I agree with you. Great concept and packaging- underwhelming final build. I understand them not going Tumbler-style on this one, but a little more flavor would have been nice. They nailed it with the Ecto.

I do like it as an investment; purchased my five for holding last week.

I think this set is about the only one that looks better still in the box.Think I'll go for 6 of this one for inventory. It might surprise after all.

In austria u cant buy it anymore  in the local lego stores an online its also sold out - u can only buy it for 70

Depends on you. I build Ecto-1 a week ago and reviewed both. Building Ecto-1 showed how flawed Delorean really is for me. I think noone can predict that set will be a winner or not. It will go up somewhat in value but there are much better (safer) deals out there. I have 6 in my inventory now and I tend to keep them for a year or 2.

not in US. its still around and i am thinking they will be around for another year ... they came out in august 2013.. so i am expecting them to be around till 2015 august...

I agree the ecto-1 was a lot better build and to me looks better. I'll probly get more of them than the delorian.

Plausible indeed if you look at the 6680. But rich7779 (hate numbers) is NL so for him it's probably done

Every store in my hood that carries it has a shelf full. I have 2, which is probably 1 too many going by the build reviews on this set. But I'll make my own opinion on it when I pair it with my town hall, after I get around to putting that one together.

I have only one. Just in case if a friend wants it.

There are safer (as neosphinx said) investments to do IMHO.

IMHO this is a hideously inaccurate set that I'll not be adding to my collection. However, it's a good indicator of how other similar sets will perform post EOL. If this does remotely well, Ecto-1 will go through the roof and even give hope to the vastly over-produced Exo-Suit. 21103 doesn't interest me for any other reason.

I second that, 21103 looks like a refurbed cut and shut, ecto-1 is much better

So I finally built mine and I see how people are disappointed.

Still I think it's a nice set, though it has A LOT of things that need to be improved.

I mean seriously, I don't even get my Doc Brown Minifig into the car... it just does not fit... or maybe I've just been too stupid with my 5 tries I don't know... The roof just seems to be a little bit to low... or the door gets into the way... (or rather the head gets into the way of the door...).

 

But okay... I got mine and thus I can modify it as much as I like ;-) (Or even build another one and use the cool parts that I really need).

Reading about the designer (30years working for LEGO!!!) I'm always wondering: Okay so why isn't he actually improving the original design but impairs it?

(Or as we say in German: "verschlimmbessern")

 

I guess the answer is obvious: The designers must design the sets for a specific price range rather than bring them to perfection.

At least that's my thinking.
