PSA:

Per the seemingly informed LEGO CS rep I spoke with on the phone yesterday, the website is exhibiting all sorts of heretofore unseen behavior due to unanticipated load associated with record sales in the past few weeks... which explains many of the glitches as well as the lack of discounts, as far as I'm concerned. Turns out COVID ain't bad for those selling LEGO... only those buying, lol.

Nah... this happens every Christmas, every May...

Yeah, I think they are calling it an 'event' now and not a sale.  Pretty disappointing really...

It's the worse that I have ever seen.  When I think of the past, when they trotted out sets that we thought had retired for one, last hurrah and the list of items that used to go on sale...And the freebies.  This suck!  I did go ahead and finally purchase a Tantive IV but it was like a regular purchase for me, nothing special.

So order once on PC via home wifi, and again on phone after shutting off phone wifi?  Asking for a friend.

There's only one way around it....  get a friend with a different card/mailing address/internet IP.   Any other way, they find out.  Lots of banhammer back then...  THat hammer hasn't seemed to come back.... after the website reset.

It's hard to have an amazing, blowout My 4th sale when:

  • Stores are closed
  • Stock is low because of factory/employee concerns
  • International shipping is severely constrained
  • People are paying elevated prices just to have a lego set

I do agree that some sets are just plan out of stock.

Current conditions are not stopping other online retailers from discounting though.  If it wasn’t for online promos & store exclusive sets, I doubt many of us would I even visit their shop @  home web site .

Many backordered sets are being shipped.  While they might not be able to make new sets, they have a nice amount of stock likely.

I’m not buying it.  LEGO chooses NOT to discount. They actually think the Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Chanel authorized dealer pricing model applies to them.   Funny but sad.

And this is precisely why they don't even have to offer any incentives . Because even with no discounted offerings at all...you still purchased a $200 set from them.

I read a comment on Instagram for the new AT-AT that perfectly sums up the Lego community.

"It sucks that they increased the price... but that set looks awesome! Day 1 purchase for me."

Lego knows they can do whatever they want and people will still gobble up their products.

I definitely agree with you, and I am of the belief that in general LEGO needs resellers to help clear out stock at the rate that they are churning out new sets, but I doubt they care about us right now. I expect that their sales are still very good today without us going crazy. Grab some Episode 9 sets at 20% from Amazon or at RRP with a promo and points from LEGO? I expect plenty of parents are still going the LEGO Shop at Home route if they have gone that far. We'll see if anything goes to backorder by the 4th.

Still, its a middle finger to their customers to advertise a sale and then not have one.

On a "sort of deals" note, there is a LEGO brick Mother's Day card promo that goes live on May 4 with a $40 purchase - if Star Wars sets and the promotion stay in stock until then that at least sweetens the deal a little bit.

That might be true for some but i have been starting to buy less star wars lego. I used to get all sets released in a year but as they keep rehashing sets like the xwing and raising their price 10$ every year where they are at 90$ I am over getting them. Maybe I am in the minority but how many landspeeders do you need when they come out every 2 or 3 years and tweak a couple of parts? Millennium falcon #4 in 8 years i can just get the mini figures on brick link if i really need them which i don't.

I agree.  However, without the event, I would have ordered this set earlier as I don't have one.  I was saving it for this event in the hope that i might see something better than a weak giveaway and 2x points (that aren't worth near what they used to be.)

Explain to me how the VIP points aren't worth what they used to be... because I remember the VIP used to be $5 in rewards for every $100 you spent (5% basically). And now you get 650 points for every $100 you spend, which you can trade in for a $5 voucher. Seems exactly the same to me. But I have heard others say that they aren't worth what they used to be and I was just wondering if I was missing something.

From what the LEGO store mgr told me a while back, it's LEGO's idea of trying to equalize points between currencies.  Apparently there was a problem with people buying sets in one country to rack up more points.  But that theory only works if people in other countries are getting different amt of pts / $100 purchase in their respective countries.

How many pts does everyone else get?  USA is 650 / $100 US.  Is it the same for everyone else?

My local B&N store has treehouses in stock at $200. Is it worth the resale on eBay after everything is all said and done?

I did a curbside pickup of these, I think it's worth the gamble that they stay oos and I'm currently building one which is an amazing build.

I did my first LEGO curbside yesterday from Discovery.   Upgraded to a handheld card reader.  Filled the Sequoia so seemed like a success.

regular LEGO stores starting to reopen starting next Saturday.  No GWP's or new merchandise until Mexico is running again or they get stuff from EU was what they are saying.

Any ETA on Mexico? It could be good for online prices if the stores start having empty shelves.

P.S. I don't understand why every restaurant and store in the world won't start doing remote pay...like Venmo or Paypal. Just let me pay from my car and grab the stuff.

They can't afford the cut in profit that those services take. And/or the "legality" of using the free payment systems for goods/services
