  3. Probably my most expensive LEGO set ATM... Won 2 EBay auctions for 10020s Santa Fe engines plus 2 or 3 cars. Had to spend significant money on BL to turn the double mail and observation cars into the missing sleeper and dining cars, but all in ended up just under $1600 (including shipping and tax) for the full train, including a bunch of expensive spare parts, spare manuals, and 3 working 9V train motors with clips still attached. One engine even has the light kit!

  8. Finally finished the Titanic just over 2 months off and on while building other sets in between to break up some of the monotony. No more missing pieces, so not bad only 2 that were wrongly swapped at the factory and replaced, out of over 9K elements. Although I did have a damaged 2x12 white plate that I replaced from my own inventory 46 numbered bags most with 2 and some with 3 bags per number. Four almost identical smoke stack sections with 7 bags each so 28 of the 46 bags are repetitive, and the portholes are brutal. When you finish the last smoke stack section for the rear of the ship which is the beginning of box 3 there is a notation in the instructions: “Stern & Well deck: the final section is the most complicated” and this is where the build really excels and probably why most have such good impressions of the overall build of the set. It is so good that it makes you forget about the misery you just went through. If you are doing a family build just grab box 3 as you will get the full effect of building the entire ship and feel sorry for whomever gets box 2. My ratings for this set which I purchased prior to the price increase: Build 8 Play 2 Display 9 Value 8

  11. Yesterday, after two years of house hunting on and off, nine offers made, at least 15+ houses seen, my family and I finally were the winning buyers for a new townhouse. Our first home and now the easy part's over. The fun part is figuring out how to pay for it! But man, what a crazy market!

  12. While technically not a buy, the next-door neighbor had an estate sale today, is moving and gave me a Lego storage container as a thank you for taking care of her lawn over the years. What looked like an ordinary container turned out to be quite the find after going through it. This is same neighbor who gave me a tote of her son’s old Lego that had a nearly complete 6991 Monorail Transport Base set in it with the instructions. I feel so fortunate and lucky.

  16. As I continue my break of buying for resale, I've come to realize that you can interconnect these bricks to create things. It's not just about the gold rush. Picked up a few custom figures to go along with the figures from the original TMNT wave.

  18. Congrats! It's one of the best feelings in the world. On a semi-related note, an update on my career change from corporate finance (20+ years) to becoming a real estate agent. I signed on with Keller Williams Advisors on 4/28, ratified my first buyer contract on 5/26, and closed on 6/16. Woohoo!! I'm super happy to get the first transaction under my belt.

  19. I've been pretty busy building quite a few sets since we've finally settled into the new place. Making up for the last few years of collecting sets but not wanting to build until we moved. Some are also sets my kids recently built as well as some of theirs from before the move. My son made me a really cool micro Mario for the SNES hidden level Easter egg.

  20. Congrats on your first home purchase! It's a great feeling. On a related note, I made a career change after 20+ years in the financial industry to go into real estate. I passed my license exam a month ago and shadowed my first open house yesterday. It's scary making a career change in my late forties, but I was never really happy in corporate finance. Trying to find something that I'll be happy doing for the remainder of my work life.

  21. Snow Whites Cottage. This one started off just like Winnie the Pooh lots of very small specialized elements to build up the structure, and piece count, instead of classic Lego bricks. Look at all the extra pieces. I did not apply the stickers to the beds and the piano but might go back and add them although not really necessary. I was not looking forward to the roof but it actually was an excellent build and really made the set more enjoyable. The Dwarfs all have 2 sided facial expressions but besides from Dopey’s molded ears are all rather generic with no arm or leg printing but perhaps accurate to the source. They should have included the parts necessary for them to sit at the table like they did in Rivendell. I would think there are lots of play opportunities in this set but it is very cramped. The figs and Disney tax make this set overpriced by $40 compared to the Blacksmith and A frame both larger and fully enclosed with similar piece counts. Build 8 Play 8 if you have tiny hands Display 7 Value 6

  24. Bought a huge lot of assorted vintage/current sets. Some were partially built, and the bulk are just in pieces. Have color sorted and arranged the bigger pieces by type... lots of work left but have managed to build these beauties so far, missing a few figures unfortunately. started out in 2 giant dusty tubs

  31. Returned to my hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan for Christmas and visited the public museum with family. They are host to a really stunning minifig scale moc of the city set approximately in the olden times. It's a bit of a mish-mash in order to include some notable buildings, of course. It's really well done.

  32. The Amazing Spider-Man. This set is AMAZING a 9 out of 10 build and display. I usually only build 2 bags an evening but with this set I couldn't wait to finish it as it was so enjoyable. If you can find it on sale for $160 or less I highly recommend it. It looks amazing and easily a top 10 build set of 2023.

  34. Finished this last night. This is a 10/10 build for me. Absolutely no repetition, great building techniques, and looks outstanding in person. The buildings were the best part to build. Each had its own unique build style. Hats off to the designer for this one. A homerun. Sorry for the bad picture, just snapped a quick one as I came in the office.

  35. Just Sharing a few builds I've done recently. My pops was Rather impressed with the flowers. Viking ship built in anticipation of the upcoming set. The Big Fig Was fun, was kind of a quick build though. Id like to see LEGO Do an ant man version. The Justifier has a couple build areas I didn't care for but I do like the ship overall. It Has a lot of big pieces also . I felt like they gave me a good amount of plastic for my Money(bought on discount). 3in1 castle was a nice build. It put me in the nostalgia zone while thinking of early castle love and the major improvements in LEGO builds over the years. Now bring on the cooler weather sales uptick!

  37. I got married for the first time almost 4 years ago. Little did we know that I would have a stoke 6 months later. If her daughter would not have been home and her office close to the house I would have died. So its very easy for me to say it was the best decision of my life. ......and she never lets me forget it.

  38. I got married right before I turned 26 and still knew I wasn't ready. Our first year or so was pretty rocky because I was still in work-golf-drink beer mode and she was ready to be a family. Edit: We just celebrated 20 years, so it's worked out.

  39. This set really looks amazing in person. Not sure if I would pay the new $300 for it now and if HP fans will desire it EOL but the Owl build and display is top tier. This is without the minifigs, and potion bottles.

  41. 1 sticker across multiple parts that is horrible or SC 3 stickers in a row that must be aligned near perfectly? In other news I finished Box 1 of 3 of Titanic which is approximately only 25% of the build, 12 bags. I made 3 mistakes, 2 minor that I fixed on the next step or 2, but one that required a thorough revisiting and deep thought, luckily not much rebuild though. I have become dependent on the iPad building app with the 3D rendering which takes all of the guess work out of the equation. Unfortunately, for this set only the PDF is available so I am using the paper instructions and figuring out where some of the elements go is not intuitive at times. So far only 2 missing elements that don’t interfere with the build. I might change up and build the Disney 100 Movie Camera and Disney Icons Villains sets between boxes to enjoy the voyage of the Titanic more. I have the Captain CMF ready to go for display.

  42. The best “Architecture” set I have ever built and probably even better if you are a HP fan and know all of the references. Lego really got it right with this form factor and I bet we will see more crossover sets from other themes in 2024.
