fossilrock Posted July 3 Posted July 3 I'm sold on all these prequel era sets. I have the 2014 MTT and I really like that one, but this new version is just slick. Also, like the Clone Turbo Tank. I know the typical internet complainers are up in arms over the price and size, but I personally think this build looks a little sleaker than the version from 2016. I'll probably wait a year to buy it though, and wait till they hit 20 to 25% discounts at target/walmart/amazon before I pull the trigger on it. Also the Torrent, and the Slave 1 look good. Never had the original Jango Slave 1 from 2009, so this one will get added to the collection. Never got the Torrent from back then either, so looking forward to that set as well. Anyway, one of the best Star Wars summer waves in years, IMO. Quote

Owning the original Torrent set (bought it used earlier this year), the remake looks smaller, especially the wings and engines, and I like how the original had a design that easily opened to the attack/flying position using gravity via two technic shock absorbers. My plan is to wait for discounts on the new sets, though I admit my will is weak. Quote

fossilrock Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Supposedly there are two more Star Wars sets coming out this year. 1st one is a Death Star UCS/Master Builder set that contains over 9000 pieces and will retail at 999.99 2nd set is supposedly a 70.00 holiday themed set. Supposedly its a Darth Vader Tie Fighter in gingerbread colors, although i've also heard it's a gingerbread midi scale At-At, but no pictures of it yet to confirm either. Regardless, I want to rant about something. | RANT ON I am finding myself highly annoyed with a majority of lego youtube personalities. After the Death Star was announced, and some information about it was leaked, there was such a whine-fest throughout all the youtube channels. In fact, if you search "Lego Death Star 2025" - all the searches that come up are whinefests. You would think Lego killed their first borns or something, if you watch their videos. I find it highly annoying to even watch 99% of the channels on Youtube. All I want is the information on what's coming out without the whiney crybaby opinions that these so called "influencers" bring to their channels. Let me make my own opinion if I want to buy it or not, I'm not going to be influenced by some dude like M&R productions who obviously profiteers on being a whiney negative nancy 24-7. The dude hates every set that comes out, but he always has to review them, and own them. Why be so into something you hate so much? Get a new hobby. So many channels act like that guy now, and it's left a BIG void on youtube - I'm like Huey Freaking Lewis anymore, and I need a new drug - I want just a simple youtuber that just announces what is coming without giving me his whiney opinion on why it's horrible, and that lego is dead. Lego is not dead, they still make good sets, and they wow me about 3 to 4 times a year with sets. I dont need to be wowed by every set, but THE BEST PART IS NO PICTURE OF THE DEATH STAR SET HAS EVEN LEAKED YET, AND THESE GUYS HAVE ALL MADE UP THEIR OPINIONS! It's a total idiocracy on youtube anymore when it comes to people that have made their personalities about lego content. RANT OFF! 1 Quote

Drama sells clicks is the short answer, and part of the reason such extreme opinions of dismay have become popularized & normalized across YouTube. When the thumbnail and rant both come across as though somebody had just set their dog on fire, took a dump on the front porch, then pissed in the gas tank before dropping an eviction notice attached to a medical report saying they have cancer plus nine STDs with a bonus UTI, there is no critique to be found. All we have at the moment is a couple images of the included minifigures and some details on the build itself, yet these channels are making statements as if they have seen the complete package already. With so little to actually go on, I find their lack of faith ....boring. While here I am pondering what the heck an official on the shelf $1,000 LEGO set is going to look like. 4 Quote
weemsc54 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I don't agree that M&R hates every set that comes out. I'd say he has high expectations based on a long history with the hobby (now career). For example, when he says LEGO would've done a better job on these minifigures 10 years ago, that may be whining but it also matters considering the current value proposition is worse than 10 years ago and newer consumers lack that context. It isn't the best they are capable of (despite their lofty motto) while continually squeezing the YoY profits higher and higher. Jang remains the gold standard. Unfortunately LEGO is pricing (and pre-distributing) him out of many of their flagship sets - no way he spends $1000 (of his own money) on a Death Star at public release just to review it a month after all the pre-loaded LAN slop soaks up the views with pointless positivity. 1 Quote
Bricklectic Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I look to be entertained watching a lego review. Jang is like anesthesia for me. Instant sleep. MandR is cool and entertaining, in a space dominated by nerds. Not that hes not a nerd. But at least somewhat cool entertaining one. And whether hes biased towards more critical reviews or not. His takes are based on a deep knowledge of star wars and lego and definitely valid. 1 Quote
