New Feature: Similar Topics on New Posts

Recommended Posts

Reading some of the latest comments I added in a feature that will show you similar topics when you are posting.  This is just a trial run. Some may find it annoying, some may find it helpful. It can cut down on duplicate posts and help keep other topics going strong.  Lets try it out and see how it works.  Here is a video to show how it works.  After you type your topic title and move to the next form field, you should see the topic options come in.  If you see a topic that matches yours, don't create a new one, keep the other one alive.  I disabled this feature in the Introduce Yourself forum, since I know there will already be many similar types.  That is fine.

Why? Are you tired of the 30 different "who owns a Death Star" threads? :roadrage:

It looks like the feature only search for similar topics in the same sub-forum.

Example, this new topic was in minifigure section / subforum:

http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/3887-minifigs-dont-smile-anymoreeven-more-angry/#entry120425

While there is an existing one in the Odds&End subforum:

http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/3759-angry-lego-faces-a-sign-of-the-times/

If you go to Odds&Ends and start a new topic titled angry minifigs, the topic in the Minifiure section is not among the returned "Similar Topics". Vice versa if you try the same thing in Minifigure section.

I am not seeing that.  When I do a search for 10188, I see that its popping up in multiple forums.

Hmm I do not see it anymore either. Perhaps I was testing it exactly when the 2 angry face posts being merged together.

I merged the two a little bit after you mentioned them. I knew Darth Lego brought it up before but forgot where it was. Thanks for finding the links; it made my job much easier!
