Quark is a man of many 'businesses'. If its peace, his bar goes very good. If its war, his less legal side activities go well.

 

Perhaps we should the write the RoLA, some rules every investor here can benefit from

.. Or just watch Star Trek Deep Space 9 (DS9), available for free to Amazon Prime subscribers. One of the best scifi show ever. The show cleverly presented the different races (Ferengis, Cardassians, Bajorans, Klingons, the Founders, etc) as societies with their own unique rules and customs instead of as "race of the week" (exposed in 1 episode, forgotten in the next). It was well written too with episodes that managed to be distinct yet still part of the bigger continuity.

It did have its style and moments but came off too space soap opera for me. It is however my least favorite of the series' (next to Enterprise...but then again even Phase II: New Voyages is better than Enterprise). TOS all the way!

It was a good show until the dominion wars - those episodes (or story arcs) were boring.

Ex Astris, Scientia.

I gave you that once the Dominion War started, it limited the writing somewhat as most episodes had the war as main plot or subplot in some way. However, IMHO there were still variety of stories late season 6 and the beginning of 7 that the show did not become just about the war (even though that was the big thing threatening the whole Alpha quadrant at the time)

The point is that if you take one of those rules on their own (ie peace is good for business), the necessary implication is that the lack of peace (ie war) is not. To then have a statement that war is also good for business renders both rules null and void since neither peace nor war matters to business. They aren't rules any more. It's like saying chastity and promiscuousness are both good for business.

Enterprise on the other hand, tried to be both where they should have stuck with either formula. Come to think of it, the biggest flaw of ENT was it tried to please everybody instead of picking its own "personality".

Not necessarily true, just because 2 opposing action/inaction resulted in the same thing, does not mean they are automatically null and void.

Consider this:

1. Exercise is good for your health

2. Sleep is good for your health

Just because you cannot do both exercise and sleep at the same time, does not automatically mean both are null and void when presented as 2 rules back to back.

If only I could sleep exercise. ;)

There are numerous things that are good for your health and for business. Stating polar opposites is the key part.
