, bc any1 who has played this game knows that picking Jaws is suicide in multiplayer.

So many nights consumed by that game in college. Great memories!

Playing as Jaws is a terrible tactical decision, but an honorable one.
