I think it is an official release. The set might be a European set because they sometimes do not have the number of pieces in the box.

I have noticed USA boxes have a bunch of numbers on the front whereas the European boxes has almost nothing on the box. Someone had returned a Lego a relative had gotten them from Denmark and it was interesting to compare the two boxes.

This set is in Australia, so no doubt from European stock.  Having never seen one on the shelf in a shop I wanted to make sure it was legitimate before purchasing from a private collector.  First time I have seen a set here that has no pieces listed so was a bit concerned.

European sets don't put the piece count on the front of any of the boxes.

And to answer the question about value, the box art like that will make very little to no difference at all.

It won't matter at all. People don't care.
I sell both versions and the only issue I have ever had with the box data was when Lego actually printed the incorrect piece count on a Pet Shop box.

Has anyone done any building to extend Tower Bridge out to its full span? The real bridge has a further 2 shorter towers, beyond the span built in the standard set. I have another TB that i was trying to part out, but i've become distracted by the idea of extending the existing bridge.

Is it time for Tower Bridge and Sopwith camel to retire as both of these sets show out of stock and expected ship date is 20 feb at lego.com..same happened with B-wing when it finally went out of stock and then retired

Possibly, but if I were to guess, I`d say we have till at least the end of the year for these. The ship date is determined by when the warehouses get the items in stock and are capable of shipping to the buyers. Just means their current availability is low, but more are on the way. We never know when a set will retire for sure, only Lego knows that, so it is possibly to be on the way out, but I wouldn`t expect it this soon. 

I believe that once lego is back up to stock at retailers and the new yound of exclusives are out and available we will be seeing some retirements. Once the ability to back order is gone that is a pretty good sign. If you want them now is the time, may as well take advantage of the current deals.

They are holding back production on these so they can spend more time collecting butt loads of money from the LEGO movie.

thamka for the update even though this is not the us i am very confident it is finished. Available purchase of 99 has preceded almost all of the eol sets in the last 6 months. I am now using my walmart gc to get my last 4 of these that i need. That will put me at 20. Have you noticed 99 of purchase quanitity on ssd, sopwith camel, vw camper, death star? Thanks

interesting. both are still available in my local lego store when i checked last week. just can't stomach paying canadian retail for the TB even though it was the one set that i really wanted when i got back into lego.

I think in March/April...i will finally buy the Tower Bridge (and Grand Emporium).  Don't want to miss out on it and regret it like Fire Brigade.  TB will be the most expensive single purchase so far for me but I think it's a cool set and will appreciate well after EOL, whenever that is.  Depending on budget, I would love to get 2x TB and GE stashed nicely in the closet - geez that's $1000 right there  

 

If you had $600, what will be a better investment for 2-3yrs time frame (assuming both sets might retire this yr or next around the same time), 2 TB or 3 GE?  I have a feeling GE might win that the 2-3yr 'race' but TB might come out on top in a marathon.

I'd spend the $600 on VW Campers as they appear to be running out at retailers (but, Lego still have them... for now) which tells me that EOL may not be long.  It's also a superb set and has been selling on eBay for over RRP for a while.  Remember how well the VW Beetle did?

Good point.  So many sets so little funds   Have to be extra selective I guess.  I have 2 Campers...instead of getting a few more, the collector in me wants to use the funds to check off Tower Bridge and Grand Emporium first so I don't have to scramble later.  The Sopwith doesn't interest me too much so it's probably a set I won't have. 

I believe the sopwith is done. The sopwith also has many unique pieces. All those silver bricks are you ot in other sets. I think it's a two hundred set within a year of retirement. It's been 150 on amazon when it's been out of stock

There are a few out there - this was the only one I could find with a quick search.  Eurobricks is usually good for that stuff.
