Building LEGO

Talk about the builds you have done. Were they fun, difficult, do you recommend it? Please share!!!

  1. So I'm about to finally start building out my lego city and I just realized that SAH has limits on the train tracks and road plates... I guess the expectation is that you need to get more at a physical location or another retailer. Seems odd to me, but what do I know... either way it got me thinking if there are cheaper ways of getting these items outside of the traditional boxed items at a 20% discount or so? Is pick-a-brick route a viable/cheaper way, other options? Before I invest too much time and $ in this stuff figured I'd check what others have experienced... thx!

Had this set next day aired to my studio so that I could get it shot and edited as soon as possible. Enjoy.

  8. Why the spoiler tag you ask? Well, let us just say like many of Citizen Bricks' other products, this too is rather 'adult' in material. Don't get weird though; it's still Lego for Pete's sake. Besides it's hilarious and check out those dollar bills! This should be right at home next to the Breaking Bad meth lab. I practically forgot the website link for purchase. Sorry about that.

Check out this neat custom set. It comes with a little more than 500 parts and three minifigures; all with printing. Only $250! Site link. Hmm, now I just need to page good buddy, Grolim....

  10. Over at Classic-Castle is the beginning of new contest titled "Castle goes to Space". If I am properly understanding the terms correctly, the core concept is to take an officially released set either Space related (Star Wars, Alien Conquest, Futuron, etcetera) and transform it into a Castle themed one or from the Castle side (Knights Kingdom, Vikings, Ninja, The Hobbit, so on) and turn it into a Space type design. (In short, Castle -> Space or Space -> Castle.) Here is a good example from a prior contest where the entry had 'Castlefied' set 7749 Echo Base from Star Wars. I suspect some ideas have better possibilities in making the transition from one era to the …

As of today, April 7th 2018, the original Space theme by LEGO hits the four Earthen decades mark. For many it was what brought us into the building block fold with their band of galactic explorers. Although the theme has not truly been continued in any official capacity outside of a few nods and promos, the classic legacy treks ever onward through the fans' creations with what is generally called as Neo Space. You can find a number of such various MOCs in the thread linked for all the classic Space teams. Classic Space @ 40 by justin_m_winn

  13. Yup. Thanks to various Craigslist purchases made this year I've had to tear-down way more sets than I've built. Like um... probably 40 sets torn down to 4 built. I feel much shame.... The other confession is that I like it. I do it while watching Netflix and there's something oddly satisfying about it. And I'm a wee bit anal about it too. I follow the instructions in reverse and create the same bag layout to make it feel like the set is new for whoever builds it next (hopefully me). Plus it helps me identify any missing or incorrect pieces that I need to bricklink. The next step will be to switch from hand-writing the bag numbers to using a label maker. :-…

Technic 42009 is a wonderful set. Many Technic fans think it may be the best Technic set ever (opinion). Lots of things that can be done to it. I bought several a few years ago, and out of them produced a version of the Liebherr 1500 8.1. Recently I took it out and played with it and was able to make it lift a heavier version of the 8070 supercar (my own modifications of it). That is one thing I love about Technic; models can replicate the real thing and actually function at least similar to the real thing (in this case, replicating the "Y" guy arrangement allowed it to lift much more that without the "Y" guy arrangement). Again, just like the real thing. Perhaps n…

  16. so i went to the 2014 Designer Con a couple of weeks ago and SURPRISINGLY found a brand new SERIES 1 case at the Brick Nerd booth... $10.00 per bag... sadly (even though they said no one picked through the case) there were NO ZOMBIES so i walked across the way and found Citizen Brick who offer custom tampo'd bricks and minifigured parts that are AWESOME! different variations of zombie heads, torsos etc. also they have a lot of adult & mature themed minifigures lol like scarface, sex slave gimp, biker dude in leather chaps and bikini gals.... lol too hilarious... check out my vid for a review of their booth and some of the awesome items they have…

Hey folks, Maybe someone on here can help me with this.... How well can LEGO be dated using the various markings on the bottom of pieces? Do markings like Pat Pend., Pat Pend. (obscured), etc. fall within very specific dates? Would some vintage sets have had a mixture of both markings in the same set for instance? Also, is the there a timeline anywhere which outlines when sets went from using old production pieces or markings, to newer production? Like, since when have the current types of brick (thinner sides, different type of plastic etc) and plates been in use? Or is there anywhere where I can find this kind of info? …

This is one of my simple but fun projects that I have my wife for Valentine's Day. Our last name starts with a B. All lego and it has two 5x5 (actually are 5.5x5.5) plaques from Shutterfly in it. Yes I superglued it (almost a sin I know). Found the lego minifigure bodies to match what we were wearing and our son. Then had heads 3D printed.

A collection of stories about a world supported by four elephants standing atop a giant turtle filled with all sorts of characters including Death (Not death with a little "d" but Death with a big "D" as in the person.) were written with such wit and humor, there is no doubt as to why these tales amuse and inspire so many. Though the storyline may progress no further and the author sorely missed, Sir Terry Pratchett's fable will never be forgotten.
