Ideas #007: 21109 - Exo-Suit

Today, New Elementary announced that the LEGO CUUSOO Exo Suit will be released in August of 2014! They also announced a logo. Unfortunately, there are no official images yet, but at least this gives us something to be looking forward to!

  • I am both on and off topic in adding a few thoughts for those people that are upset.   Guess what?  I got 30 RI's and 16 Exo's. Guess what else?  I am not a big time reseller.

  • They will either both be back, or neither will be.  Or one will be back and one will not.  Or both will be back briefly and then discontinued again.  Or Exo will be and not RI or vice versa.  There wi

I agree and I'm going to test the UK ban hammer! I think the green minifigs are superb.

Note to self - get a few asap before TabbyBoy forces up the OOS signs at Lego lol   :help:

I'll be looking only to get 50 of them. I regret not buying more rovers

If these are only sold at lego how will people get so any of them?

Great question.

Same way people got 100 rovers. I managed 21 but didn't want to buy higher

I know where you can get 3 cheap ;)

Your definition of "cheap" is very different from mine.

I'm going to try to shoot for five.  Not a lot, compared to what other guys are getting, but I do not want to put all my limited eggs in one basket.  I have no doubt that this set will be a huge winner.  The AFOL community has been waiting for a revival of classic space ever since it retired, and because AFOLs are the ones who make the secondary LEGO market possible, that will make this set a nice sturdy investment.

Being a huge fan of classic space and mechs myself, at least one will be opened to display.  If I get enough, I will open a second one, sell the minifigures, and keep the Exo-suit so that both Pete and Yve can both sit in an Exo-suit and the turtle will have another turtle buddy to keep him company.

you must try harder

By Jove!  That's a lot of rovers!

You have to remember he paid double for a lot of those. Which might work out for this set, but you certainly shouldn't get used to doing that.

LEGO Ideas just published a new blog post with details on how the Exo Suit was made with some behind-the-scenes material!  It's pretty interesting.

Nice blog.  I am actually partial to either blue or the white turtle, although the metallic grey is a better match colorwise for the exosuit

not enough yellow to be blacktron 1

And the "inverted tri-force" symbol is missing. :P

and those hoses should be ribbed and yellow with black ends

So, who had the correct Classic spaceman classification?

According to the Lego Ideas blog post,
Mark told us that each of the original colors of Classic Space minifigures had a specific job: white for pilots, red for soldiers/explorers, yellow for scientists, blue for commanders and black for spies.

But according to Brickipedia, whose source is supposed to be the creator, Jens Nygaard Knudsen:
Blue = soldiers/security personnel (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_Classic_Spaceman)

Was Benny a commander or a soldier?

The beauty of the classic space line was that there wasn't any real story or predefined roles...it was up to the child to create their own universe. The sets simply served as a support to the imagination.

As a kid I equated it to the classic Star Trek. Yellow was command, blue were sciences, and red was engineering. White was usually support and black were commanders due to there relative rareity. Going from the promotional videos I inferred that the new greens are some kind of SAR (search and rescue) or salvage.

But in the end it is up to the imagination. The universe is yours to create...

My mecha are patiently waiting

Wonder how fast they sell out. I think the Rover lasted around 7 hours the day it was released.

I wonder how many orders I can do before they ban me

Both were showing limited in the catalog right?

I haven't seen them in the catalog, but there isn't any mention of them being limited on LEGO Shop at Home, yet.

Brickset.com has both sets, Exo Suit and the Research Institute, at a limited retail. I think that both the sets will follow the path of the rover. Available for a number of hours on the release day, and OOS until retirement.
