Shortbus311 Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 I see LEGO is remaking the Grand Hotel set. The first one did exceptionally well. Hopefully this new one does too. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk Quote
supergman Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 First one was amazing. This one looks sad, but many new sets seem to be facades with so few pieces. But we shall see, I'm sure I'll buy some of these regardless. 1 Quote
exracer327 Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 My daughter has the original. This one pales by comparison. It's crazy that there are only 250 pieces less in this new grand hotel from the original but look at all those fall, spring, and snow related build pieces so you can change the season for the picnic area. But what "Grand Hotel" would actually have a picnic area? What a waste of parts. They should have called this "Country Hotel" or something similar. I bet it would sell better and give the minifigures (kids) an excuse for a road trip from the city. Quote
Alpinemaps Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Agree. In comparison, not nearly as grand. 1 Quote
JKW Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 I recently bought the original Grand Hotel at a yard sale, $75 still in original box with instructions. Used. I came home and immediately built it to make sure it was complete (it was!). And you’re right, the original set is grander than the remake. I’m kind of new to lego, and am wondering if this is true of all or most remakes. Taj Mahal for example. Quote
oneknightr Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Next question is how this will affect the original. It's a bad remake but it seems remakes, bad or good, has a negative impact on the original's value. I have a loose one that I bought two years ago that I've been meaning to rebuild to check for completeness. I may need to get to it sooner. Quote
cladner Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 only 13 sellers on the amazon listing, lowest price is $160 (60% over msrp), up 15% over the last 2 weeks. this set is doing the best so far of all the sets i follow from class of 2022. hard to believe not many hoarded this set given how incredible the last friends hotel did. hopefully the seller count can stay this low and there is no significant restocking. 2 Quote

One of the inherent advantages that many of us here have is that our knowledge of the secondary market doesn't start in 2019/2020 like so many of the new "investors" out there. I chuckled at a lot of the "common wisdom" that I saw so many expert-in-their-own-minds spout on Facebook groups and elsewhere over the last year. Like how the Walmart Black Friday brick boxes were quite possibly one of the dumbest things to buy because (a) there were no minifigures, (b) there is nothing "collectible" about them, (c) there were so many available on Black Friday, etc., etc....or that Duplo is a complete waste of time because it's just made for kids. I suspect that there are quite a few people who stocked up on Grand Hotel, but probably not as many as stocked up on Batwing, the Star Wars 3-set combo pack at Walmart, classic Batmobile, or any of the other of the handful of sets that all of the newbies were chasing this year. I went heavy on both the Grand Hotel and Shopping Mall as well as long list of sets that I never saw mentioned a single time by any of the newly-minted experts. 14 Quote
