"In the fall of 2008, CUUSOO SYSTEM and the LEGO Group teamed up to launch the LEGO CUUSOO crowdsourcing experiment. Initially, the site was only available in Japanese. But the promising results from the pilot led to the launch of the international LEGO CUUSOO beta site in the fall of 2011. Today, the LEGO Group is very happy to announce that the partnership with CUUSOO SYSTEM, has been such a success that we have decided to integrate the CUUSOO concept more closely into the LEGO experience called LEGO Ideas. We are grateful for the many years of collaboration and experimentation between our two companies and wish CUUSOO SYSTEM continued success, building CUUSOO as an open crowdsourcing platform for brands to connect with their fans on cuusoo.com."

There are a few changes - one being that a project has only a year to reach 10K supporters.  Another drastic change is that now TFOLs ages 13-18 will be able to submit projects (Yay for the TFOLs!)  However, they will only be reviewed if they have the signature of a parent or guardian.

The change will take place on April 30, 2014.  Read all about it here.

I like that TFOLs are now able to submit their projects. I'm now considering making my own project.

Me too.  I currently have two outstanding projects floating around in my head.

If this is the case and the ghostbusters is the last branded cuusoo product, i will buy them by the case as soon as they come out. I never buy new stuff but that will be a must in large quantity.

With only a single year given for reaching full support on any project, I hope Lego learns to promote this site better than the other. Piles of good to great original concepts that barely saw the light of day compared to the endless drones of yet another licensed property. Course it would help if people clicked the support button instead of just browse. So you come across a project which is less than 100% perfect; support it anyway. Lego will/could make the idea better through the inevitable redesign process and someone sees their dream of something they designed being released as an official Lego set be realized.

Does anyone know when the winter review results will be in and if it will be affected by these new chain of events?

I have a feeling Lego has looked at the sales behind the delorean, Minecraft, etc. and has thought "hmm maybe this thing is working better than we thought".

I would say with the Lego name right on it, its going to be getting more attention for sure.

Pretty cool, especially letting the teens in on it. Some enterprising youngster is going to put himself through college on the proceeds of his project!

Sounds like a great idea. Better get started soon!

  • 3 weeks later...

LEGO just sent out an official email to members saying CUUSOO beta has ended and LEGO IDEAS is up.

If the CUUSOO logo is removed from all the existing (still available) CUUSOO sets for the further production, maybe 'the original' CUUSOO sets will appreciate even higher? :D Not to say the rover...  :money:
