Do they always ship the sets by themselves without a shipping box? I have read a number of horrible stories here and wonder if there are any positive incidents. Bought 2 tower bridges with the current $40 GC promotion and certainly hope I don't learn the lesson the hard way. I mean, they cannot always be that retarded, can they?  

For people already returned their online purchase to store, if you purchase the set partially with gift card, did the store issue another GC along with credit card refund? 

No. The invoice already deduct the GC value from the original item. So say you are returning a HH you will refunded 149$ plus tax

If it was TRU, I know you lose the GC. Happened to me once. I w would assume it is the same @ walmart. Not sure

I think I remember someone saying they were given a full refund in cash instead of the gift card. I printed the return slip from Walmart.com for my crane and the price on there is not separated into credit card/gift card. I'm planning on returning it soon, I'll update what happens. That would be the one good thing that could come out of this if I didn't have to screw around with another gift card.

So my crane showed up today, unbelievable to me that a company would ship something like this. No box whatsoever, just bags and instructions thrown into a brown box.

Ive always had great packaging from Target and am patiently waiting for them to match BoxSmashMarts deal. What bad stories :-(

In terms of packing from the major retailers, this has been my experience. 

 

Amazon>Target>TRU>Walmart

 

But the good news is if any of them become damaged, you can always return them. 

Well I got a pair of GE today, perfect shape in the lego brown box. I wonder if it's a certain warehouse that has the poor shipping practices. I'm in NC and my wm orders all seem to come from NY.

that's odd. I live in baltimore and all my walmart orders come from Ohio. Ohio is closer to you and NY is closer to me. Who knows the logistics of this stuff. It's anyone's guess.

Walmart packing job for TB's which came today. UPS labels just slapped right on all the Lego boxes themselves. Appears to be retaped on the side after probably opening up from getting smashed...

 Just an update for those interested. Returned it to a B&M store and they refunded the whole purchase price to my credit card, including for the $30 gift card I used originally. The customer service lady said she wasn't even surprised at how it arrived based on some of the other things she had seen returned lately.

A week and a half ago i ordered a 42009 mobile crane on Walmart . It was 40 dollars off so why not? I got the lego a couple days ago and the lego did not come in a shipping box, they just shipped it as it. The lego box had  a giant whole in it so that you could reach both your hands in the box and take something out. It was absolutely horrendous. The worst part was that all the 42009's were sold out so i just returned for the amount i paid. I got my money back but lost a good deal and I will not be ordering stuff from Walmart anymore.

I think guys should go to their site to post reviews, and note that the low rating is for Walmart shipping and handling not for the set itself. That could catch their attention and warn future buyers.

Maybe we need to figure out where the poorly shipped sets are coming from.  In NJ, I have never received a poorly wrapped item from Walmart.  Only on one occasion did they send me a package without a shipping box, but the box was huge(non-LEGO), so I didn't expect a shipping box.

I am in Raleigh NC and all my walmart orders come boxed. I have gotten them in the lego shipping carton on several occasions ordering pairs of GE and tower bridges. I think the orders came from NJ but not sure, all my receipts are at my office. Will check Monday.

It's been a while but last order I did through Walmart, sent to Philly, was for Daily Bugle's and they were boxed together. No damage of any kind. Not sure where it was sent from though.

In defense of Walmart, I just received my two Grand Emporiums in a LEGO  shipping box.  That LEGO shipping box was in a larger Walmart box, filled with plastic bubble spacers.  A pretty good job IMO.

it is random and depends on your luck. More than a year ago, I purchased five fire brigade. Four came in cardboard box (two in each one). Surprisingly, one set came in original lego box (meaning there was no packing, Walmart just shipped out the lego set with label/sticker on it). Of course, the box was severely damaged. I returned the set and Walmart sent out the other one in proper packing.

 

So, what on earth were they thinking? I don't believe it was missed. It was done carelessly.

 

I also learned that if order online and pick up at store, they will tape the sticker with your name right on top of the lego box. There is no way to remove it without tearing the print off. I asked them why they needed to do that, the answer was they need to do that in order to make sure it was not misplaced.

 

So, I always hesitate to purchase from Walmart. And I think it depends on your luck too.
